LISTED ACTIVITIES: Listing Notice 1 (R983): (9) The development of infrastructure exceeding 1000 metres in length for the bulk transportation of water or storm water (i) with an internal diameter of 0.36 metres or more; or (ii) with a peak throughout of 120 litres per second or more (10) The development and related operation of infrastructure exceeding 1000 metres in length for the bulk transportation of sewage, effluent, process water, waste water, return water, industrial discharge or slimes (i) with an internal diameter of 0.36 metres or more; or (ii) with a peak throughout of 120 litres per second or more (15) The development of structures in the coastal public properties where the development footprint is bigger than 50 square metres (17) Development (v) if no development setback exists, within a distance of 100 metres inland of the high water mark of the sea or estuary, whichever is greatest in respect of (e) buildings of 50 square metres or more or (f) infrastructure with a development footprint of 50 square metres or more (19 ) The infilling or depositing of any material of more than 5 cubic metres into, or the dredging, excavation, removal or moving of soil, sand, shells, shell grit, pebbles, rock of more than 5 cubic metres from (iii) the littoral active zone, an estuary or a distance of 100 metres inland of the high waters mark of the sea or an estuary, whichever distance is the greater (34) The expansion or changes to existing facilities for any process or activity where such expansion or changes will result in the need for a permit or licence or an amended permit or licence in terms of national or provincial legislation governing the release of emissions or pollution (41) The expansion and related operation of facilities, infrastructure or structures for aquaculture of (ii) molluscs and echinoderms where the annual production output of such a facility, infrastructure or structures will be increased by 20 000 kg (wet weight) or more (45) The expansion of infrastructure for the bulk transportation of water or storm water where the existing infrastructure (i) has an internal diameter of 0.36 metres or more; or (ii) has a peak throughput of 120 litres per second or more and (a) where the facility or infrastructure is expanded by more than 1000 metres in length or (b) where the throughput capacity of the facility or infrastructure will be increased by 10 % more (52) The expansion of structures in the coastal public property where the development footprint will be increased by more than 50 square metres (54) The expansion of facilities (v) if no development setback exists, within a distance of 100 metres inland of the high water mark of the sea or an estuary, whichever is greater in respect of (e) buildings where the building is expanded by 50 square metres or more or (f) infrastructure where the development footprint is expanded by 50 square metres or more

Number: 2012/009/WC/JACOBSBAAI SEA PRODUCTS WC Government EA&DP EIA Ref Number: 16/3/3/6/7/1/F4/6/3072/16 Description of Activity and Location: The discharge of approx. 700 litres per second of abalone farm effluent, into the sea, at the coastal surfzone section in close proximity to the abalone farm, coordinates 32 57.87 S, 17 52.95 E, currently takes place. The farm effluent is seawater which has passed through abalone tanks and thus contains some levels of dissolved and undissolved nutrients. This discharge is not a new activity and has been in place since 1995. The expansion of the abalone farm is proposed, along with a new effluent channel (Preferred Alternative 2) and therefore a new discharge point will be applicable. You are hereby notified that an amendment and / or General authorisation may be required for the existing CWDP should the preferred alternative, Alternative 2, for the proposed expansion of the abalone farm, be authorised by the Western Cape Government Environmental Affairs and Development Planning.
