Do you want to make a difference? If so you may be about to read about your ideal career! The dairy industry is a core part of British life, bringing products to every fridge in the UK. Manufacturing has moved with the times and is now highly automated with high levels of new technology. You could be at the cusp of joining a course where you will make a real difference through the decisions you make on a daily basis Read on to see whether this apprenticeship opportunity is for you. 1

What is Eden Engineering? Eden Engineering is a ground breaking dairy maintenance apprenticeship driven by the whole dairy industry to provide an Advanced Apprenticeship for maintenance technicians and engineers with the aim of producing world-class staff for tomorrow s dairy industry. The complexity of automation used in factories has increased. There are challenges to be met to maintain skills to ensure equipment is working at optimum levels. This is both in terms of knowledge of the equipment itself and the practical skills to maintain and repair. Highly skilled engineers and technicians are required who can maximise the benefits of new technology and introduce innovation and know-how in their companies. They will require a sound foundation in all aspects of the engineering technology of dairy production and manufacturing as well as highly developed personal competencies. People who acquire these responsibilities will be able to forge a successful and rewarding career in the dairy industry. The overall Engineering Advanced Apprenticeship programme will be delivered by Midland Group Training Services Limited [MGTS] in partnership with Reaseheath College.. The Maintenance Advanced Apprenticeship will provide comprehensive dairy training over a four year period. Initial education and training in Dairy Technology will be provided at Reaseheath College comprising a seven week programme. During this period apprentices will be introduced to dairy theory, science and practical skills. You will have access to the latest technology in a purpose built dairy 2

training facility equipped with the latest machinery, dairy technology and software control systems. Appointed by the Dairy companies as the curriculum lead for Engineering, MGTS specialises in maintenance skills development and delivering Advanced Apprenticeships in Engineering. MGTS will lead on the delivery of Engineering Technical Modules, further education and workplace assessments. This will involve you spending time at the MGTS centre on a phased programme of learning. MGTS is a leading provider in this filed achieving Ofsted Outstanding status. Mission, Vision and Values Eden Engineering is all about instilling critically important values in its apprentices and getting them to live and breathe dairy. We believe that adopting these values will create successful engineers in the future Our key Eden Engineering values are: Passion and Pride Pioneering Attitude Integrity and Respect Shared Learning and Community Spirit Person Specification Eden Engineering is looking for people who are passionate about the dairy industry. You will be able to demonstrate a desire to learn and have good literacy, numeracy and communication skills. You must be well motivated and willing to challenge the status quo. With a future focus you must be able to demonstrate your passion and drive for the dairy industry. An Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering Maintenance is a Level 3 qualification so you will need to demonstrate a good general level of education with English Language, Mathematics and Science levels equivalent to GCSE grades A to C. 3

If you have experience in the dairy industry but have been out of education for some time, or have a non-standard academic background, your application will be considered on an individual basis. What is an Engineering Maintenance Advanced Apprenticeship? Engineering has perhaps the longest tradition of any occupational area of using apprenticeship frameworks as a means of providing high quality work-based training leading to skilled status. The need to remain on the cutting edge of technology is reflected in the Advanced Apprenticeship training arrangements. Engineering National Occupational Standards drive the process from which National Vocational Qualifications and Technical Certificates are structured. The Engineering Maintenance Advanced Apprenticeship comprises a range of qualifications. These qualifications are structured to cover the following: Competence based elements Knowledge based elements Functional Skills / Personal Learning and Thinking Skills [PLTS] Level 2 Employment Rights and Responsibilities Engineering Maintenance Advanced Apprenticeships are designed to achieve nationally recognised standard of workplace performance [NVQ]. The knowledge element will be delivered in a classroom environment designed to ensure that you achieve BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Engineering. Assessment is linked to modules which require the successful completion of a range of subject assignments. The acquisition of technical maintenance skills and practical competencies has been integrated within phases of off-the-job training throughout the apprenticeship. 4

The transfer of knowledge and skills to the workplace will be independently assessed working towards the achievement of National Vocational Qualification Level 3 in Engineering Maintenance [Engineering Systems]. The development of literacy and numeracy is integrated throughout the programme. This aspect forms part of functional skills at Level 2 which is assessed through examination. Integrating technical study and work-based learning allows apprentices to get ahead in their chosen career. This means that you will be learning hands on and the theory of Dairy Technology whilst working towards developing maintenance skills and knowledge working in teams, solving problems working with the latest process technology. What s in it for me? Earn while you learn and come away with a world class qualification. You will earn a competitive salary with no student loans to pay back after graduation! Once qualified, you will have skills that are in short supply in the dairy industry. You will have the opportunity to develop networks with other dairy maintenance engineers and be able to share best practice with your apprentice colleagues. On completion of your apprenticeship you will be able to qualify for membership of the Institute of Technician Engineers. 5

Course Structure and Overview You will attend a centre for learning for 24 weeks in year 1 supplemented by additional periods of training for 12, 6 and 5 weeks. The programme is structured around the delivery of technical modules. These modules will be delivered during four phases of residential learning as follows: 1 Dairy Technology and Processing 2 First Line Routine Maintenance 3 Maintenance Best Practice 4 Mechanical Maintenance Skills 5 Producing Replacement Components 6 Materials Science 7 Stainless Steel Fabrication 8 Fluid Power Systems 9 Electrical Maintenance 10 17 th Edition Institute of Electrical Engineers Regulations 11 Control Systems 12 Instrumentation 13 Servos and Variable Speed Drives 14 Services and Utilities 15 Fluid and Thermodynamics Start Date Phase 1 Phase 2 Phase 3 Phase 4 16 Engineering Mathematics Duration 24 weeks 12 weeks 6 weeks 5 weeks 6

When you are not attending residential learning, you will be following a structured work-based programme with your employer. We will work closely with your employer to ensure that you apply your learning and skills developed to the workplace. 7

Culture Do you have a real desire to have a future in the dairy industry? The Eden Engineering team are committed to providing a world class education and training programme, where you live and breathe dairy. Your learning centre studies will be complimented with comprehensive support from your employer with a dedicated mentor to support your learning and training whilst in the workplace. Your mentor will work closely with the Eden Engineering team to ensure what you learn is further developed while you work. You will be encouraged to keep close contact with your fellow apprentices so that you maintain the links and mutual support which develop as part of an apprentice team. Eden Engineering is all about developing Engineering Maintenance Apprentices who will take on the following cultural beliefs and attitudes. Progressive Professional Flexible Contemporary Partnership Focused Collaborative Future Focused Dynamic Work Hard Play Hard Committed to Excellence Are you ready for the challenge? 8

Career Progression The Engineering Maintenance Advanced Apprenticeship comprising off and on-thejob training will equip you for the very best career within the dairy industry. As one of a group of apprentices with skills and knowledge covering wide aspects of the dairy industry, there will be opportunities for future development and progression. Regular updates with your employer will ensure that both you and your employer will work together to develop your career. Whatever your ambitions, you can be assured that you will have had four years of world class dairy education, off-the-job and on-the-job training and be able to meet the challenges and lead the field in dairy technology both in the UK and world-wide. 9
