Page 2 of 5 ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND American Public Media Group (APMG) is a tax-exempt, nonprofit parent support organization that provides administrative, financial, and human resource services to its supported nonprofit organizations in the field of public media as well as to its for-profit arm in the field of publishing. APMG is the parent organization for American Public Media, Minnesota Public Radio, The Fitzgerald Theater Company, Southern California Public Radio and Classical South Florida. APMG also provides financial and human resources services to its wholly owned forprofit subsidiary, Greenspring Media Group. In addition, APMG operates Public Radio Market and the Pretty Good Goods catalog under license from American Public Media. The mission of American Public Media Group is to provide significant long-term financial strength to its supported organizations. Additional information can be found on their website: http://americanpublicmediagroup.publicradio.org THE POSITION Overview The General Manager of CSF (GM) is APMG s primary representative in South Florida. The GM will focus her/his attention on: 1. Identifying and cultivating strategic relationships within the South Florida region; 2. Raising money from individuals, foundations and corporations; 3. Making CSF s programming vital and essential to Classical music fans across the region; 4. Developing opportunities to sustain and expand CSF s public service in that region; and 5. Supervising CSF staff and overseeing all CSF operations in Ft. Lauderdale. The GM is APMG s primary liaison to the South Florida community, arts organizations and partners, members, underwriters, corporate underwriters and foundation funders, and other constituents. The GM will lead all local fund raising, supervise all CSF staff, and manage CSF s income and expense budgets. The GM administers the operations of all staffed and non-staffed CSF facilities, including offices, studios, transmitters and

With support and input from the APM Director of Classical Music Programming, the GM supervises strategic audience engagement activities and other constituent and partner relationships, as well as ensures quality control of station sound and content, tower and transmitter projects, contracts and disputes. This role serves as an advocate for the South Florida audience while balancing the strategic interests of the APMG organization. Utilizing the expertise, strengths and incremental capacity of APMG s shared services, selected CSF staff will also have dotted-line accountability to their respective departmental or functional area managers in other APMG locations. Primary Roles of the Position Specific areas of responsibility and accountability include: Vision and Strategic Management Provides leadership that advances the mission, vision, values, strategies and goals of APMG in Florida. Administers all policies of APMG, CPB and FCC. Retains responsibility for building and maintaining relationships with CSF board members including recruitment, retention and governance. Fundraising/Individual Giving/Membership Recruitment With support from APMG leadership, nurture and manage relationships with individual and institutional donors, underwriters, and members in Florida. Serve as the lead fundraiser, advocate, and sales person for the station. Leads legislative grass roots lobbying and public affairs efforts in South Florida. Meets regularly with key constituents, including business and community leaders throughout the region. Advocates for CSF donors/members. Supports activities related to membership development Community Partnerships and Advocacy Manages and leads Regional Advisory Council activities. Develops and implements regional outreach activities to South Florida audiences through strategic marketing/advertising, partnership activities, and trades. Provides support for live broadcasts and local recordings in the region. Provides direction and coordination of region-wide content projects. Financial Management Manages the station budget with full responsibility for meeting revenue and expense goals. Approves and tracks all purchases for the station, towers and transmitters. Manages and leads any educational sponsor relationships and revenue contracts.
Page 4 of 5 Manages tower/equipment leases, contracts and disputes. Coordinates activities related to station building/expansion projects and remodeling of technical facilities. Management of Staff Hire, supervise, train and manage direct staff through coaching, mentorship, performance meetings and on-going feedback, involving HR as needed. Creates development opportunities and individualized development plans for staff and facilitate training to enhance skills and foster growth. Provides healthy, safe and creative working environment for all CSF staff. Administration Provides operational and technical oversight. Responsible for quality control of CSF sound including monitoring and providing feedback on program flow, local breaks, levels, and traffic on call 24/7. Manages station broadcast, web and event content, including all credits, ID s and promos. Strategically represents station to various stakeholders. Coordinates speaking opportunities and develops media relationships. Strategically manages and executes event partnerships and station-owned events. Working Relationships The GM reports directly to the SVP of Music. Specific functions reporting to the GM include the following: Development, Membership, Underwriting Sales and Marketing/ Program. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE The ideal candidate will have eight or more years of demonstrated successful experience in public service administration, broadcast management and/or leadership of a midsized non-profit arts organization. S/he should have an understanding and appreciation of Classical music and knowledge of South Florida s civic, arts, cultural and classical music organizations. The candidate should be able to demonstrate ability to think and work strategically in management of operations. S/he should be a persuasive and strategic communicator with a high degree of competency in interpersonal communications demonstrating a history and ability to interact with major gift donors to facilitate individual, corporate and foundation support. Candidates should be able to pay critical attention to details that are a part of day-to-day operations. Comfort in organizational management including budget creation, financial management, human resource management will also be critical to this role. Specifically, the candidate must have strong managerial, supervisory and personnel skills with the ability to demonstrate

Preferred Skills and Experience The candidate should be knowledgeable about and committed to public media and enthusiastic about the mission and programs and services of American Public Media Group. A Bachelor s degree is required and a Master s or advanced degree is preferred. Candidates with requisite skills and who are fluent in the Spanish language are also preferred. Reporting Relationships
