Data sheet DS/210118-EN Rev. AF Analyzer products Btu options Overview The use of proper sample conditioning equipment ensures the integrity of the results and the trouble-free operation of all the ABB chromatograph models. The probes, modular sample systems and accessories described here will allow on-line analysis in a wide range of real world samples. These items have been carefully selected to allow the use of many popular, functional components to protect the user s GC investment while ensuring optimum sampling for analysis data fidelity. Trouble-free operation of the chromatograph Ensure analysis data fidelity Reduces sample transport lag Reduce maintenance costs Protect valuable GC components described here are: Pressure reducing sampling probes Standard temperature compensating Liquid rejection Fixed or retractable Electrically heated Automatic insertion Pre-engineered sample conditioning modules Liquid shut off Installation and maintenance kits

Analyzer products Btu options Temperature compensating pressure reducing probes (Welker) These probes permit a clean, dry, representative sample to be withdrawn from the flowing gas stream 1. The probes will reduce the gas pipeline pressure (up to 100 psig) to 1 psig in the sample transport tubing. This is needed to move the sample from the probe to the chromatograph with the least amount of sample transport lag. The loss of heat caused by the auto-refrigeration effect is compensated by the natural gas by means of heat transfer vanes cut into the probe itself. Electrically heated probes (P/N 2100030-001) This probe assembly can be used whenever AC power is available. A GO regulator provides the pressure regulation. It is supplied with an explosion proof electric heater to counter the auto refrigeration due to the pressure drop. This prevents condensation of hydrocarbons. The assembly is supplied with an 18" insertion tube with a welded ferrule and a conax gland. This tube should be inserted into the pipeline at least 1" from the pipe wall 1 for gas sampling (see drawing 210001). Auto insertion probes (Welker) Temperature compensated regulator, 0 to 2 PSIG, 3/4" NPT, 3" to 1" Welker Style IRD-4SS (Specify length to reach 1" to 3" into flow inside of pipe) Customer connection 1/4" NPT Pressure gauge Relief Valve Customer installed coupling Sample probe Gas sample flow 3/4" NPT These are for the same purpose as the standard probes mentioned previously, except that they are for larger lines or lines that cannot be shut-in and blown-down for installation and/or inspection. They have the capability for using the pipeline pressure to assist in the insertion into a flowing gas pipeline. All are Welker IRA-4SS Probes are listed: Probe Type: Instrument Regulator, 18" LGT 31SS, Automatic Insertion (P/N 1800287-001) Probe Type: Instrument Regulator, 24" LGT, 31SS, Automatic Insertion (P/N 1800294-001) Probe Type: Instrument Regulator, 3" LGT, 31SS, Automatic Insertion (P/N 180029-001) Gas meter pipe run Temperature Temperature compensated Compensated regulator sample Regulator probe installation 1 API 14.1 recommends using a Strouhal number to determine probe lengths, therefore reducing the effects of resonant vibration. Please refer to API standards for additional information. These are temperature compensating probe regulators. The loss of heat caused by the auto-refrigeration effect is compensated by the natural gas by means of heat transfer vanes cut into the probe itself. Note: The Welker probe may experience plugging problems at the tip and the temperature compensating vanes may be fouled in these conditions. 2 DS/210118-EN Analyzer products

Liquid rejection probes (Genie) This probe assembly can be used whenever hydrocarbon liquids are present. This probe has a Genie membrane that rejects the liquid hydrocarbon in the pipe at line pressure. This ensures that abnormally high Btu values will not result from the vaporization of entrained liquids at the probe. Genie liquid rejection probes can be configured for fixed or retractable versions. Fixed Genie Probes; GPR 20-SS-014 (specify insertion length) Genie Accessory Kit; GPR-ALL-1112 (specify NPT fitting) (with gauge) Inserted Genie Probes; GPR; 20-SS-014 - (11, 14, 1 or 19) (specify length) Genie Installation Tool (specify length) The probe can be obtained with or without pressure regulation. With pressure regulation they are temperature compensated by the thermal energy in the natural gas, which is used to take away the auto refrigeration due to pressure drop. Pre-engineered conditioning modules These optional sampling conditioning modules are preengineered to reduce the effort involved in proper sampling. They provide various levels of protection and bypass flows, while providing a representative, single phase, current sample to the chromatograph. These modules are not needed if the chromatograph is mounted within 10' (3m) of the sample probe and the natural gas is pipeline quality; that is: clean and dry (see Note 1). There are five types of modules corresponding to five levels of quality of the natural gas. These are as follows: Type 1 sample conditioning module (P/N 201424-001 for Btu 8000 and 2102023-001 for NGC) Designed for a clean, dry, stable gas, with minor amounts of particulate contamination where the sample point is more than 10' (3m) and less than 0' (1m) from the chromatograph. Each has a preset restrictor to provide a 0 cc/min bleed rate. The customer guarantees that upset conditions, compressor failure, or other problems that produce liquid will never occur. It is also suitable where a high quality sampling system already exists. (Analyzer bypass flow is expected to be 10cc/min.) 2102023-001 Analyzer products DS/210118-EN 3

Analyzer products Btu options Type 2 sample conditioning module (P/N 201424-002 for Btu 8000 and 2102023-002 for NGC) Designed for clean, stable gas sample point distances greater than 10' (3m) and less than 0' (1m). Each has a preset restrictor to provide a 0 cc/min bleed rate. The sample may contain minor amounts of liquids such as glycol, compressor oil, or water. This system will also handle very minor amounts of particulate contamination. Type 3 sample conditioning module (P/N 201424-003 for Btu 8000 and 2102024-001 for NGC) Designed for sample point distances greater than 10' (3m) and less than 10' (0m) This module has two factory set purge coils with a total of 40 cc/min bleed rate, to be used if the sample is known to contain particulate and liquid contamination. Has a liquid coalescer as well as a Genie 170 membrane filter with two bypass flows. 2102023-002 Type 4 sample conditioning module (P/N 2102494-001 for Btu 8000 and NGC) Designed for sample point distance greater than 0' (1m) and less than 10' (0m). The sample gas is known to contain particulate and liquid contamination with a good probability of line flooding in upset conditions, enough at times to overflow the coalescer (A+ Avenger). Also has a Genie membrane for liquid rejection and a Genie liquid shut off to be used when liquid carry over would harm the chromatograph if it was introduced as a sample. This model contains a liquid shut off to protect the GC. The liquid shut off resets itself when liquids are no longer present. 2102024-001 Type sample conditioning module (for use with Genie probe) (P/N 201424-00) Designed for sample point distances greater than 10' (3m) and less than 0' (1m). For stable gas samples that could contain liquid or if there is a possibility that the gas dew point has been reached. This module is designed to work with the Genie liquid rejection probe. 2102494-001 FROM SAMPLE SCHEMATIC GENIE FILTER TO BTU XMTR 4 DS/210118-EN Analyzer products

Liquid shut-off (Stand alone/spare) If there is a chance that there will be liquid that can get into the sample probe and make its way to the transmitter, this device, when installed into the sample transport line, will shut off the flow to the unit and protect it from damage due to liquid flooding the columns. This device is designed as an integral part of the Type 4 Sample Conditioning Module. Analyzer Liquid Shut-Off, 01AL, (300 MAOP) Welker ALS-2 (P/N 171002-00) Low pressure sampling system (P/N 2103293-001) For very low or no pressure sample such as landfill gas or sewage plant gas. This version is also available in a heated enclosure. Please contact ABB projects for more information. 2103293-001 Analyzer products DS/210118-EN
