SECTION 090003 *(Filed Sub-Bid Required) PART 1 GENERAL 1.00 TIME, MANNER AND REQUIREMENTS FOR SUBMITTING SUB-BIDS A. Sub-bids shall be submitted in accordance with provisions of the General Laws (Ter. Ed.), Chapter 149, Section 44A to 44L, inclusive, as amended. The time and place for submission to Sub-Bids shall be set forth under INSTRUCTIONS TO BIDDERS. B. Each Sub-Bid filed with the Awarding Authority must be accompanied by BID BOND, CASH, or CERTIFIED CHECK, or a TREASURER'S CHECK or CASHIER'S CHECK issued by a responsible bank or trust company, payable to the Town of Douglas in the amount stipulated in the INSTRUCTIONS TO BIDDERS. A Sub-Bid accompanied by any other form of bid deposit than those specified will be rejected. C. Each Sub-Bid submitted for the work, under this SECTION, shall be on a form furnished by the Awarding Authority, as required by SECTION 44F of Chapter 149 of the General Laws, as amended. D. Work to be done under this SECTION is shown on Contract Drawings numbered. Remaining Contract Drawings are included for reference and coordination. 1.01 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS A. PART A and DIVISION 1 of PART B are hereby made a part of this SECTION. B. Examine all conditions as they exist at the project prior to submitting a sub-bid for the work of this SECTION. 1.02 SCOPE OF WORK A. Furnish and install the following, as shown on the Drawings and specified herein: 1. Suspended acoustical tile ceilings, 2x2 foot lay-in type including grid suspension system. 2. Perform all cutting in new ceilings furnished hereunder as required for items, which penetrate these surfaces. 090003-1
1.03 RELATED WORK SPECIFIED ELSEWHERE A. The following related work is to be performed under the designated SECTIONS: 1. Electrical fixtures, including supports therefor, wiring and correlated electrical work: SECTION 260001-ELECTRICAL. 2. Kitchen exhaust hood, HVAC registers and grilles, and related mechanical work: SECTION 114000-FOOD SERVICE EQUIPMENT, and SECTION 230001-HEATING, VENTILATING and AIR CONDITIONING. 3. Sprinkler heads and piping and related fire protection work: SECTION 210001-FIRE PROTECTION. B. This subcontractor shall furnish, install, and maintain in safe adequate condition all staging and scaffolding that are necessary for the proper execution of the work of this section. 1.04 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Installation of the work under this SECTION shall be performed by an acoustical subcontractor approved by the manufacturers of the materials. 1.05 SUBMITTALS A. Submit complete shop drawings in accordance with the provisions of SECTION 013300-SUBMITTALS. 1. Shop drawings shall include a complete reflective ceiling plan of each type of ceiling, indicating by dimension, locations of lighting fixtures, and other items penetrating acoustical ceilings. Shop drawings shall include details of ceiling cove system. 2. Include, with initial shop drawings submitted, certified Underwriter's Laboratories tests for ceiling systems proposed for use, applicable to the various structural conditions to which the systems will be installed. B. Submit the following samples in accordance with the provisions of SECTION 013300-SUBMITTALS. 1. Sample of each acoustical tile proposed for use. 2. Sample of each member of acoustical tile fastening system and suspension system proposed for use, 4 inches long. 3. Sample of each member of curved and flat perforated metal suspended ceiling systems, including panels and each member of fastening system and suspension including insulating accessories and colors. C. Submit additional tile units equal to 2% of the total installed for each type of tile used for use by the Owner. 090003-2
1.06 JOB CONDITIONS A. Ensure that all wet work, including masonry and concrete, is completed and dried out prior to commencing tile work. Start no work until uniform temperatures of at least 60 degrees F. before, during and after installation of ceiling system can be assured. be responsible for examination and acceptance of all surfaces and conditions affecting the proper installation of materials required hereunder and do not proceed until all unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. 1.07 ALTERNATES A. Examine SECTION 012300-ALTERNATES for Scope of Work that may affect the work of this Section and include any deletions or additions in the Form for Subbid under the appropriate alternate. 090003-3
PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.01 SUSPENDED SYSTEM A. General - Refer to the reflected ceiling plans and room finish schedules for layout and locations of lay-in and concealed grid acoustical tile ceilings, and to the Drawings for details of installation methods. B. Suspension System (typical) - intermediate duty system, "Prelude XL" by Armstrong, USG Corporation, Certain Teed, Valley Forge, PA or approved equal. The system shall accommodate readily available 24 x 24 inch lay-in panels, light fixtures, and air diffusers. 1. Fasteners for hangers: a. For concrete overhead - power activated acoustic hanger eyes, Ramset, Phillips, or equal. b. For steel overhead - Nelson acoustical hanger studs, or equal. 2. Hangers - 12 gauge galvanized steel wire. 3. Main runners - intermediate duty, conforming to ASTM C 635, of cold rolled galvanized steel. Main runners shall be of double-web construction, web height 1-1/2 inch with rectangular top bulb and 15/16" bottom flange with painted electro-galvanized steel capping, and slotted at 6 inches o.c. to receive cross tees for 24 x 24 inch grid and for 24x48 inch grid. 4. Cross tees - identical in cross-section to main runners, 4 feet 0 inches and 2 feet 0 inches nom. length, with stab-type end detail allowing removal without tools, and override at each end. 5. Wall angles - 90 degrees cross-section, 15/16 by 15/16 inch hemmed legs, 12 feet 0 inches nom. length. 6. Main runners, cross tees and wall angles shall have matte white baked polyester finish. 7. Curved wall angles (where applicable) - Flexible wall co-polymer vinyl angles, 15/16 by 2 inch, matte white, by Flex Trim Corp., Bedford, TX, or approved equal. Flexible wall angle shall be fire-rated in accordance with ASTM - UL94 Flame Test V-O. 8. Fire Rated Ceilings - Intermediate duty system, Prelude XL Fire Guard as specified under 2.01 C. C. Suspension System (kitchen and toilet rooms) - intermediate duty environmental system, "Prelude Plus XL Fire Guard" by Armstrong or approved equal. PART 3 EXECUTION 3.01 INSTALLATION A. The ceiling suspension systems shall be installed per the recommendations of ASTM C636. Loading of any component shall not cause deflection of more than 1/360 of the span. B. Main runners shall be installed 48 inches on center and be directly suspended by 12 gauge galvanized steel wire spaced 48 inches on center along the main runners. Hanger wires shall be wrapped tightly at least 3 full turns. C. Wall moldings shall be installed wherever suspension components meet vertical surfaces. 1. Install flexible vinyl wall angle at all inside and outside radius curved walls per manufacturer's recommendations. At inside radius curves use conventional heat gun to remove ripples. D. Acoustical panels shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations. E. Integral Cove Ceilings: Install in accordance with the approved shop drawings and the manufacturerʼs requirements. 3.02 CLEANING A. Following installation, clean soiled or discolored surfaces of tiles and suspension grid system. Remove or replace units, which are damaged or improperly installed. B. Touch-up prefinished metal and wood ceiling systems as required in accordance with the recommendations of the finish manufacturer. END OF SECTION 090003-8
