WASSTRIP (Waste Activated Sludge Stripping to Remove Internal Phosphorus) complements Ostara s Pearl nutrient recovery process in bio-p plants by releasing magnesium, potassium and phosphate before it reaches the WAS thickening stage. Providing a more comprehensive nutrient management solution, WASSTRIP increases process efficiency and energy recovery potential. By effectively stripping struvite from wastewater treatment systems, WASSTRIP improves plant performance, increases digester capacity, and helps efficiently produce drier, more balanced biosolids.

INFLUENT TREATED EFFLUENT SECONDARY TREATMENT EFFLUENT SLUDGE HOW IT WORKS WASSTRIP tackles struvite issues; improving dewaterability, reducing biosolids production, and preventing struvite formation throughout the wastewater treatment plant. The thickening liquor, such as GBT filtrate, DAF subnatant etc., is diverted from the sludge stream and combined with dewatering liquor so the nutrients can be recovered for CRYSTAL GREEN PRILLS PHOSPHORUS AND MAGNESIUM LIQUOR TARGETED STRUVITE CONTROL PHOSPHORUS AND AMMONIA DE-WATERING SLUDGE ANAEROBIC DIGESTER WASSTRIP LIQUOR THICKENER SLUDGE WASSTRIP Improved digested sludge dewaterability Struvite scale protection throughout the sludge treatment stream Reduced biosolids phosphorus content Improved digestion performance Increased production of Crystal Green fertilizer WASSTRIP reuse in the Pearl reactor, virtually eliminating the buildup of struvite throughout the system. A cost-effective and complementary solution upstream of the Pearl process, WASSTRIP solves struvite issues before they start. BIOSOLIDS Reduce total phosphorus by up to 9% Reduce water soluble P in biosolids by 70% Increase dryness of cake while reducing volume by up to 20%

IMPROVE DIGESTED SLUDGE DEWATERABILITY By releasing nutrient compounds before they reach the digester, WASSTRIP improves dewaterability, effectively producing drier, more balanced biosolids. WASSTRIP also saves money by reducing dependency on coagulants and flocculants such as alum and polymers. ANNUAL AVERAGE REDUCTION IN DRY & WET BIOSOLIDS PRODUCTION 14 TONS 10 TONS 60 TONS 45 TONS DRY TONS (UP TO 28%) WET TONS (UP TO 25%) Decrease costly dependence on coagulants and flocculants Increase biosolids cake solids by up to 4% Reduce biosolids production up to 20% BOOST DEWATERABILITY

Reduce total phosphorus by up to 9% Reduce water soluble P in biosolids by 70% Increase dryness of cake while reducing volume by up to 20% REDUCE OVERALL BIOSOLIDS VOLUME WHILE PRODUCING DRIER, MORE BALANCED BIOSOLIDS Nutrient pollution from fertilizer runoff is a growing concern. Many jurisdictions now limit the amount of P allowed in biosolids. WASSTRIP helps improve the P to N balance by reducing the total phosphorus content. WASSTRIP also drastically reduces the amount of orthophosphate, or water soluble P, decreasing the mobility of the phosphorus in the soil and further reducing the risks of runoff, while potentially allowing for greater distribution for land application. REDUCE BIOSOLIDS REDUCE BIOSOLIDS BY NEARLY 1 TRUCKLOAD PER DAY

IMPROVE DIGESTER CAPACITY AND PREVENT STRUVITE FORMATION Struvite formation can occupy valuable space in the digester, lowering efficiency, decreasing capacity and requiring costly cleaning and maintenance. WASSTRIP selectively releases the P & Mg before they reach the digester, bypassing it for the Pearl where the nutrients can be recovered, rather than wasted. REDUCE STRUVITE FORMATION BY 90% WITHOUT WASSTRIP WITH WASSTRIP Decrease struvite formation in anaerobic digesters Reduce maintenance and cleaning costs Increase digester capacity IMPROVE DIGESTER CAPACITY
