SOS A STEP FORWARD IN OVERSEEDING SOS Turf-Annual ryegrasses from Barenbrug offer unique solutions to fall overseeding challenges. With three generations of Turf-Annuals available, budget, on-site requirements and turf quality can be mixed and matched to meet your project s needs. HIGH QUALITY TURF WITH CUSTOMIZED TRANSITION Traditionally, overseeding has been done using either common annual ryegrass or perennial ryegrass. Both options have benefits as well as significant problems. Perennial ryegrass provides strong turf quality, but turf density and persistence during spring transition competes with spring growth and the recovery of bermudagrass. The options are the use of expensive herbicide applications to speed transition or combining both rising temperatures with maintenance practices to minimize the perennial. Intermediate ryegrasses were also introduced in the late 80s as the Transition Solution. However, with costs comparable to perennial, their poor turf quality and color limited their use and success. Annual ryegrass provides economy, fast establishment and quick natural transition but extremely poor turf quality. Very light green in color, coarser leaf texture, excessive growth and little traffic tolerance are but some of the problems associated with annual ryegrass. SOS 400 on a soccer field in Texas Barenbrug now provides a third option with its SOS Brand of Turf-Annual mixtures. Offered as 100% Turf- Annual mixes or in combination with Perennial rye or RPR (Regenerating Perennial Ryegrass), SOS Turf- Annuals provide economy, turf quality, transition and solutions to challenging conditions: job site, weather and use. Advantages and Disadvantages to Ryegrass Varieties Perennial Ryegrass Annual Ryegrass (+) (+) (+) (-) (-) (-) Species Turf Predictable Quick Persistent Requires Costly Quality Transition Establishment Herbicides Turf-Type Annual Ryegrass

SOS FEATURES SUPERIOR BREEDING When discussing annual ryegrass for overseeding, most turf managers think of Gulf annual (1958: Texas). However, in cooperation with Texas A&M, Barenbrug USA changed the annual ryegrass discussion in 2006 with our introduction of Panterra Turf-Annual and the SOS Brand of Turf-Annual Ryegrass. Ten years later, in 2016, Barenbrug s SOS Brand now features four turf-annual ryegrasses spanning three generations of turf-annual selection. Significant improvements in turf quality now afford the turf manager a wide-range of quality, performance and price. Higher priced intermediate ryegrasses can t compete with the faster establishment, superior predictable spring transition and affordability of SOS Turf-Annuals. Perennial ryegrasses provide excellent turf quality, but have slower establishment, significant added cost and extreme competition with bermudagrass during the critical spring transition. SOS Turf-Annuals are the far superior choice. SOS 211 on the left and intermediate ryegrass on the right SOS BREEDING Since the introduction of Panterra, Barenbrug s researchers have continued to develop new and improved turf-type annuals including: Panterra (2006) Panterra V (2009) Barterra (2012) Terrabar (2013) BarTerra on the left vs Golf Annual on the right Now available in mixes with perennial ryegrasses and Regenerating Perennial Ryegrass (RPR) for the most versatile program of turf-annual ryegrasses offered to the overseeding market.

SOS BRAND MIES FOR OVERSEEDING STEP 1 IDENTIFY YOUR OVERSEEDING NEEDS Awareness of climate, site requirements, performance needs, budget and equipment availability are keys in identifying which SOS mixture best suits your turf area. KEY FACTORS INCLUDE: Traffic tolerance Speed of establishment / Facility availability Speed of transition / Spring persistence Turf Quality / Important or Secondary Budget STEP 2 CHOOSE THE DESIRED SOS MI SOS 400: Featuring Panterra and/or Panterra V for fast establishing, economical overseeding of warm season turf. SOS MA: Featuring Barterra and/or Terrabar for rapid establishment and the finest in Turf-Annual turf quality SOS 211: Featuring 50% Panterra V and 50% perennial ryegrass for quick establishment, improved turf quality and stronger spring persistence. SOS MA with RPR: Featuring Barterra and/or Terrabar with 50% RPR for fast establishment and superior traffic tolerance throughout the overseeding months and early spring. Ideal for high traffic situations, including soccer fields, baseball infields, lacrosse goal areas, cart path entrance and exits. SOS Maxx, Saddle Creek Golf Club, Lewisburg TN PLANTING RECOMMENDATIONS: SOS Brand Turf-Annuals will germinate with soil temps in the mid-40 s F. This allows for successful overseeding results for late season renovation after the playing season has ended. Late season renovation provides field protection for winter and early spring practice and play. SUGGESTED OVERSEEDING RATES: All SOS products should be seeded at rates comparable to traditional perennial ryegrass overseeding rates. Golf 10-15 lbs per 1,000 sq. feet Sports Turf 15 lbs per 1000 sq. feet Landscape 10 lbs per 1000 sq. feet Low maint. turf 8 lbs per 1000 sq. feet SOS Brand mixes compared to annual and perennial ryegrass SOS 400 SOS MA SOS 211 SOS MA w. SEED PRODUCTION OF SOS MITURES Historically, the seed production of annual ryegrass was down, dirty and cheap with little incentive for seed growers to produce clean, quality seed. With the introduction of the SOS Brand, Barenbrug was determined to change this production image by offering seed growers high yielding turf-annuals and the incentive to produce high quality seed with strong purity and genetic integrity. With strong acreage commitments and long term contracts, Barenbrug s SOS Turf-Annuals are produced on clean fields and never following common annual ryegrasses. The end result is clean quality SOS overseeded turf with strong performance at an economical cost. Overseed for year-round playability. Tony Leonard, Head Groundskeeper Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, PA SOS Maxx overseeded on Bermudagrass at Rose-Hulman school in Terre Haute, IN WHAT OTHERS SAY ABOUT SOS - SUPER OVERSEEDING SOS has proven to be a high quality product. Below is just a sample of the many satisfied users: Philadelphia Eagles, PA Visalia Country Club, CA Diamante Country Club, Hot Spring Village, AR Meadow Lake Golf Course, Enid, OK Woodhaven Country Club, Fort Worth, T West Palm Beach Golf Course, FL Boulder Creek Golf Club, NV SOS has the same turf quality as perennial ryegrass, transitions much better and is a smart, economical alternative. Auburn Heights Apartment Complex, Bakersfield, California SOS in Texas on a Residential lawn

BENEFITS OF SOS - SUPER OVERSEEDING Predictable spring transition The best in turf-annual performance Wide range of mixtures for performance and turf quality Extremely high traffic tolerance Chemical transition unnecessary Fast germ and establishment Germ and growth with cooler late season overseeding Strong competition against most weeds, including Poa annua Economically priced when compared to perennial and intermediate ryegrasses I had fantastic results from SOS Maxx. It gave me a thick stand of turf that did not require excess mowing like other annual rye I had previously used. It had a deep green color that would rival any perennial rye grass planted on neighboring fields.
