1. COPPER BOX THE JOURNEY SO FAR Over the last 12 months, members of London Citizens have been involved in a listening campaign involving thousands of conversations about London s housing crisis. Through action and negotiation with the next Mayor of London, it is our aim to turn these stories of private pain into public gain. On April 28 th, the two main candidates for Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan (Labour) and Zac Goldsmith (Conservative) will respond to asks on the Living Wage; Refugee Welcome and Jobs. Housing will form the main part of the Assembly, and candidates will answer to our Housing Manifesto. The Manifesto is born out of stories of the impact London s housing crisis on families and institutions in our membership. It was refined with the help of housing experts and shaped by the London Leadership Group which is made up of leaders from our membership. Prior to the Assembly, this team met with Sadiq Khan and Zac Goldsmith to negotiate around our asks. As Citizens, we seek to build a relationship with the next Mayor of London because we believe that democracy goes beyond voting every four or five years. We have a proud history of holding people in power to account. 2. AGENDA ON THE DAY We are organised people with a plan. 7. RULES OF ENGAGEMENT AND ETHOS Please DO - Clap and show support when your alliance is formally called during the Roll Call - Support speakers on the stage by being quiet and respectful when they are speaking - Remain silent while our chairs pin politicians on the agenda to create extra tension - Listen carefully to what the politicians are committing to and celebrate when we make progress on specific elements of our agenda - Clap when the candidates say 'Yes' to our asks - Remain silent if the candidates say 'No' to our asks - Stay for the evaluation at the end to help us learn and improve our work Please DO NOT - Heckle, boo, hiss or jeer - Cheer for political point scoring - Cheer for your political party, everyone will have their opinions but are acting together as a non-partisan organisation - Talk during the performances or speeches We will be operating a Zero Tolerance to heckling and booing Anyone breaking this rule will be asked to leave the Assembly Why you should follow the rules: We are a non-partisan organisation and are here to make sure we get promises on our asks from both parties, as we want to ensure that no matter who gets elected we are improving the lives of Londoners. We've worked hard over the last 12 months to get to where we are and we want to make sure the politicians take us seriously. Although we may disagree with a candidate, heckling would ruin our relationship with that candidate and impact our work with them in future. It would also make it difficult to get candidates from that party to come to our future events. A huge amount of work has gone into this thousands of people listened to, hundreds of turnout captains working to engage people from their communities, 6,000 people here. Please respect the hard work of our members. 100,000 has been spent on this event from the membership dues of the people in the room. Let s make sure this investment is put to good use. In the past the press have focused on the story of the hecklers and not the success of the event and the issues that matter. 4

9. FAQs Who are London Citizens? An alliance of 220 member organisations from Citizens alliances in North, South, East and West London. How did London Citizens decide on the agenda? Over the past year through thousands of individual and group meetings, listening to the issues that affect people in our communities. Housing was identified as a priority, alongside Living Wage, Jobs, and Citizenship and Integration Will I be able to ask question to the Candidates? No. Our Agenda has been prepared in advance with input from our London Citizens Leadership Group. What you ll hear on the day is public commitments which have already been discussed in negotiations with both candidates How will the Assembly be structured? There will be four Acts: Act One will be an introduction; Act Two will focus on three of our core campaigns and hear the candidates responses; Act Three will focus on Housing; Act Four will focus on what s next. How long will each candidate speak for? They will be invited to speak for two minutes to introduce themselves and pitch why they are the person to vote for. They will have three minutes to respond to our core campaigns before being questioned in detail by our team of leaders. How will we ensure the candidates are specific? After their speeches, the candidates will be asked by our stage team to clarify their position on any our agenda if they have not been clear Why are you only inviting two candidates? We have invited the only two candidates who have a real chance of being the next Mayor of London. This is a decision of the London Citizens Leadership Group made up of our members. Will I be able to sit with people from my institution? Yes as long as you get there early enough to do so and you arrange to travel together. We advise you aim to get there for 5.30-6.30pm. 6
