Page 1 LUXAPOOL CHLORINATED RUBBER POOL COATING POOLS PREVIOUSLY PAINTED WITH CHLORINATED RUBBER SURFACE PREPARATION 1. Using a stiff brush or broom, scrub the entire surface with diluted LUXAPOOL Concentrated Wash (mixed at a ratio of 500mL Concentrated Wash to 20L of warm water). This removes greasy contaminants such as sun creams, oils, body fats, etc. Pay particular attention to step areas and corners where oil accumulation may occur. Upon completion thoroughly rinse the pool with clean water to remove all traces of LUXAPOOL Concentrated Wash. Allow to dry thoroughly. 2. Ensure that the surface to be painted is Chlorinated Rubber paint. Check this by placing a rag dampened with Chlorinated Rubber Solvent CRS, or acetone, onto the surface and then rubbing vigorously for approximately one minute. If the existing coating becomes sticky to touch it is probably Chlorinated Rubber. (If the coating does not become sticky then it is not chlorinated rubber - do not proceed any further; refer to Colormaker Industries for further instructions). 3. With the pool surface dry, thoroughly abrade the entire existing coating with medium-grade sandpaper using a disc or orbital sander. This allows the surface a good mechanical key for the re-coat. Failure to abrade properly may lead to a loss of adhesion of the subsequent coat. Vacuum or collect all dust residues. Finally wipe the surface with a rag dampened with Chlorinated Rubber Solvent CRS to remove any traces of dust. 4. Starting with a dry surface, repair all surface imperfections using an appropriate repair system (contact Colormaker Industries for further details). Allow any repairs to fully cure and then sand back flush to a smooth surface. 5. Significantly large areas of exposed cement render should be treated as an unpainted cement render pool. Before painting, these areas should first be prepared according to the directions provided in the following ACID ETCHING section. 6. Over a well-etched, clean and dry surface, spot prime a thinned coat of LUXAPOOL Chlorinated Rubber to any areas of exposed cement render, using 5% Chlorinated Rubber Solvent CRS to thin the paint. This spot prime step will assist in improving adhesion of the topcoat by penetrating deeper into the porous cement render, and will also help to even out the gloss and surface profile of the final coat. 7. The previously painted surface is now prepared and ready to topcoat. Refer PAINTING THE POOL.

Page 2 BARE CEMENT RENDER POOLS SURFACE PREPARATION 1. For old cement render pools only: Use a stiff brush or broom to scrub the entire surface with diluted LUXAPOOL Concentrated Wash (mixed at a ratio of 500mL Concentrated Wash to 20L of warm water). 2. For old and new cement render pools: Acid etch the entire surface of the bare cement render pool according to the directions given in the following section on ACID ETCHING. 3. Starting with a clean, well etched and dry surface, repair all surface imperfections using an appropriate repair system (contact Colormaker Industries for further details). Allow any repairs to fully cure and then sand back flush to the surface. The finish of any repairs should have a rough texture before topcoating. 4. Over a well-etched, clean and dry surface, apply a thinned primer coat of LUXAPOOL Chlorinated Rubber to any areas of exposed cement render, using 5% Chlorinated Rubber Solvent CRS to thin the paint. This primer step will assist in improving adhesion of the topcoat by penetrating deeper into the porous cement render, and will also help to even out the gloss and surface profile of the final coat. 5. The bare cement surface is now prepared and ready to topcoat. Refer PAINTING THE POOL.

Page 3 ACID ETCHING 1. All personnel participating in acid etching must wear protective clothing, rubber gloves, boots and goggles. The etching solution should ALWAYS be mixed in a plastic bucket. Use commercial Hydrochloric or Muriatic Acid. NEVER ADD WATER TO ACID; always add acid to water. ACID CONCENTRATION FOR NEW CEMENT RENDER WATER ACID 2 Parts 1 Part ACID CONCENTRATION FOR OLD CEMENT RENDER WATER ACID 3 Parts 1 Part 2. Using a plastic watering can, apply the etching solution to the surface, a small area at a time. Immediately scrub the entire surface with a NYLON broom. As soon as the bubbling reaction stops (approximately 5-15 minutes), flush the entire area with fresh water. NEVER ALLOW THE ACID RESIDUE TO DRY ON THE SURFACE. Acid residue can cause paint failure. Proceed to the next section to be treated with the acid-etching solution. The surface, when etched correctly, should have a rough, sandpapery feel to the touch. It is important to concentrate on a small, workable, section at a time. This will ensure that no acid residue is deposited onto the surface. 3. After the entire pool has been etched thoroughly, the surface must be neutralised with a solution of Bicarbonate of Soda and Water (1 kg of Bicarbonate of Soda mixed with 10 litres of warm water). Thoroughly flush the surface with the neutralising solution and then flush liberally with fresh water. It is important to concentrate on a small, workable, section at a time. This will ensure that no bicarbonate of soda is deposited onto the surface. 4. Allow the pool surface to dry prior to any further surface preparation. Sweep or vacuum any loose residue.

Page 4 PAINTING THE POOL Application in excessively warm weather can be a causal factor for blistering problems in Chlorinated Rubber, and conversely, excessively cold weather does not provide appropriate curing conditions. Therefore, for best results it is recommended that application of LUXAPOOL Chlorinated Rubber be performed in moderate temperatures during autumn, late winter, or early spring. 1. Check that the batch numbers on all supplied pails of LUXAPOOL Chlorinated Rubber are identical. This is to ensure a uniformity of colour on your pool. Batch numbers can be found on the barcode label on the front of every can. Store the paint in a cool place out of direct sunlight when not in use. 2. Prior to painting, check the weather forecast. A minimum of three consecutive rain free days are necessary for the painting process. The incidence of rain during the painting process may contribute to surface defects or cause paint failure which will require additional surface preparation before successive coats can be applied. Defer painting if rain is expected. 3. Apply LUXAPOOL Chlorinated Rubber Coating early in the morning, ideally within the temperature range 15-25 0 C and with the relative humidity about 50%. NEVER PAINT IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT. If possible protect the pool with a cover such as a shade-cloth, or tarpaulin, to minimise direct sunlight for the entire painting process. Allow adequate airflow between the pool and the cover to exhaust solvent fumes during and after application. To minimise the possibility of blistering, always aim to paint when the sun will not heat the pool for approximately four hours after application. This allows all solvents to evaporate, thus limiting solvent entrapment and blistering due to rapid surface drying. 4. The pool surface must be thoroughly dry prior to painting. For best results, use a hygrometer to test surface moisture levels. Moisture content should be less than 5%; High moisture content can cause failure of the chlorinated rubber coating, or contribute to blistering issues. In the absence of a hygrometer, approximate surface moisture can be determined by taping a small patch of black plastic sheet to a small area of the floor of the pool in the morning one day prior to painting. Remove the plastic around mid-afternoon and observe the underside (the side touching the pool surface). IF THERE ARE DROPLETS OF WATER PRESENT ON THE PLASTIC THEN THE MOISTURE CONTENT IS TOO HIGH. DO NOT PAINT UNTIL THE POOL UNTIL THE SURFACE IS THOROUGHLY DRY. 5. Your pool will require three to four thin coats of LUXAPOOL Chlorinated Rubber Coating applied to a properly prepared surface. When painting, use a brush to cut in at the tile line. Use a medium nap roller to coat all large areas. Apply only thin coats, to the suggested spread rate of 7-9m² per L per coat. Application of thick coats can lead to run and sags, and subsequent blistering of the coating.

Page 5 6. If rain occurs between coats, drain off any ponded water as soon as possible. The surface MUST be thoroughly abraded prior to applying the next coat. Do not paint over a damp surface. This will result in blistering of the coating. 7. The longer a pool is allowed to dry prior to filling the better the ultimate coating quality and longevity. ALWAYS allow the coating to dry at least 10 DAYS IN SUMMER, and 14 DAYS IN WINTER, prior to filling the pool. If a coating has not had adequate drying time and is filled prematurely its colour and or appearance can be damaged. This is normally seen as cloudy, uneven colour distribution on the final coat. DO NOT add chemicals other than salt or chlorine for at least 3-5 days. 8. Maintain the coating and pool chemistry to in accordance with our GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR POOL CARE to maximise the wearing life of your coating.
