FAO Technical Cooperation Project Capacity building to support In-situ conservation and use of animal genetic resources New development in field of conservation of Animal Genetic Resources

OBJECTIVES 1. Support the development of a National Strategy for In-situ Conservation of AnGR and a National Action Plan 2. Build professional and technical capacity amongst key stakeholders to implement a National Strategy and National Action Plan 3. Establish a National Network to support implementation of National Action Plan 4. Provide recommendation for design of a appropriate legislative framework to support In-situ conservation of AnGR

Priority issues for the next few years Compiling the Strategy and National Action Plan of conservation, management and sustainable use of AnGR local breeds Building up the National Bank for Ex-situ in vivo & Krio conservation of rare breeds Compiling the National legislation on conservation, management and improvement of AnGR in the light of relevant international legal framework and EU legislations Building up the National Data- Base Preparing and present to different donors the projects for In-situ conservation of rare breeds like Prespa Cattle, Ilirian Dwarf cattle, Old Scutari pig (Spotted pig), goat breeds: Capore e Mokrres, Liqenasi, Hasi

NETWORKING Strengthening the collaboration` s capacities of Balkan Network Building up the sub networks with the participation of groups or associations of farmers for species and rare breeds. Organization and coordination of collaboration between members of Balkan Network and institutional representatives of each country, like National Coordinators of AnGR Preparation of a network of Rescue Stations Compiling the common projects

NETWORKING Increasing the joint activities Building up a PERMANENT FORUM of Balkan Network Organizing the periodic E/mail conferences during the September Editing and printing a Periodic News Letter Organizing the Balkan Symposium each two years.

Organizing and carried out a ROUND TABLE with participation of : Members of Balkan Network National Coordinators of AnGR from Balkan countries Objectives Strengthening the collaboration between Balkan Network and NC-s Expected output: Building up the role of NC-like a public institution, representative of respective government, in the strengthening the capacities of Balkan Network Topics: Dissemination of good In-situ practices of rare breeds Development of the Common Approach for the conservation and sustainable use of rare breeds like a potential factor for development of Agrotourizm Time and Place: November, 2006, Tirana, Albania Organizer: Albania&ERPF SAVE Foundation
