5 EU Export Markets for Tissue, Newsprint, Consumer Paper, and Printed Matter (Tons, Darker = greater volume) The U.S., Switzerland, Russia, Turkey, and Australia are the top 5 markets by tonnage. United States and Australia exports are similar with roughly 99% leaving the EU by sea and 1% by air. 87% of exports to Switzerland leave by road and 13% by rail. Most exports to Turkey leave the EU by sea (79%) with 12% by road and 8% by rail. Steep volume declines in some countries (Russia -44%, Australia 32%) and more moderate reduction in the two largest markets (US 5%, Switzerland -13%). Exports to China grew by 12% and India by 13%.
