LOCATION OF SESSION By kind invitation of the Government of the Republic of Brazil, the Joint Meeting of the Thirty-sixth session of the Intergovernmental Group on Hard Fibres and the Thirty-eighth session of the Intergovernmental Group on Jute, Kenaf and Allied Fibres will be held in Salvador City, Bahia, Brazil, from 16-18 November 2011. The Joint Meeting will be preceded by a Multi-stakeholder Consultation, which will take place on 15 November 2011. ENTRY FORMALITIES Visas should be obtained from the Embassy or Consulate of Brazil nearest to the applicant's domicile. When applying for their visas, delegates should ensure that their passports are valid for at least six months. 4. CUSTOMS Delegates are kindly urged to check customs regulations for Brazil before entering the country. To facilitate custom examination, visitors are advised to fill in the Baggage and Currency Declaration Form before disembarking. The forms are usually distributed by the airlines during flights to Brazil. Visitors are allowed to bring in the following items duty-free: a reasonable quantity of clothing and jewellery; two bottles of wine or liquor of not more than one litre each; and 400 cigarettes (equivalent to two cartons or twenty packs) or two tins of tobacco. Foreign exchange regulations state that visitors carrying more than 10 000 are requested to declare the amount at the Central Bank of Brazil counter located in the customs areas of the airport. Foreign currency taken out upon departure must not exceed the amount brought in. Thence, it is important to keep receipts for record purposes. Departing passengers may not take more than 10 000. 5. HOTEL ACCOMMODATION Please see Appendix 2 for a list of hotels. Delegates should make their reservations directly to the Liaison Officer. A deposit of one night accommodation is required when making the reservation. 6. TRANSPORT Delegates travelling on international flights will arrive at the Luis Eduardo Magalhães International Airport, located in Salvador City, about 10 kilometres from the Catussaba Resort Hotel. Delegates will be met at the airport by welcome staff and transport provided to their hotels, provided that the Liaison Officer receives their arrival details well in advance.

CCP:HF/JU 11/Inf.1 3 7. CLIMATE Salvador City has a tropical climate. The average temperature for Salvador is 25 C minimum and 32 C maximum. 8. HEALTH Recommended vaccinations for all travellers: All travellers should visit either their personal physician or a travel health clinic four to eight weeks before departure. The following vaccinations are recommended for Brazil: Yellow fever vaccination is required for all travellers over one year of age who arrive from a yellow fever-infected area in Africa and Latin America; otherwise, it is not recommended; Delegates who may wish to visit rural areas are recommended to take precautions against malaria. 9. CURRENCY AND BANKS Brazil's monetary unit is the real (BRL), divided into 100 cents. Foreign currency may be exchanged at the international airport, banks and authorized money exchange shops accredited by the Central Bank of Brazil. The September 2011 UN exchange rate is: 1 = BRL 1.60. 10. CREDIT CARDS International credit cards, such as American Express, Diners Club, Master Card and Visa, are accepted in major establishments. 11. SOCIAL EVENTS The Liaison Officer is organizing a city tour of Salavador. 12. MEETING REGISTRATION Registration for the Joint Meeting will take place from 07:30-09:00 a.m. on Monday, 14 November 2011 at the Catussaba Resort Hotel.
