INCORPORATION OF ADHESIVE ANCHORS INTO ACI 318 Background In response to the 2006 ceiling collapse at the Boston Big Dig tunnel, ACI began to formulate an approach to include adhesive anchors in the ACI 318 code. With the issuance of the ACI 355.4-11 test criteria and the adoption by the 2012 International Building Code (IBC), ICC-ES made significant revisions to AC308 to incorporate provisions contained in ACI 355.4 and to reference the design provisions of ACI 318. Significant Change in Acceptance Criteria* Research of sustained load response of adhesive anchors determined that the qualification of adhesive anchors on the basis of concrete temperatures corresponding to room temperatures (75 F) did not address temperatures sometimes seen in typical applications. The 2013 version of AC308 changed the testing criteria to a min. long term temp. of 110 F to match ACI 355.4.
