REFRACTORIES FOR HEAT TREATING SAINT-GOBAIN INDUSTRIAL CERAMICS
Saint-Gobain Industrial Ceramics Refractories for Heat Treating Applications Saint-Gobain Industrial Ceramics (SGIC) produces high-performance refractories that stand up to the demands of tough heat treating applications. At temperatures where other products warp, craze and crack, our products are engineered to maintain dimensional integrity. SGIC manufactures a variety of products specifically for annealing specialty steels and for sintering powdered metal or carbon/graphite parts. Our refractories are engineered for longer life, dimensional stability, and chemical compatibility. We understand that our refractories are an integral part of your day-to-day operation and that you need maximum performance with minimal variability. Our marketing team is a unique combination of engineers and materials scientists who will work with you to design, engineer and deliver the high performance refractories you require. Products backed by superior research and engineering At our Northboro and Worcester, Massachusetts R&D facilities, we engineer advanced materials and products as well as provide solutions to customers applications. For example, salt and pepper kiln furniture (alumina and (SiC)) and mullite coatings for SiC were developed for applications where chemical compatibility and purity were concerns. In addition to our engineering services, we can provide a range of R&D capabilities which include: R & D capabilities include: Localized chemistry and microscopy with a scanning electron microscope (SEM) Wet chemistry Mechanical testing at room and high temperatures Creep, tension and compression measurements Carbon, nitrogen and oxygen analysis Particle size analysis Oxide firing capabilities to 1700 C Atmosphere firing to 2100 C Finite element analysis (computer modeling) X-ray diffraction for phase analysis X-ray radiography for non-destructive evaluation Cover Photography courtesy of:
Muffles SiC muffles are a high performance, low cost alternative to alloy muffles. SiC provides excellent thermal conductivity and good corrosion, thermal shock and wear resistance. High purity alumina muffles provides exceptional purity required in atmosphere furnaces; they have good hot strength and wear resistance. Hearth plates SiC plates provide superior oxidation resistance, wear resistance, thermal efficiency and strength. Alumina and Mullite plates provide good strength and purity in atmosphere furnaces where chemical compatibility is important. Brick Alundum and Alfrax high-purity alumina brick offer exceptional purity required in atmosphere furnaces. Radiant Tubes Crystar RB and Silit SK SiC radiant tubes provide greater corrosion and temperature resistance than alloys. SGIC is the first manufacturer in the U.S. to produce these gas-tight tubes. Kiln furniture (e.g., setters, saggers, pusher plates, batts, boats ) SiC and Alumina kiln furniture enhance productivity in demanding applications. They deliver thermal shock resistance, chemical compatibility, creep resistance, oxidation resistance and dimensional stability. Beams SiC beams offer excellent strength and oxidation resistance. Saint-Gobain is the leader in engineering LO-MASS SiC designs used to increase setting space in load-bearing applications.
