I Can do WHAT? A Look into Compass Viewers Session Q&A

1. Do we need Compass Analytics to take this? Or... I have Performance Manager and Inventory Planner... but not the whole thing. If you turn on Eagle N Series, then you will have the capabilities of the Active Viewers but not as wide ranging as if you have Compass Analytics. Thom will be defining the difference in between the two Compass and Eagle N Series version. 2. Do employees have to possess security in IMU, MCR, MVR in order to make changes in Compass Viewer or can they just have access in Compass? Employees would have to have the ability to make changes from Eagle security. 3. How do I know if I have Compass? Is it a separate purchase? Compass Analytics is a purchase option. These viewers are also available within Eagle N Series if/when you roll that out with the newest release. I would suggest checking with your Account Manager to see if you have Compass Analytics. 4. Just in case he doesn't mention it: (1) Never use Column Filtering w/active Viewers (2) Keep an eye out for Job vs. Account data fields you are updating when using A/R Viewer. Absolutely a great point! It should always be in the filter area because if you use Column Filter it changes everything in the grid even though it is hidden. The Jobs have to be added otherwise it does not update jobs. 5. How do you add data by importing from a spreadsheet? There is an Add button within the viewer, and you can import into that adds area to add customers, items or vendors. 6. So, Active Viewers cannot also be accessed via Performance Manager & similar (sort of partial Compass)? If you have Eagle N Series turned on, then you will have access to the Active Viewers there. 7. Can you give us a common example of the use of these functions? Also, what benefit would there be to making changes in Compass rather than Eagle like we currently do? All changes within Active Viewers is recorded in the Inventory Change Log, Customer Change Log and Vendor Change Log and recorded as a Compass event with user name and terminal, date and time changed, so you have a log. 8. On which Eagle version is this available? Eagle N Series has the Active Viewers available or if you have Compass Analytics. (Release 24.1 or higher.) 9. I have option 8829 as yes, but 1096 is no. Are they licensed separately? It should be available. You just need to change 1096 to Yes. No licensing is necessary.

10. I know Viewer is available, but Compass itself? Compass Analytics is a purchase option that allows you to design and auto deliver data via email or make changes to Performance Manager dashboards/reports. 11. We have 37 stores and use Active Viewers every day. One thing I have noticed is that when making bulk changes to a field using the Colum Fill down options, if using filters, fill down updates all items in viewer no matter if they are filtered out or not. Yes, very valid. You should never use Column Filter. It should be in the Filter On area only. 12. I've tried to make changes after putting filters on my viewers using fill, but it makes the change outside of the filters. Is there a way to select only those lines within the filter's parameters? If you have Compass Analytics, you can use the Lookup or Filter On area very dangerous using Column filters because it changes all even though not visible. 13. We have seen issues when changing pricing in Active Compass Viewers. As a result we have avoided changing prices through Compass. Is there a process to changing prices accurately in Compass Viewers? I have done price changes and cost changes using Active Viewers. Just make sure it is two decimals, but you are bypassing Item Price Change file (IPC) which you lose control of printing bin tags. 14. Why can't all columns be editable? There are certain data elements that can't be updated or changed for protection of data integrity or the way the field is designed. 15. At this point, I pull the SKUs out of Compass into Excel, then import those back into the Active Viewer, time consuming but effective. Yes, you would have to put in designer mode and add the Dimensions in the Lookup or Filter then use that. 16. If the owner uses Margin Master, they may not have this feature. None of this looks familiar, but it does exactly what I have asked them why Eagle viewer cannot, which is bring up a list of locations, store close outs, etc. and change same info on all. If you have Eagle N Series, they would be able to make changes to Locations and Store Closeout for sure using the Active Viewers. 17. Is there a trail of what changes were made in Compass, similar to what ITR does? Yes, all changes are recorded in Inventory Change Log, Vendor Change Log and Customer Change Log as changed by Compass with date, time, user and terminal. 18. Can you change dept. codes like he is changing class codes? Yes, I have changed Department Codes on a regular basis using this tool.

19. What are the advantages or disadvantages of using Active Viewers versus Data Import Tool? Advantage is that it is recorded in the Change Log and if you have Compass you can revert back using the Before Change field. 20. Do the Active Viewers replace the Data Import Tools functionality? They enhance the capability. Think of Eagle Viewers being able to make changes just ad hoc as you see things that don't look right in the viewer without having to do an import. 21. Do the files need to be CSV or can it be any Excel files? Either CSV or Excel (xls or xlsx) are available. 22. So my Eagle is probably an earlier version. Where is the version listed? In an Eagle application, if you click on Help at the top, not the Help Icon and click on About and it will give your version of Eagle you are running. 23. What would you do differently to update the same field with the exact same change across all of your stores? You can list all stores for Store Specific data and make changes. Master Data just requires one store. 24. Do the columns on the screen have to mirror the columns in the spreadsheet (exact order, etc...)? They do not. It does a match on the column name no matter which order they are in. 25. If, in the Customers Active Viewer example just now, why would any customer not be a match, if it's an "ETL" operation where one started with data originally from the system? I have this frustration, betimes, nowadays with Data Import functions, too. In most cases I have seen the Export from the Viewer will cause the column to be Text instead of Numeric and I have to change it to not have any errors coming back in. Just check the spreadsheet for that little green triangle on top right of row in Excel. 26. Do you have an Excel spreadsheet that has all of the base information needed to create a SKU? Meaning, does it have everything required in order for a SKU to be added to your system correctly? (SKU, Description, Stock UM, etc.) Think of it this way: what do you require if someone is adding an item manually in IMU? That is what you would need in your spreadsheet. It is left up to you to decide what is necessary. 27. Can editing inventory records in Active Viewer substitute for function PIP? If you change a Quantity it does record to ITR as a Shrinkage item either +/ just as it would from PIP. Just use default Shrink Code.

28. It seems that Compass does not update all price locations when changed in an Active Viewer. Is there a way to update all fields at once? I am assuming you are talking about Price 15? If that is correct, they are available to update as well especially if you have them marked to update independently. 29. Is it possible to pull together both the Primary vendor/part# AND the Alternate vendor/part# within the same viewer to export/import? Yes. 30. Unlike Data Import, there isn't a set parameter Eagle requires? No, there is not. It uses a matching column name to import in. 31. When importing new items, do you have to have an item number assigned or can the system assign a SKU, similar to doing a manual load in IMU? I have always used the approach that I create an item # in the Excel spreadsheet. 32. When importing new items the system will not automatically assign new SKU numbers? Never tried, but there is an option in Eagle that says Auto assign SKU number. Are you saying that does not work adding from the viewer? If so, I would recommend contacting the Eagle Advice Line for assistance. 33. For adding records (for any of the three active viewers), does a document exist that defines exactly which fields are required to include in the import? No document; think of it this way if someone adds one of these in manually what do you require that they fill in? 34. When adding items by importing Excel, do you need to assign SKUs or can you auto assign SKUs in Compass? I have always used the approach that I create an item number in the Excel spreadsheet. 35. On importing new items into Compass, does it operate the same way as FIL's import data files and get a little wonky when punctuation i.e. ' or " or, are part of the cell data? You can use those characters because you can use Excel format instead of CSV. I am assuming that is what you are asking. 36. When importing new items, will the system create the item number if you leave that field blank? I have always used the approach that I create an item number in the Excel spreadsheet. 37. What is the security bit to prevent folks from carrying out deletion of... well, perhaps it's broken down by various types of data. I'm thinking especially inventory and e.g. UPCs / barcodes and alternate UPC information, input more so for SEO. There are multiple security bits to cover the deletion of different types of data.

38. Can you clear out fields like user codes? Yes, it will allow a clear out. 39. Is there a viewer that can be used in place of PIP? You could use the Active Inventory viewer to change QOH, but it will utilize a default shrinkage code only and you will not easily be able to see variances before you post. 40. Can you combine records within the Active Viewer? No, that would be in Eagle. 41. How do we filter from a header? You would have to put the viewer in Designer Mode and add the Dimension in the Lookup or Filter Area. 42. Can you use filters when deleting items or does it delete everything that is hidden too? You cannot use a Column Filter (right click on column, show filters is a No-no). You have to use the Lookup or Filter On area. 43. What is a good rule of thumb before deleting anything, no history for how many months? Or should these areas go through a year-end history roll? Usually 13 months no sales history, 13 months no Purchase history and of course no QOH, QOO, QC. 44. It says PCO 22.2020.182, for PCO 34.2535.245 I need to get the owner more information about why we need to get more out of this system, and having Margin Master in the mix (which I don t even access) is very disjointed from what we need. You are not on the latest release, which is Release 25. You are still on Level 22, so there is opportunity to upgrade at some point to get some great functionality. Remember The general releases are free, included as part of your ongoing support. 45. Can you change the default data that gets retrieved each time an inventory viewer is opened? For example, we like to see the sequence numbers for inventory, but have to manually add it in designer view. It has to be added each time at this point OR you can add it and save the Page with a new name. 46. Is it possible to export ALL UPC " codes with Active Viewers? I've found that limiting in the past trying to map for data import? UPC's are a different table not part of the Active Viewer

47. Could I use Active Viewers to combine vendors, as I'm told that combinations are only possible on the customer end, rather, curiously...but perhaps that's all from the regular Eagle environment? Not at this time, we have combine Customer and Inventory Item but nothing on Vendors at this point and it is all in Eagle 48. IF you make item changes does it affect all your stores or just the one? Just like in Eagle there is the concept of Master Data and Store Specific Data if trying to change Store Specific data you would need to show stores you want to change. 49. When adding from spreadsheet, you said that column headers must match what is in compass, but sometimes compass headers do not match what is in Eagle. How does that work? I always right click on a Column choose Column, Customize and Restore Default to make sure it is a proper match. 50. Is it possible to rearrange the mess of primary vs. alt vendor # 198986765876, when I've inherited issues wherein that hierarchy no longer makes much sense, nor was it implemented consistently in the old ERP environment? I would need further clarification to answer this question. I would recommend that you contact the Eagle Advice Line to assist you. 51. Can one access or change the contents of Note Group 8 in the Active Viewer for the inventory? No, there is no access to the note type 8 from the Active Viewer. 52. What is the difference between lookup and top level filter? Top Level Filter = Comprehensive filter options. Lookup = Easy to use. 53. Can you create your own Active Viewers? With Compass Analytics, you could make changes and save. 54. If you do a price change, can you print a list of all the changes made like IPC prints out? You could look in the Item Change Viewer to see that changes made. 55. Where did you find the Designer view? Right Click in a Dashboard view, and choose Designer View. 56. Can you build a custom viewer and save it to be available in Eagle Analytics? Yes.
