Framework for DPR Published by WateReuse (2015) Sponsors: WateReuse, AWWA, and WEF Developed by an NWRI Expert Panel Available at www.watereuse.org

Panel Process Panel: Partnership with SqCWD SqCWD determines scope Mainly technical and scientific, but also policy Overarching goal: Protection of public health Independent, credible, 3 rd party review Provide guidance and advise NWRI role: administer the panel 7

Panel Meeting SqCWD develops presentations and materials Interactive discussions with panel members Regulators are invited to participate Use of closed (panel only) sessions 8

Panel Outcomes Panel reports: Concise list of Findings and Recommendations Reflect a consensus of the panel Advisory-only 9

California DPR Update SWRCB Feasibility Report Expert Panel Report Advisory Group Report Released on Sept 8, 2016: http://www.waterboards.ca.gov/drinking_water/certlic/drinkingwater/rw_dpr_criteria.shtml 10 10

Overall CA Expert Panel Finding It is feasible to develop uniform water recycling criteria for DPR that would incorporate a level of public health protection as good as or better than what is currently provided in California by conventional drinking water supplies and IPR systems. 11 11

New Publication: Potable Reuse Research Compilation: Synthesis of Findings (WRRF #15-01) Objective: Summarize and synthesize key results of 34 research projects on DPR undertaken as part of WateReuse s DPR Initiative. Publication: Collection of nine synthesis documents Provide a better understanding of the state-of-the-science on DPR and identify remaining research needs. Organize into one cohesive summary document and provide to the Expert Panel to help complete its charge. PI: NWRI and George Tchobanoglous WE&RF Project Manager: Julie Minton 12
