Our mission At EcoCortec we are continually improving and expanding our facilities, equipment, processes, and ourselves to meet our customer s needs and expectations for consistent high quality films and bags delivered on time. FIRST CROATIAN BIOPLASTICS PLANT EcoCortec, in Beli Manastir, Croatia, specializes in manufacturing Cortec s innovative Vapor phase Corrosion Inhibitor (VpCI ) films and offers customers complete converting, extruding, and printing capabilities. Located on a 10,000 square meter site, this facility is in an excellent geo-strategic location. Situated in Central Eastern Europe, our plant can be reached by truck, railway, the river Danube, and by air. EcoCortec is positioned on a crossroad of state highways and is only 3 km away from trans-european corridor C5. EcoCortec manufactures films and bags according to customer specifications in terms of the product size and performance. We are very flexible when it comes to the order size and meeting special customer requests for just in time deliveries. At present, we have 3 extruders which consist of: - one 3-layer (co-extruded) blown film line - two mono blown film line - two color inline printing capabilities - inline bag on the roll (BOR) EcoCortec also has sideweld and bottomweld converting machines for making bags, including a zip-lock bag machine, which can be of different designs, offline BOR (bag making machine on the roll) and individual bags, a film rewinder machine and recycling machine allow us to eliminate waste from our production process. Awards CROPAK 2006, the Croatian prize for the best package CROPAK was founded in 2004. Organized by the Institute for Packaging and Graphic Arts Industry, Packaging, Graphic Arts Industry trade journal and Tectus d.o.o., CROPAK 2006 awards and diplomas for best packaging in Croatia were awarded in 5 categories on May 18th 2006 at Plitvice Lakes National Park. The ECOCROPAK category focuses on ecological packaging, machine or equipment for waste packaging management, and a project for packaging and waste packaging management. Cortec was one of 37 nominated in five different categories. Eco- Cortec was awarded the CROPAK 2006 Eco Packaging Award for its innovative biodegradable EcoWork bags & films and the CROPAK 2006 A Project for Packaging & Waste Packaging Management Award for its EcoCortec plant in Beli Manastir, Croatia. In 2006 EcoCortec also recieved a certificate of biodegradibility for its Eco Works line of film, issued by the Food Control Center of the Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology in Zagreb.
Biodegradable & Compostable Packaging Films Cortec has pioneered two technologies of biodegradable and compostable films, Eco Film and Eco Works. Both Eco Film and Eco Works offer a certified biodegradable alternative to polyethylene films and bags while still offering performance characteristics superior to both low and high density poly films. Both product lines were designed with their entire lifecycle in mind. Eco Film and Eco Works can also be combined with VpCI technology (Eco Corr ) and ESD protection (Eco Corr ESD). We are also able to coat adhesives on Eco products (Eco Wrap ). All of these innovative and patented products offer the most extensive biodegradable packaging lineup in the world. Eco Film and Eco Works are available in a range of sizes and forms, as well as in retail packs and boxes. Extruding The first step in manufacturing films is the extrusion process, where raw resin is processed into film. Our blown film extrusion line can produce flat tubing, gusseted tubing, single wound sheeting, centerfold sheeting, and other custom configurations. Color concentrates, VpCI, and other specialized additives such as static dissipative, flame retardant, and ultraviolet inhibitors can all be added to the formulations to precisely attain our customer s individual needs. EcoCortec is capable of extruding linear low blends of up to 100%. The size ranges from 100mm minimum lay flat width up to 2150mm maximum width, depending on the film configuration and the film thickness.
Laboratory EcoCortec has a world-class laboratory that can perform testing compliant to Military Specifications (MIL-STD 3010) and ASTM standards (Section 8 series D). All VpCI film batches are tested for Vapor phase Corrosion Inhibitor (VpCI ) ability. A Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) Spectrometer is used to examine VpCI and other additive concentrations. Mechanical properties and coefficient of friction are measured with an Instron precision instrument. Water vapor transmission and Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) rates are determined using a desiccant chamber designed for 0% RH. ESD films are manufactured in compliance with Military Specification MIL-PRF-81705D. Each ESD production order is tested on-site for static decay and surface resistivity. Static decay testing complies with Federal standard 101 Method 4046. Surface Resistivity exceeds ESD S 11.11 specifications. Custom VpCI films are also developed and tested on site. Specific strengths, tear resistance, tackiness, and slip qualities can all be formulated according to the customer s needs. Converting In our converting department the film is fabricated into bags in a wide variety of sizes, shapes, and styles for packaging foods, equipment, hardware, spare parts, and just about anything else you require. Specialized tooling enables us to manufacture unique bags such as V-sealed contour, or other custom designs. Many different shapes and sizes of holes can be punched for venting, hanging, or carrying products. We are well equipped to manufacture the hem reinforced handle, draw tape handle, and the popular bag-on-roll and zip lock bags. This department solves packaging requirements with creativity and experience.
Printing Our printing department produces some of the most appealing packaging films available. We can print films from 1000 mm to 1830 mm wide in two colors. By using varying halftones we can obtain numerous shading effects as well. Regranulation The production process is completed with the waste technology recycling facility, which is integral part of the film production process. In this facility, we are able to ensure the purity of the material that returns to the manufacturing process and have completely eliminated disposal of film into the environment.
New equipment The continuous expansion of production and new equipment procurement is never truly completed. Establishing a stronger market presence requires acquisitions of new equipment with different capacities. We have released into our operating process a new line of extrusion after the testing period was completed. New production hall EcoCortec has entered the second phase of its planned production and construction. Earlier plans predicted an additional production hall. The project for the building of this additional production hall of 1.600 m² of usable space is in the final stages and the investment itself is over 3.000.000 EUR. The new production hall will have the space for three new extrusion lines, branding of VpCI paper and storage of Cortec chemical products.
Production expansion Along with the new upgrade to production facilities we are also currently in the process of acquiring a new extrusion machine with higher capacity. Targeted width of the film will be from 1500mm to 3000 mm with thicknesses ranging from 30-200 microns. In addition to the new extrusion machine in the new production hall, we will also warehouse Bionetix biological products. Bionetix International, a Canadian company in the ownership of Cortec Corporation is in the business of manufacturing microbial based bio-products. These microbial and enzyme bio-products are used in countless applications in the United States, Europe, Asia and South America. This project will bridge the great distance between Canada and Europe making us more competitive in the demanding European market. Peach Hill Eco-Farm Beautiful Peach Hill eco-farm is located in the heart of Baranja s intact nature, not far from the EcoCortec plant. This rich natural oasis abounds in varieties of organic fruits and vegetables. We are particularly proud of the cultivation of peaches, whose juciness is well known all over Baranja and beyond. Environmental awareness is highest when it comes to fruits and vegetables, because in most cases, it is consumed directly and without processing. Precisely because of this we operate in accordance with nature while relying on renewable energy sources on our Peach Hill eco-farm and EcoCortec plant. In cooperation with the local community we promote environmental habits and a lifestyle that excludes the use of pesticides, harmful emissions, and other pollution to which people are increasingly exposed in today s modern way of life.
