The American Hospital Dubai has recently acquired a state-ofthe-art computerized tomography (CT) scanner that houses a variety of intelligent and industry-leading technologies. This pioneering move has set a new record as the first hospital in the entire Middle East region to own this cutting-edge medical equipment. In an innovative move, the hospital acquired the Toshiba Aquilion One Genesis 640-slice CT scanner - the world s first dynamic volume area detector CT system, adding to its growing list of advanced and progressive medical equipments. Adding the Genesis Edition to the Medical Imaging Department is part of the American Hospital Dubai s strategic plan to deliver enhanced healthcare to the people of the UAE and the wider MENA region. The Genesis Edition has undergone an evolution, placing the machine in an entirely different league to the conventional dynamic volume CT. SPECIFICATIONS The Genesis Edition has an in-built patient-centric design. One of its unique features includes flared gantry, which provides an accommodating space for an improved patient experience. In times of trauma or interventional procedures, patients can be easily placed and removed from the front and rear of the gantry. 1
The Genesis Edition has brought standard imaging to a new level of detail and low contrast resolution. Using an optimized beam spectrum based on PUREViSION Optics, an exceptional balance between image quality and radiation dose has been achieved. The machine is powered by FIRST, the world s first volumetric Model Based Iterative Reconstruction (MBIR). This is fully integrated into its scan protocols. The CT scanner offers 320 detector rows (640 slices) capable of capturing clear images of most organs, such as the heart and the brain in a single 0.275-second rotation. It also features an advanced image reconstruction technique that results in a reduced radiation dose of up to 85 percent.
