METAL DETECTORS METAL DETECTORS Metal detectors are specialized electronic devices that detect and mark the presence of any kind of metal (magnetic and nonmagnetic) impurities during the production process. Metal detectors are useful in a variety of fields in industry (wood industry, mines, plastics processing, food processing, glass, paper, recycling, etc., especially various processing industries), where metal particles disturb the production process or influence the product's quality and usability. Construction of metal detectors enables them to be used in various circumstances and conditions: in conjunction with a conveyor belt, in conjunction with a vibrating conveyor mechanism, with free falling materials, in pumped or vacuum transport systems MDR's metal detectors ensure: very high level of detection and separation of metallic impurities, state of the art technology, problem solving orientation, user friendliness, adaptation to customer's needs, minimal product loss.

METAL DETECTORS Metal detectors are used to discover all kinds of metal impurities during the production process. Discovering metal impurities in heavy industry (mines, quarries, recycling, wood industry, ) is important for protecting the following processing procedure, where metal particles impair the production quality or disturb the production. Metal detectors in heavy industry have the following common properties: detection of magnetic and nonmagnetic particles, high sensitivity, stability and precision, minimal number of false detections due to embedded analog and digital filters, automatic calibration for several years of stable operating, ability to detect the length of a metal impurity precise manual or automatic product compensation (self-learning), possibility of entering 30 different product settings, transparent and user friendly multi level menus, password protected critical settings, easy replacement of the power supply or processing module in case of malfunction, possibility of printing messages using the RS232 or RS485 communication, possibility of following detections or setting basic parameters on a PC using the RS232, RS485 or Ethernet communication, easy installation, removal and cleaning, casing made of high quality construction steel, possibility of marking the impurity, adaptation to customer s needs. METAL DETECTORS MARKING DEVICE MN-1 Metal detector is successful in locating the metal impurity if the conveyor belt is under a constant strain and thus has a constant stopping distance. If that is not the case the stopping distance varies and the product must be supervised over a greater distance which leads to the loss of time. In that case a marking device that drops a bag filled with sand over the metal impurity can be used and the impurity is easily located. METAL DETECTOR SAND BAG CONVEYOR BELT

MAGNETIC SEPARATORS OVERBELT ELECTROMAGNETIC SEPARATORS TYPE MST Overbelt electromagnetic separators are used above the conveyor systems. They are appropriate mostly for discharging large ferromagnetic impurities from materials such as coal, stone and wood. Overbelt electromagnetic separators require direct electrical current to function (it is provided by an electro cabinet). The cabinet contains controllers adapted to technological process and user s requirements. Main advantage of electromagnets beside their strength and robustness is the ability to switch them on and off and the possibility of setting the strength of the magnetic field. The implementation where the metal detector controls the separator is also interesting. MAGNETIC SEPARATORS THE OPERATION AND INSTALLATION OF AN ELECTROMAGNETIC SEPARATOR An electromagnetic separator consists of an electric magnet, structural frame, ejection conveyor with drive and power supply equipment. The separator is designed to separate ferromagnetic foreign particles from the transported material or to mutually separate more and less magnetic materials (upgrading of iron ore, elimination of slag). The separator should be mounted as close as possible to the material on the conveyor belt. Only in this configuration, its magnetic field can efficiently separate ferromagnetic foreign particles. Depending on the speed of the conveyor belt, the separator can be mounted transversally above the belt or longitudinally above the discharge end. The transversal mounting is suitable for conveyor belt speeds up to 2 m/s. With higher speeds, electromagnetic separator must be mounted longitudinally above the discharge end. In such a case, it is important that the separator be mounted tangentially above the material free fall curve. The higher the transported material speed, the larger shall be the separator distance from the discharge point. Irrespective of the mounting arrangement, the electromagnetic field area shall not be penetrated by any ferromagnetic component of the structure.

MAGNETIC SEPARATORS THE EFFICIENCY AND CONTROL OF AN ELECTROMAGNETIC SEPARATOR Since not only technological, but also economic efficiency is important, it is reasonable to combine the electromagnetic separator with a metal detector, which should be installed upstream. The detector only switches the separator magnet on when a ferromagnetic foreign body is detected. Thus, the power consumption for the magnet is notably decreased, yet, when required, generates the maximum intensity magnetic field, which, in the case of continuous operation, could not be achieved; furthermore, this extends the service life of the whole electromagnetic separator For a really effective protection of technical equipment, detection of non-magnetic metal foreign particles is also essential. This can be achieved by installing, downstream of the separation point, a detector which, in a case of the passage of a nonmagnetic metal particle, marks and/or stops the transport system. Nowadays, the disruption free and reliable operation of technical equipment is of growing importance; and this can be enhanced by effective monitoring and control. In the case of metal separators and detectors, it is important to monitor temperature, power, belt swelling, number of detection events... A means for this is a local network linked to a computer. Such overall system operation monitoring reduces the required extent of physical supervision. The overall transport system economic efficiency is thus enhanced.

MAGNETIC SEPARATORS OVERBELT ELECTROMAGNETIC SEPARATORS MSP TYPE MSP type overbelt electromagnetic separators have permanent magnets in their cores and therefore require electrical energy only to power the discharge belt. They are especially useful for automatic discharging of ferromagnetic particles in long term processes. Their advantages are among others: the magnetic core does not require power supply or electro cabinet, minimal maintenance, long life time of the magnetic field. ELECTROMAGNETIC SEPARATOR MSP

MAGNETIC SEPARATORS MAGNETIC DRUM Magnetic drum is intended for automatically discharging ferromagnetic impurities from the raw material or for enriching the ferromagnetic raw materials. It consists of a magnetic core that can be radial adjusted and of rotating casing. The stainless steel casing caries the ferromagnetic particles to the collection container. The drum is rotated by a drive groove on the flanges (G execution) or by a drive hum with relevant key (M execution). Magnetic drum is a very efficient separator due to the fact that it can separate both large and small ferromagnetic particles. OPERATING DIAGRAM MAGNETIC DRUM

MAGNETIC SEPARATORS MAGNETIC PULLEY Magnetic pulley has magnetic field over its entire circumference and is therefore appropriate for usage as a conveyor belt drive pulley. It provides excellent results when transporting flowing materials. Its use is especially recommended in situations where the transport speed is small and the layer of material on the belt is thin. PMP TYPE PERMANENT MAGNETIC PLATES PMP type permanent magnetic plates are simple and affordable magnets useful mostly in places where ferromagnetic impurities are not expected often. They can be cleaned manually or with a sliding or rotating plate. They do not require maintenance. An appropriate model can be selected, but weight and shape of a ferromagnetic impurity that will be removed must be considered along with the distance of the material from the plate.
