How does this pricing work? Blackbox is a new kind of fulfillment platform designed and built from scratch to put creators and customers first. We make the process of shipping crowdfunding projects and fulfilling webstore orders easier than ever by dealing with all the annoying complexities that would otherwise distract you from working on your actual business (which probably isn t packing and shipping boxes). Crowdfunding and webstore orders use the same base rates. There s no difference between the base rates we charge for crowdfunding projects and the base rates we charge for webstore orders. Just look up the weight of an order in the tables (or in our online pricing tool), add $0.70 for each extra item in an order after the first, and you re good to go. We charge a 5% commission on webstore orders. We ve designed a cart and checkout setup that s simple to integrate and beautiful to use. Send your stuff to our warehouses, drop our buttons on your site, and we ll take care of the rest: payment processing, sales tax, customer service, and, of course, shipping. If you use Blackbox to power your webstore, we charge a commission equal to 5% of the order s subtotal on top of the base rate. Domestic orders are cheaper. Blackbox has warehouses in four countries: the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia. Orders that deliver to the same country they shipped from are called domestic orders and are always our best rates. Orders that cross borders are called international orders and cost a bit more. International orders from the UK are usually cheaper than international orders from the US, and rates for international orders from both the US and UK are organized under one set of common-sense global zones. 3
We use each warehouse s local currency. Orders that ship from the US, no matter where they re going, are always billed in USD. Likewise, orders that ship from the UK are always billed in GBP, orders from Canada are billed in CAD, and orders from Australia are billed in AUD. In this guide, we ve put handy estimated USD conversions next to each non-usd price, though remember that currency conversions change every day! You choose how much shipping your customers pay. If you use Blackbox Checkout to power your webstore, you decide how much of your Blackbox fees to pass on to your customers as the shipping charges they pay during checkout. You could pass on 100% and reduce your Blackbox fees to nothing, or you could pass on 0% and give customers free shipping, or you could pick anything inbetween (like splitting your Blackbox fees 50/50 with your customers). You can set different percentages for different regions, and you can also create free shipping thresholds, where customers get free shipping only if they spend more than a certain amount. With this, you get fine-tuned control over your Blackbox costs. We charge really simple monthly storage fees. At the end of each month, we add up the number of units you have in our warehouses around the world, multiply that by the volume of each unit, and charge $1.00 for each 5,000 cu/in of stuff. That s it! There are no hidden fees. This pricing guide contains every fee Blackbox will ever charge you: base fulfillment rates, storage fees, customized packaging fees, and freight handling fees. There are no account fees or other undisclosed processing fees. What you see here is what you get. 4
Domestic Orders Domestic orders are orders that ship from and deliver to the same country. Blackbox currently offers domestic service within the US, UK, Canada, and Australia. To get these rates, you ll need to keep inventory in Blackbox warehouses in each country. These rates are inclusive of shipping, handling, packaging, and customer service, and include a 100% delivery guarantee. If we ship a package and it doesn t arrive, we ll refund your Blackbox fees for the order and ship any necessary replacements for free. Webstore orders from Blackbox Checkout widgets are also charged a 5% commission fee. If someone buys two copies of a $20 item, we ll charge a $2 commission (5% * $40). This covers costs related to payment processing, inventory management, and customer service. Freight Order Handling Fees Sometimes you ll need to send several complete cases or pallets of your stuff to a conference or to a wholesale buyer as a single, heavy shipment. Blackbox is able to handle these types of orders on an individual basis for a substantially lower per-pound price than regular orders, but since our shipping cost varies widely by the precise origin and destination of each order, we can t publish shipping rates in a PDF. Storage & SKU Fees Blackbox has no account fees or other hidden fees, but we do have to bill you for storage! We ve reduced our storage fees to a simple formula based on your total global inventory at the end of each month. We don t care how your stuff comes packaged or how many pallets you use. We bill for storage exclusively based on the total product volume of all your stuff across all our warehouses. Packaging & Add-on Fees By default, Blackbox orders ship in well-made, attractive blue boxes and padded bags designed to withstand a lot of craziness during shipping while still being easy for our warehouses to assemble and pack. This packaging is included for free in all regular Blackbox rates. For large projects, we can work with you to design custom packaging, either using the same materials as our standard Blackbox boxes or something else.
