Work Session #1 Overview BCC Work Session on March 6, 2018 2016 Florida Springs and Aquifer Protection Act requires update to BMAP Wekiwa Spring and Rock Springs impaired for nitrogen FDEP presented program requirements EPD gave an overview of water quality project types Summary Orange County is the largest stakeholder Significant financial investment to meet State standards

Community Meeting Summary Citizen concerns regarding BMAP requirements: Costs of upgrades and conversions Timeframe for implementation Contingencies for power outages Performance of nitrogen-reducing systems FDOH and FDEP were not able provide clear answers to many of the concerns raised

Future Strategies State to focus on Springs BMAP Septic conversion to sewer and septic upgrades Work with FDEP on feasibility study 500 sewer connections could reduce 10,000 lbs at a cost of $28M County will assist FDOH to ensure residents are educated on options
