SECTION 08110 HOLLOW METAL DOORS AND FRAMES PART 1 - GENERAL 1.01 SCOPE: A. Summary of Work: The CONTRACTOR shall provide steel doors, frames, and related items, complete and operable, in accordance with the Contract Documents. B. Related Work Specified Elsewhere: 1. SECTION 09900, Protective Coatings 1.02 APPLICABLE STANDARDS AND PUBLICATIONS: The edition of the publications of the organizations listed below in effect at the time of the advertisement for bids form a part of this specification to the extent referenced. See the various paragraphs for the specified standard. Submit as specified in SECTION 01300. B. Include literature and Shop Drawings which contain the following information: 1. MANUFACTURER s specifications and details: a. Enumerated anchorage illustrations indicating anchor for the wall condition for each type required. b. Enumerated door and frame elevations. 2. Warranties: Statement of MANUFACTURER s standard conditional warranty. 3. Schedule all hollow metal doors and frames in the format described in SDI-111D or similar: a. Doors and/or frames shall be entered in numerical order. b. Format shall include headings for entry of illustrations, elevations, details, gauges, frame depths, and any remarks indicating compliance to special requirements. Where applicable, all such entries shall correspond accurately to the enumerations of the Shop Drawings. 4. MANUFACTURER s instructions and recommendations for handling and storage. 5. Calculations by a Professional Engineer licensed in the State of Florida for any proposed modification of the door header, jambs, or sill. 6. Shop Drawings: Detailed, dimensioned Shop Drawings shall be submitted to the DISTRICT and approved before fabrication, shipment, or WORK specified under this SECTION begins. 7. Product Approval: Submit Florida Product Approval or Miami-Dade Notice of Acceptance (NOA) documentation for use in a High Velocity Hurricane Zone, meeting small and large missile impact requirements. 1.04 QUALIFICATIONS: A. This is a performance specification. Acceptable products are those which comply with the acceptance criteria and recommended standards of the above Applicable Standards, and which satisfy the performance requirements specified in PART 2, PRODUCTS and as indicated. B. All materials furnished shall be new and suitable for the conditions of service to which they will be subject, and equal to the best of their respective classes. Workmanship shall be of the highest quality and shall be carried out by competent and experienced workmen. 1.05 WARRANTY: A. The MANUFACTURER shall warrant the EQUIPMENT, MATERIALS and PRODUCTS specified in this SECTION against defective materials and workmanship with the MANUFACTURER s standard warranty, but for no less than one (1) year from the date of Substantial Completion, and as described in Article 13 of Section 00700, General Terms and Conditions. B. The CONTRACTOR shall warrant the WORK against defects for one (1) year from the date of Substantial Completion and as described in Article 13 of Section 00700, General Terms and Conditions. Spec. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.01 GENERAL: A. Doors, frames, and all related components shall conform to their respective applicable standards as specified in APPLICABLE STANDARDS AND PUBLICATIONS. B. Assembly Tolerances: 1. Maximum Allowable Clearances: a. Door edge and frame rabbet surfaces, all sides: 1/8 inch (3.2 mm). b. Push side door rim and frame stop surfaces, all sides: 1/16 inch (1.6 mm) c. Standard undercut of doors relative to the bottoms of the matching jambs shall be either 5/8 inch (15.9 mm) or 3/4 inch (18 mm). Thresholds are specified in the hardware sets to be either 1/2-inch or 5/8-inch rise, depending on the standard undercut of the doors to be provided. Where such thresholds are specified, the maximum clearance is 1/8-inch (3.2 mm) to the top of threshold. 2. Manufacturing tolerances for all nominal dimensions shall be as prescribed in SDI-117. C. Finish: Surfaces of all hollow metal items shall be cleaned, and given one (1) shop coat of inorganic zinc primer as specified in SECTION 09900. Note specific instructions pertaining to finish touch-up of shop modifications and welding procedures. D. Hardware Preparations: Provide all hollow metal items with the necessary cutouts and reinforcements for the approved hardware. Reinforcement types, gauges and locations shall meet minimum requirements of ANSI A151.1 and the applicable DHI standards. Exact locations of mortise preparations may vary in accordance with MANUFACTURER s regular procedure. Conform to specific location requirements as indicated. Reinforcements concealed in frames and doors for surface-applied hardware such as rim exit devices, closers, surface-bolts, and coordinators shall be of the standard recommended types; suspected omissions or deviations may subject materials to destructive inspection. E. Fire Rating and Labeling: Doors and frames indicated as fire-rated shall bear a UL label indicating the type of rating for which certified. F. The nominal design pressure rating specified in the Florida Product Approval or Miami-Dade NOA shall exceed the nominal design pressure shown on the Drawings for the applicable pressure zones. 2.02 FRAMES: A. Provide frames for doors as indicated. All parts, reinforcements, and components shall be made of steel, unless otherwise indicated. B. Provide one-piece double-rabbet profiles with 2-inch faces, bullet-resistant to UL 752, Level 4, with 1/2-inch returns, and 5/8-inch stops, and depth as shown on the architectural drawings. C. Provide frames set-up, tabs welded (full backweld acceptable), face joints continuously surface welded, faces ground smooth and spot primed. Where welded material is galvanized, spot coat welded areas with zinc-rich coating (cold galvanize) before priming. Tack weld and filler at face welds is not acceptable procedure. Provide temporary spreader bars welded or screwed between feet, forming square units. D. Provide door silencers as required for all door openings utilizing hollow metal frames supplied under this SECTION. Silencers and frame preparations shall be punch type. E. Anchors: 1. Provide all frames equipped for appropriate opening anchorage. 2. Provide frames with MANUFACTURER s standard anchors of types suited to the wall construction and label condition, welded in place where applicable. Anchor types fulfilling the required function and satisfying labeling requirements with respect to the individual listings of the frames are acceptable. Spec. 3. Frames shall be attached as specified in the approved submitted documentation. Anchors shall be spaced in a manner corresponding as closely as practicable to the elevations of the hinge locations, but in no case at variance with listing procedure requirements where applicable. 4. Mortar Guards: Where frames are to be grouted full in installation, provide jambs with hardware mortise preparation covers to prevent mortar from occluding the mortises. 5. Masonry anchors shall be galvanized. 6. Frames shall be cast in place with building. F. All finished WORK shall be strong and rigid, neat in appearance, square, true and free of defects, warp or buckle. 2.03 DOORS: A. Provide 1-3/4-inch thick heavy-duty, steel doors, bullet-resistant to UL 752, Level 4, in the size indicated. B. Doors shall have seamless face sheets with continuously and fully welded seam edges. C. Core Construction: Structural specifications for each type given in SDI 100 shall be taken as minimum acceptable for the type. Core construction shall be such as to afford a nominal apparent U-factor insulation rating for the door of not more than 0.1, polyurethane. Internal vertical stiffener type construction, face sheets welded, shall be used where required by MANUFACTURER s recommendations or listings. Fire rated doors shall be solid or fiber mineral core doors as required to meet code and Reference Standard requirements. D. Doors shall have flush closed tops. Invert channel top doors may be closed by galvanized steel caps, screws tack-welded, and seams completely filled and ground smooth so as to be continuously joined. All exposed surfaces of the modification shall be thoroughly shop primed. Vinyl top caps are not acceptable. E. Transom Panels: Transom panels shall be provided where indicated and shall be of the same construction as doors. F. Louvers: Louvers for steel doors shall be of the welded type of construction of size and location as shown on Drawings. G. Glazed Openings: Glazed openings in doors shall be of sizes indicated, provided with mitered metal stops. Glazed openings in fire rated doors shall meet UL requirements. Glass shall be in accordance with SECTION 08800. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.01 DELIVERY AND STORAGE: Conform to MANUFACTURER s printed instructions for handling and storage of materials. 3.02 INSTALLATION: A. Conform to SDI 105. B. For concrete wall erection, back coat frames with fibered emulsion asphaltic coating immediately prior to casting frames into building. C. Set frames accurately in position, plumb, square, and true, and securely braced. D. Install anchors checking frame positioning and alignment. Space loose anchors in a manner corresponding as closely as practicable to the elevations of the hinge locations. E. After completion of wall construction, remove temporary braces and spreader bars, leaving surfaces smooth and undamaged. F. See SECTION 08700 for door installation. 3.03 ADJUSTMENTS AND CLEANING: A. Remove dirt and excess sealants, lubricants, and glazing compounds from exposed surfaces. B. Touch-up marred or abraded surfaces with same type coating and to match original coating. C. Putty repair of dents is not acceptable. D. Protect completed installation. SECTION 08700 FINISH HARDWARE AND ACCESSORIES PART 1 - GENERAL 1.01 SCOPE: A. Summary of Work: The WORK of this SECTION shall consist of furnishing all labor, materials, and equipment necessary for the installation of finish hardware as shown on the Drawings and specified herein. B. Related Work Specified Elsewhere: 1. SECTION 01300 - Submittals 2. SECTION 05550 Fabricated Metalwork and Castings 3. SECTION 08110 - Hollow Metal Doors and Frames 1.02 APPLICABLE STANDARDS AND PUBLICATIONS: A. Standards or Codes: The edition of the publications of the organizations listed below in effect at the time of the advertisement for bids form a part of this specification to the extent referenced. See the various paragraphs for the specified standard. In the case of a conflict between the requirements of this SECTION and those of the listed document, the requirements of this SECTION shall prevail. 1. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) 1.03 SUBMITTALS: A. Submit as specified in SECTION 01300. B. Hardware Schedule: Before ordering hardware, prepare and submit for review hardware schedule covering all items required for the entire job. Schedule to identify MANUFACTURER of each item and shall give the type number and finish symbols. Acceptance of hardware schedule shall not relieve CONTRACTOR from furnishing all necessary hardware. C. Product Data and Catalog Cuts: Submit catalog cuts or properly identified catalogs for review on each different item of hardware. Spec. Standard: 07/30/13 08700-1 Revision: 02/06/14

D. Templates: Furnish suitable templates, together with finish hardware schedules to CONTRACTOR, for distribution to necessary trades. E. Furnish three sets of operating and maintenance manuals for all hardware furnished under this SECTION. F. Upon completion of Project submit written warranty from MANUFACTURERs certifying that all materials will be free from defects for a period of one (1) year from final acceptance of this Project. G. Samples: Submit samples as requested of any items of hardware for final review. H. Submit keying schedule as directed by the DISTRICT. 1.04 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING: A. Properly package and mark items according to accepted hardware schedule, complete with necessary screws and accessories, instructions and installation templates for spotting mortizing tools. The CONTRACTOR shall check deliveries against accepted list and provide receipt for them, after which he is responsible for storage and care. Any shortage or damaged goods shall be made good without cost to the DISTRICT. B. Store in dry protected space on dunnage until installed. C. No hardware shall be installed until operations causing dampness have been completed. D. No keys, other than Construction keys and/or temporary keys are to be packed in boxes with locks. E. At final completion, hardware shall be left clean and free from disfigurement and paint to the satisfaction of the DISTRICT. F. At completion of the Project check job to determine proper application of hardware according to accepted schedule. 1.05 COORDINATION: A. Coordinate all requirements of the Contract Documents for items that affect the WORK of this SECTION with related trades. Furnish hardware supplier copies of reviewed Shop Drawings for WORK of other trades requiring lock cylinders and hardware preparation. 1.06 WARRANTY: A. The MANUFACTURER shall warrant the EQUIPMENT, MATERIALS, and PRODUCTS specified in this SECTION against defective materials and workmanship with the MANUFACTURER s standard warranty, but for no less than one (1) year from the date of Substantial Completion, and as described in Article 13 of Section 00700, General Terms and Conditions. B. The CONTRACTOR shall warrant the WORK against defects for one (1) year from the date of Substantial Completion and as described in Article 13 of Section 00700, General Terms and Conditions. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.01 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: A. Hardware supplier shall verify the suitability and adaptability of all items specified in relation to all details and surrounding conditions. The DISTRICT's attention shall be directed to any item that is not shown and to any typographical or other error so that corrections may be made before hardware schedule is written for submission. B. Furnish permanent lock cylinders and keys directly to the DISTRICT. Spec. Standard: 07/30/13 08700-2 Revision: 02/06/14

C. Items not specifically listed, but incidental to, or required for completion of the Project shall be provided and shall conform in class, quality and type as required for the intended use or as specified in like and similar location. Provide all fastenings and all necessary items scheduled and/or required to complete Project. D. All hardware furnished in connection with doors bearing Underwriters Labels or where necessary to meet special requirements shall be in strict accordance with conditions established by the authority having jurisdiction and shall be subject to approval of that authority. E. Hand of lock shall be as shown. If door hand is changed during construction, the CONTRACTOR shall make necessary changes at no extra cost to the DISTRICT. F. Exit doors shall be openable at all times from the inside without the use of key or any special knowledge or effort. The lockset shall not have an interior push button to lock from within. G. Finishes: To the extent possible, a satin chrome (US26D) or satin stainless steel (US32D) finish shall be used. Other finishes shall match the above in color and texture. 2.02 KEYING: A. Provide key system as follows: 1. Existing System: Grand master key or great-grand master key the locks to the DISTRICT s existing system, with a new master key for the Project. B. All locks, locksets and cylinders shall be registered and keyed at the factory. The CONTRACTOR shall obtain written acceptance of keying schedule from the DISTRICT and before placing order. C. Equip all locks with MANUFACTURER s cylinders for interchangeable-core pin tumbler inserts. Furnish only temporary inserts for the construction period, and remove these before Substantial Completion. Construction control keys and cores shall not be part of the DISTRICT s permanent keying system. Permanent cores and keys shall be furnished to the DISTRICT prior to Substantial Completion. D. Visual Key Control shall apply and all keys shall be furnished with plain bows stamped with keying or keyed alike symbols as per the accepted Keying Schedule. E. Stamp the reverse side of all keybows with: "Do Not Duplicate." F. Provide MANUFACTURER s standard restrictive keyways as required. G. Key Quantity: Provide three (3) keys for each lock. Master and grandmaster locks shall have five (5) keys provided. H. All keying (except when matching existing keying system or when less than ten (10) locksets are required) shall be done at the factory unless otherwise approved by the DISTRICT. I. A keying schedule shall be worked out between the DISTRICT, the CONTRACTOR, and the hardware supplier. The CONTRACTOR shall have the hardware supplier submit a keying schedule for approval prior to placing an order for the locks and keying of cylinders. 2.03 HINGES: 1. The CONTRACTOR shall coordinate keying with the Big Cypress Basin (BCB) Field Station Electrician. A. Hinges shall comply with ANSI/BHMA A156.1 and shall be heavy duty, stainless steel construction. 1. Hinges shall incorporate a security stud to prevent removal of the door in the closed position if the hinge pins are removed. Spec. Standard: 07/30/13 08700-3 Revision: 02/06/14

B. Except as otherwise required to comply with UL and NFPA, provide hinges as follows: 1. Doors up to three (3) feet wide to have size 4-1/2 x 4-1/2. 2. Doors over to three (3) feet wide to have size 5 x 4-1/2. C. Number of Hinges: 1. Doors up to seven (7) feet two (2) inches high to have 1-1/2 pair. 2. Add an additional hinge for each 2-1/2 feet, or fractions thereof, of additional door height. D. Hinge Pin Type and Security Screws: 2.04 LOCKSETS: 1. All hinges to have stainless steel pins with hospital tips and spanner head, or equivalent security-type screws. 2. Ball-bearing hinges shall be furnished on all doors having door closers and/or exit devices. All ball-bearing hinges shall have flush tips. 3. All hinges on exterior doors shall be provided with non-removable pins. A. Control room and Generator room doors shall be have mortise style locks, Schlage L9456 with 17A lever trims with 630 stainless steel finish, or approved equal. B. High Security Mortise Locks shall comply with ANSI/BHMA A156.13, Series 1000, Security Grade 1. C. Cylindrical locks and latches shall comply with ANSI/BHMA A156.2, Series 4000, Grade 1. D. Locks for fire rated doors shall comply with UL and NFPA 80 requirements. E. Finish: US 32 satin. 2.05 DOOR CLOSERS: A. Surface Door Closers shall be of one MANUFACTURER. Sized as per MANUFACTURER s recommendations. Installed with thru-bolts where applicable by security fastener. Doors opening out into corridors or exterior shall have parallel arms or be top jamb mounted. Finish shall match other door hardware. B. Closers shall comply with ANSI/BHMA A156.5. 2.06 FLUSH BOLTS: Provide manual flush bolts for inactive door of pairs, top and bottom, with length of rod as required by door height. 2.07 PLATES, PULLS AND PUSH BARS: Provide plates, pulls and push bars in compliance with ANSI/BHMA 156.6. A. Kick Plate ten (10) by two (2) inches less than door width US32D finish- 0.062 gauge beveled three (3) edges. B. Mop Plate four (4) by one (1) inch less than door width US32D finish - 0.062 gauge beveled three (3) edges. C. Armor Plate 40 inches high by two (2) inches less door width US32D finish - 0.062 gauge beveled three (3) edges. D. Door Pull - four (4) by sixteen (16) with US32D finish. E. F. Push Bar with US32D finish. G. Door Pull with US32D finish. 2.08 STOPS AND STAYS: Below with Spanner Head Screws SHS or SH Thru Bolts: A. Provide surface mounted, extra heavy-duty overhead holders and stops with hold-open feature. Doors with closers shall include this feature with the closer function. B. Floor and wall mounted door stops and hold open devices shall be provided with machine screens and anchors at concrete and masonry conditions, and toggle bolts at plaster, gypsum board, and wood conditions. 2.09 EXIT DEVICES: Provide rim-type or vertical rod-type exit devices in compliance with ANSI/BHMA A156.3. 2.10 SILENCERS: All interior doors shall be provided with rubber silencers, three (3) for each single door and two (2) for each pair of doors. 2.11 ASTRAGALS: Provide stainless steel astragals at each pair of doors. Fasten astragal to active door leaf with security screws. 2.12 COORDINATORS: Provide a coordinator for pairs of doors to prevent active door from closing ahead of inactive door. 2.13 THRESHOLDS: A. Provide aluminum thresholds with a maximum of 1/2-inch rise at all exterior and interior doors. B. Thresholds shall be five (5) inches wide with countersunk stainless steel screws and expansion shields. C. The surface pattern shall be fluted. D. Coordinate with ADA requirements, where applicable. 2.14 WEATHERSTRIPPING: A. Provide weatherstripping at head and jambs of all exterior doors. B. Interior doors shall have head, jambs, and astragals sealed with self-adhesive bubble configuration door seal designed against smoke, air, sound, and weather infiltration. The seals shall be fire tested and labeled as a gasketing for use on steel frames with wood or steel doors for 10-minutes C-label, 1 hour B-label, and 1-1/2-hour B-label doors. 2.15 LOCK BOX: Provide lock box, as shown on the Drawings. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.01 INSTALLATION: A. Finish hardware as scheduled shall be furnished by finish hardware supplier and installed by the CONTRACTOR in accordance with the MANUFACTURER s installation recommendations. B. Adjust closer backcheck and closing speeds for smooth and proper operation. 3.02 FINISHED INSTALLATION: At final completion, leave hardware clean and free from disfigurement and in proper working order.
