vi ABSTRAK Kajian ini bertujuan mengenalpasti kesan peranan sumber manusia dalam mengantara hubungan antara faktor penglibatan pengurus lini dalam inisiatif sumber manusia dan keberkesanan CPD. Berdasarkan kajian literatur, tiga faktor penglibatan pengurus lini dalam inisiatif sumber manusia telah dikenal pasti iaitu keinginan, efikasi kendiri dan sokongan sumber manusia. Manakala empat peranan sumber manusia yang digunakan sebagai pembolehubah pengantara adalah rakan kongsi strategic, pakar pentadbiran, juara pekerja dan ejen perubahan. Seramai 74 responden dari Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Skudai telah memberi maklum balas bagi kajian ini. Data dikumpul menggunakan borang soal selidik, sebelum dianalisis menggunakan statistik deskriptif dan multivariat untuk menjawab objektif kajian dan mengukur hubungan antara pembolehubah. Dapatan kajian menjelaskan bahawa faktor efikasi kendiri dan peranan pakar pentadbiran berada pada tahap yang paling tinggi di kalangan pengurus lini di UTM. Selain itu, hasil kajian juga menunjukkan bahawa terdapat hubungan yang sederhana antara semua faktor penglibatan pengurus lini dalam inisiatif sumber manusia dan keberkesanan CPD. Tiga peranan sumber manusia iaitu rakan kongsi strategik, juara pekerja dan ejen perubahan dapat mengantara kesemua faktor penglibatan pengurus lini dalam inisiatif sumber manusia (keinginan, efikasi kendiri, sokongan sumber manusia) dengan keberkesanan CPD. Manakala peranan pakar pentadbiran hanya dapat mengantara satu faktor sahaja iaitu efikasi kendiri dengan keberkesanan CPD. Beberapa cadangan juga telah dikemukakan kepada pengkaji masa hadapan untuk menambahbaik kajian ini pada masa akan datang.

vii ABSTRACT This study aims to identify the impact of the human resource roles to mediate the relationship between the involvement of line managers in human resource initiatives and the effectiveness of CPD. Based on the literature review, three factors of line manager s involvement in human resource initiatives were identified, namely desire, self-efficacy and support of human resource. While the four roles of human resources which are used as mediating variable are strategic partner, administrative expert, employee champion and change agent. A total of 74 respondents from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Skudai gave feedback for this study. Data was collected using questionnaires, before analyzed using descriptive and multivariate statistics to answer the research objectives and the relationship between the variables. The findings show that self-efficacy factors and the role of administrative expert are at the highest level among line managers in UTM. Moreover, the results also showed that there was a moderate relationship between all the factors of line managers involvement in human resource initiatives and the effectiveness of CPD. Three human resource roles which is strategic partner, employee champion and change agent can mediate all the factors line managers involvement in human resource initiatives (desire, self efficacy, human resource support) with the effectiveness of CPD. While the role of administrative expert can mediate only a factor (self-efficacy) to the effectiveness of CPD. Several suggestions were also offered to future research.
