The bioceramic final filter provides increased ph, higher levels of healthful minerals, a lower ORP (Oxidation Reduction Potential), a smaller water cluster size, an increase in active hydrogen ions, and antioxidant properties. Overview: The AlkaPlus Chloramine Redox uses five advanced filtration components to provide seven stages of filtration, with three vertical stages and two horizontally mounted inline filters labeled Stage 1 5 Micron Sediment and Stage 7 Bioceramic Alkalizing Antioxidant Filter. Included Components: 1. Triple filter wall mount housing designed to be installed either under a sink, or in a basement or lower level (additional tubing required for lower level installations). 2. Inline horizontally mounted 5 micron sediment filter. (Stage 1) OPUS Healthy Water Systems Available at Aviva 1224 St. James St. Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada R3H 0L1 Phone: 204.947.6789 Fax: 204.947.6786 www.opus.net water@aviva.ca 3. 10" bone char fluoride adsorption filter. This is an inline plastic unit horizontally mounted to the metal bracket on the top of the system with plastic clips. In normal use, this filter will last one year, but if there are higher than normal sediment levels in your water, it may need to be changed earlier. Change when water pressure drops significantly. This filter is labeled Stage 1 5 Micron Sediment Filter. Stage 2 Bone Char Fluoride Filter. This is the left vertical stage of the three vertically mounted filters. This filter is specifically designed to remove fluoride. Replace this filter annually. The metal frame above this filter is labeled Stage 2 Bone Char Fluoride Filter. Stage 3 & 4 3 lb KDF Media/1 lb GAC. This is the middle, or centre vertical stage of the unit. This filter consists of two components (two stages), including the equivalent of 3 pounds of KDF media and 1 pound granulated activated carbon (GAC). KDF media is a copper-zinc formulation that combines electrochemical and catalytic technology to remove chlorine, lead, mercury, iron, aluminum, arsenic, chromium, copper, manganese, nickel, chloroform, trichloroethane, lindane, nitrates, nitrites and hydrogen sulfide from water. KDF media has a mild anti-bacterial, algaecitic, and fungicitic effect, and may reduce the accumulation of lime scale. Replace this filter annually. The metal frame above this filter is labeled STAGE 3 & 4-3 lb KDF/GAC. Stage 5 & 6 Catalytic Carbon Chlorine and Chloramine Filter. This is the right vertical stage of the unit, and is a 1 micron catalytic carbon block filter with multiple functions, including: Trapping particles down to 1 micron from the bone char fluoride filter in stage 2, and from the KDF/GAC filter in stage 3 & 4. (Stage 5) Removing chlorine, chloramines, odors, and bad taste. (Stage 6) This metal housing above this filter is labeled Stage 5 & 6 1 Micron Catalytic Carbon Chloramine Filter. Stage 7 Bioceramic Alkalizing Antioxidant Filter. Using bioceramics, alkalizing minerals (magnesium, calcium and potassium), and other unique minerals and ceramics, the OPUS Bioceramic alkalizing antioxidant filter is a large 14 inch horizontally mounted inline filter which transforms water purified by the previous six stages into antioxidant, oxygenated, alkalizing drinking water with a reduced oxidation reduction potential (ORP) and a higher ph. Benefits of the bioceramic filter: Increased ph, creating more alkaline (higher ph) drinking water. Alkaline liquids help flush acidic metabolites and toxins at the cellular level, while increasing the body s alkalinity. Addition of healthful ionic (ionized) minerals, including magnesium, calcium, and potassium. Increased oxygen. Ionized water can deliver twice as much oxygen to your cells as tap or bottled water can. German biochemist Dr. Otto Warburg won the Nobel Prize for research indicating that cancer cells are anaerobic and that cancer cannot survive in the presence of oxygen. The antioxidant function scavenges oxygen free radicals (reactive oxygen species), and may help reduce the risk of degenerative diseases including cancer, diabetes, and heart disease.

Page 3 of 6 A l k a P l u s C h l o r a m i n e R e d o x I n s t a l l a t i o n ( 0 3-2 4-2015) Tourmaline Far-infrared ceramic balls produce negative hydrogen (hydroxyl) ions and create a smaller water cluster size. Smaller water clusters (51.497 Hz) hydrate the body up to 3 times more effectively than normal water, while helping to increase the absorption of nutrients and minerals. Lowers the ORP (oxidation reducing potential) of water to between -100mv and -350mv depending on source water and raises the ph to between 8 and 9.5. NOTE ABOUT QUICK CONNECTS: All OPUS water purification systems utilize quick connects for all tubing connections, including the connection to the John Guest ball valve (shutoff valve), faucet (there is a small gray piece with the quick connect supplied with the faucet) and input and output of the water filtration system. The quick connect allows easy insertion and removal of ¼" tubing. To remove the tubing, you must hold in the ring or collar that is on the outside of the tubing (the ring or collar surrounds the tubing and is part of the quick connect). When you hold in the ring (sometimes you need a flathead screwdriver, but usually your finger will do) the tubing will easily slide out. If you try to pull out the tubing without holding in the ring, you can damage the quick connect fitting. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS STEP 1 INSTALL THE SUPPLIED FAUCET TO YOUR SINK. Drill 5/8" hole if required. If your sink or countertop doesn t have a hole for the supplied faucet, a 5/8" hole must be drilled to allow faucet installation. After the faucet has been installed, mount the unit under your sink or in a location that provides easy access for future filter changes. Note 1: Most plumbers cannot drill into quartz, granite, or similar solid countertops for faucet installation. If you have a solid countertop, check with your installer to ensure he or she can drill into your countertop without risking damage. It s usually best to contact the countertop supplier or manufacturer to drill the 5/8" hole required for faucet installation if you have a solid countertop. Note 2: Your plumber must provide a connection to your cold water source and to the input of the AlkaPlus Chloramine Redox system. We recommend SharkBite U362 ½" TEE, and a Dahl straight shut-off ball valve (1/2" PEX ¼" OD). These are included if you choose an Aviva recommended plumber. If you choose to use your own plumber, these parts are available for $42.00 plus tax. 1. The 5 foot length of ¼" red tubing is used to connect the cold water source to the AlkaPlus Chloramine Redox water input (the blue and white John Guest shut-off valve) that is inserted into the water input on the right side of the horizontally mounted 5 micron sediment filter. 2. During the flushing process the blue tubing that connects to the faucet is temporarily connected to the output on the right side of the system, bypassing the Bioceramic filter, with the short white piece of tubing that connects to the Bioceramic filter disconnected. 3. After flushing is finished, the tubing is reconnected to connect Stage 5 & 6 (the quick connect on the right side of the unit) to the Stage 7 Bioceramic filter, and the blue tubing that connects to the faucet is connected to the quick connect on the left side (output) of the Stage 7 filter. When replacing the bioceramic filter, remember to remove the two quick connects, as they need to be installed on your replacement filter.

Page 4 of 6 A l k a P l u s C h l o r a m i n e R e d o x I n s t a l l a t i o n ( 0 3-2 4-2015) Important: Before use, the filters must be flushed as described below. Until the flushing is completed, the blue (output) tubing is connected to the output on the right side of the system to the faucet, bypassing the final Bioceramic filter, while the short white piece of tubing that connects the right side of the system to the Bioceramic filter is disconnected. When shipped, this short white tubing should be disconnected. After flushing has been completed, the short white piece of tubing is reconnected, to connect Stage 5 & 6 (right side of the unit) to the Stage 7 Bioceramic filter. STEP 2 BONE CHAR FLUORIDE FILTER FLUSH 1. The first step in the installation process is flushing the bone char fluoride filter of fine bone char powder dust. Failure to follow this step will result in bone char particles clogging the KDF/GAC filter (Stage 3 & 4) and the 1 micron catalytic carbon block stage 5 & 6 chloramine reduction filter. If proper flushing is not performed as described in this document, you will need to replace these two filters. To prepare for flushing the bone char fluoride filter installed in Stage 2 (left vertical housing), remove the filters from the center and right filter housings. Using the supplied filter wrench, turn the middle and right filter housings to the left to open and remove the filters. The filters are labeled Stage 3 & 4 KDF/GAC Filter and Stage 5 & 6 1 Micron Chloramine Filter on the white metal frame above the filter housings. Replace the empty filter containers. Make sure the O-ring (thin rubber washer) is visible in the groove of the white filter housings when you screw the filter housing back onto the system. If the O-ring is not seated properly, the vertical housing will leak. Any labels and plastic wrapping should be removed from all installed filters when you receive the unit, but if there are labels or plastic wrapping on the filters, remove them prior to re-installing (as described below) after flushing. 2. Turn on the water using the John Guest ball valve that is connected to the Stage 1 horizontally mounted 5 micron sediment filter, open the faucet, and run water through the system for 15 minutes. 3. Water will pass through the 5 micron horizontally mounted sediment filter, the bone char fluoride filter in the left filter housing, the two empty filter housings, and out the faucet. STEP 3 KDF/GAC FILTER FLUSH 1. After the bone char fluoride filter has been flushed for 15 minutes, turn off the water using the John Guest ball valve that is connected to the 5 micron sediment filter. Leave the faucet open (handle turned down) to ensure the water has been turned off, and no water is entering the filtration system. 2. When no water exits the faucet, it is safe to remove the center vertical filter container which previously had the KDF/GAC installed. Dump out the water and install the Stage 3 & 4 KDF/GAC filter. This is a two toned filter, with the black activated carbon media at the top, and a gold colored media at the bottom. Make sure that the flat rubber washer is in place at the center of the top of the filter when you put it in the housing. Screw on the filter container tightly using the supplied filter wrench. 3. Turn on the water using the John Guest ball valve that is connected to the stage one 5 micron sediment filter, and run water through the system for 15 minutes.

Page 5 of 6 A l k a P l u s C h l o r a m i n e R e d o x I n s t a l l a t i o n ( 0 3-2 4-2015) STEP 4 INSTALL THE 1 MICRON CHLORAMINE FILTER IN POSITION 3 (STAGE 5 & 6) 1. After you have flushed the filters in the left and middle filter containers (Steps 2 & 3), turn off the water to the system by closing the John Guest ball valve installed in the input of the stage 1 sediment filter. Keep the faucet open to ensure no water is flowing through the unit. 2. Unscrew the Stage 5 & 6 right vertical filter container using the supplied filter wrench and install the 1 micron catalytic carbon block chloramine filter (Stage 5 & 6, white with blue rings on each end). Remove any cellophane wrapping (if present) before installation. You can install this filter in either direction, as there are rubber washers on both sides. Remember to install the other filters (KDF/GAC and Bone Char) with rubber washers facing upwards. 3. Turn on the water to the system by opening the John Guest ball valve (with faucet open) connected to the 5 micron sediment filter. Check for leaks. Run water through the system for 10 minutes, then turn off the water to the system using the John Guest shut-off valve. STEP 5 CONNECT STAGE 5 & 6 (RIGHT SIDE OF UNIT) TO THE STAGE 7 BIOCERAMIC FILTER 1. Remove the blue ¼" faucet tubing that connects to the quick connect on the right side of the unit by holding in the ring (collar) that surrounds the tubing and pulling out the tubing. 2. Insert the short white piece of tubing that is connected to the input on the right of the Stage 7 bioceramic filter to the quick connect on the right side of system. This connects the Stage 5 & 6 1 micron carbon block chloramine filter to the final horizontally mounted bioceramic Stage 7 filter. STEP 6 CONNECT BLUE TUBING TO STAGE 7 OUTPUT (BIOCERAMIC FILTER OUTPUT) Connect the ¼" blue tubing that connects to the faucet, which was previously connected to the right side of the filtration system (after stage 5 & 6), to the quick connect that is attached to the output on the left side of the Stage 7 bioceramic filter. STEP 7 FLUSH THE BIOCERAMIC FILTER Turn on the John Guest ball valve and allow water to run through the system for 30 minutes to flush the bioceramic filter. A minimum of 24 gallons are required to flush the bioceramic filter. If you detect a metallic or unusual taste, you may need to flush for another 15 to 30 minutes, but usually thirty minutes is sufficient. You can now enjoy great-tasting, health-promoting, alkaline, antioxidant, mineral-rich water free of fluoride, chlorine, chloramines, chemicals and contaminants.
