CASE HISTORIES Client/Project: Neptune (Uganda) Ltd. Exploration Operations Block 5, Northern Uganda Duration: 2008-2012 Disciplines: HSE Management Neptune (Uganda) Ltd, a subsidiary of Tower Resources, retained RPS as their HSE Advisors during the planning and execution of their exploration in the Nile valley in northern Uganda. RPS worked with Neptune to provide a broad range of HSE support both at the strategic and operational levels including provision of HSE planning support, EIA QA/QC review, HSE training and capacity building and in country HSE support, including : Preparation/Implementation of HSE Management Systems Provision of Integrated HSE Management Plans for drilling & seismic operations Management and QA/QC of the EIA prepared by in country consultants. Training of the Neptune HSE Manager RPS personnel as the on-site drilling HSE Advisors. In country HSE support including waste management strategies and plans, stakeholder consultation, monitoring programmes, HSE audits and Emergency Response training. Client/Project: PDi/Maersk/ITF. UKCS Decommissioning Projects Duration: 2009-2012 Disciplines: Environmental Risk Assessment, EIA Subsea pipeline bundles integrate all the required structures, flowlines, control systems and pipework necessary to operate an oil field into a single subsea component, providing an engineering solution for locations where traditional pipeline/control installation is not economically viable. There are currently over 60 bundles have been installed in the North Sea, and due to their size (similar to trunk lines) they present particular technical decommissioning challenges. RPS has worked closely with industry to help understand the environmental risks associated with the decommissioning of pipeline bundles. Support includes comparative risk assessments/eia for the Maersk Leadon Field decommissioning project (northern North Sea) as well as EIA input to a Joint Industry Project to identify the factors/risk associated with the available pipeline bundle decommissioning options. Client/Project: OHS Management System Development, Australia Duration: 2008 - Ongoing Disciplines: Management Systems Coal seam gas (CSG) occurs naturally within coal deposits. CSG has developed rapidly in Australia over the last decade, emerging as a flexible, clean and competitive source of energy in an expanding economy seeking lower pollution fuels. RPS was commissioned to coordinate development and documentation of one of Australia s largest coal seam gas acreage holder s Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (OHS MS) for their current domestic and international operations. Facilitating the work through a Steering Committee, RPS helped develop OHS Policies, Standards and some 130 supporting procedures, encompassing the management of risks related to personnel, and equipment performance monitoring and systems auditing. RPS was assigned the responsibility for system roll-out and training across the client s operations.

Client/Project: Sellafield Waste Retrievals Project, UK Duration: 2007 - Ongoing Disciplines: Risk Assessment Sellafield is one of the most complex and compact nuclear sites in the UK, activities are centred around remediation, decommissioning and clean up of nuclear waste. The site is also home to the Thorp and Magnox reprocessing plants, the Sellafield MOX plant and a wide range of waste management and effluent treatment facilities. RPS is currently undertaking a number of safety programmes associated with operation, maintenance and modification of a silo facility storing Magnox/LW waste under water. This work requires various operational safety assessments/reports to support the facility Safety Case and proposed plant modifications to improve performance. RPS is also supporting a number of other projects and operations, including the Waste Retrievals Project, the Silos Direct Encapsulation Plant and the Silos Maintenance Facility. Client/Project: Smartwind. Hornsea Project One and Project Two Offshore Wind Duration: 2011 - Ongoing Disciplines: EIA Management Consultancy RPS has acted as lead EIA consultants for the first two projects in the Hornsea Round 3 Zone one of the largest offshore wind development zones in UK waters. Both Projects are categorised as Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) under the Planning Act 2008 (as amended). RPS has supported Smartwind, providing lead EIA support to both projects through all stages of the EIA process, including scoping; working closely with the development team. This has included stakeholder, management of technical specialists, project management, and Environmental Statement (ES) preparation. In addition, RPS s technical capabilities have been employed across many disciplines, including Benthic Ecology, Fish and Shellfish, Ornithology, Marine Mammals, Terrestrial Ecology, Land and Seascape assessment and Marine Archaeology. Post EIA submission, RPS has also provided expertise at the examination phases. Client/Project: South Hook LNG Terminal, Milford Haven, UK Duration: 2002-2012 Disciplines: Regulations Analysis and Permitting/Environmental Assessment A consortium comprising Qatar Petroleum and Exxon Mobil is developing a new Liquid Natural Gas Facility at Milford Haven. The project represents US $11 Billion construction and development programme including the construction of a dedicated fleet of specialist LNG tankers larger than any in current existence. Construction commenced in 2004 on approximately 40% of the old Esso refinery at Milford Haven and is one of a number of options that is being selected to bridge the gap in natural gas supply to the UK for the next 25 years. With its ability to provide a complete range of integrated environmental, planning and permitting services, RPS was appointed to lead all the permitting and environmental work including all site investigation, risk assessment, remedial design and contract management on this prestigious project.
