Applications Applications for dissolved ozone in water are to be limited only by the imagination. There are so many uses for a truly green, chemical-free disinfectant dissolved in water that the challenge becomes; how can your business take advantage of the many benefits to be gained in almost every aspect of food-preparation, health care, water purification? The OZO-Pod 10, 50, and 1000 Ozone Water Generators consist of the ozone water generator, the power cable, and if required, any necessary power supplies. These devices are designed to be used with clear water of unknown safety. The units are fully immersed into the water and the power is applied. The Ozo-Pods immediately begin to produce almost microscopic bubbles of ozone gas. Unlike corona-arc ozone production technologies, which rely upon atmospheric oxygen to produce ozone, Roving Blue Ozo-Pods make ozone from the water itself, eliminating the need for air pumps, tubing and air stones. Our method puts ozone directly into the water, not bubbled through, as a result there is less ozone escaping into the air, which is hazardous to breathe in at high levels. The ozone stays in the water, where it does its work. When it reverts back to oxygen, the water is left highly oxygenated, a boon for aquaculture and other applications. This is an introductory document for the Roving Blue OZO-Pod Line of Compact Ozone Water Generators. Users should read and fully understand the contents in this document, before operating the sample generator. A general knowledge of the electrolytic physical/chemical processes of ozone generation is also recommended. Free general training may be found by registering under the Become a Partner link on our website. Ozone is an oxidizer that can disinfect, i.e., significantly reduce the number of pathogens such as bacteria or viruses, in the water. The ozone may also oxidize some dissolved inorganic contaminants, e.g., iron, manganese, which then may be filtered out of the water. The ozone may oxidize some organics, such as pesticides and herbicides. Overview The Roving Blue OZO-Pod makes water safe to drink by using dissolved ozone as a sanitation agent. Ozone, or O3, is the most powerful oxidizer available that can be safely used in water treatment. Ozone is a strong oxidant that is widely recognized as a biocide and has the ability to achieve more than 99.9% pathogen kill rates. Treatment with ozone is a proven and long-accepted method for disinfecting drinking water. Users of ozone technology include municipal water treatment plants, water bottling companies, hospitals and hotels. In 1997, the FDA approved the use of ozone as an anti-microbial agent with indirect contact with foods. In 2002, the FDA approved ozone for use on food contact areas and directly on food with its Generally Regarded as Safe (GRAS) designation. Today, the Organic Foods Production Act (OFPA) identifies aqueous ozone (ozone dissolved in water) as a substance that is allowed for use in organic crop and livestock production. Ozone has been shown to be effective in a variety of drinking water applications including: Disinfection, iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn) reduction, hydrogen sulfide removal and taste and odor reduction. Ozone can also reduce formation of disinfection by-products such as trihalomethanes (THMs) and halo acetic acids (HAAs).

Ozonation is effective for removal of difficult to treat pathogens such as giardia and cryptosporidium. The amount of O3 generated by the Ozo-Pod will vary depending on water temperature, chemistry, conductivity and ph. Theory of Operation Ozone is a form of oxygen. Oxygen is normally a gas, O2. Ozone is O3, also a gas. Ozone forms naturally from ultraviolet (UV) light and corona discharge, e.g., lightning. Ozone will oxidize other materials or revert to O2. Electrolysis is a method of using direct electric current to drive an otherwise non-spontaneous chemical reaction. The Compact Ozone Generator uses electrolysis to separate water (H2O) molecules into Hydrogen (H2) and Oxygen (O2 and O3 ozone). Our exact method of producing the ozone is a trade secret at this time. Users should consider having a timer to control the duration of the water purification cycle. Custom Applications: Users who desire a custom-designed system may take advantage of Roving Blue s quick turnaround and low-cost custom design program. How to Use the Ozo-Pod 10 Ozone Water Generator Sample The Ozone Water Generator has to be fully immersed in the source water. The cable connecting the ozone water generator to the On/Off switch is waterproof. The current design of the ozopod line is for tap water. If very pure RO water is used that has very low TDS, the ozo-pod will not be able to work efficiently, as the water will be low in conductivity. Consider adding in minute amounts of other substances to bring TDS to near 50. For the Ozo-Pod 10, the container should hold a volume of 1-10 liters. Turn on the switch to activate only after the ozone water generator is fully immersed in the water. The ozone water generator will then start producing ozone, which is verified by noting the gas bubbles in the water (see Figure 3). There will be the smell of ozone, which one should avoid breathing. The power should be applied for ~ 0.5 minute to 1 minute per liter, for a maximum of 10 minutes for 10 liters. This time specified is required to produce the desired 1 to 3 PPM of ozone per liter of tap water. The actual concentration measured, including all ions, may be more than 6 PPM, depending on the characteristics of the tap water and the power applied time. Although as little as.025 PPM is all that is required for most disinfection needs, a higher concentration of ozone and other ions has no adverse effects. The container holding the tap water should be made of substances that do not react with ozone, such as stainless steel or glass. Plastics can be used, however depending on the intensity of use, some plastics will degrade or become brittle when in contact with ozone; endusers should test applications and determine longevity of the container for themselves. The container should be ventilated or used in a ventilated area when using ozone generators to avoid build-up of ozone and hydrogens that are released in the process. When not in use, the Compact Ozone Water Generator should be unpowered and stored in a clean, dry area. Initial Use Procedure. For the initial use 1. Fully immerse the ozone water generator in enough water to fully cover the entire unit. 2. Apply power for 2 to 3 minutes. This operation removes the protective coating on the electrodes. Turn off the power when the cycle is complete. 3. Once the initial use cycle is complete, dispose of (do not use) the initial cleaning water. Maintenance of the Electrodes Water often contains minerals such as calcium carbonate. These minerals will accumulate on the electrodes (primarily the cathode) and will cause the electrolysis process to slow down.

When the generation of ozone water appears weak (or as measured by an ozone concentration meter), clean the electrodes at least once a year as follows: 1. Prepare a solution of tap water and regular kitchen vinegar (at a ratio of 5 to 1 water to vinegar). 2. Dip the whole body of the ozone water generator into this solution for 10 minutes. Do NOT apply power. 3. Rinse the Ozone Water Generator with tap water. After cleaning the electrodes, normal production will resume. Other Important Notes Do not dismantle or otherwise tamper with the Compact Ozone Water Generator. Please handle with care. Use filtered or tap water only. Keep in a dry, safe place when not in use. Do not immerse the power supply or On/Off switch in water. Warranty This warranty is effective only if purchased through an authorized distributor or dealer. The warranty is for 1 year from the date of sale or 2000 hours of operation. Warranty will be voided if the product has been tampered with. Please contact your authorized distributor/dealer for a defective product or any questions. In case the product is defective during the warranty period and with proper use, the defective product will be replaced with a new product, subject to the User shipping back the defective product. End users will waive claims for any liability damage from improper use of the OZO-Pod and OZO-flow line of ozone water generators. Specifications: (non-circulating system), one minute = 1 PPM dissolved ozone in these quantities. Longer operation time = greater quantities possible, circulation adds further capability.
