Styrenics SINKRAL FOR EXTRUSION Designed for everyday life
Versalis Sinkral production site and research facilities 1 Versalis, the chemical company of Eni, is a leading European producer of styrenic polymers. Our Sinkral grades are produced in our Mantua, Italy plant. Our Research and Engineering are among our most valuable assets. Our proprietary technology, Sinkral Continuous Mass, has allowed Versalis to develop a very broad, versatile and competitive range of grades. Our product range for extrusion, in particular, is specifically designed to fit the most demanding needs of the final application fields. We work together with our customers in order to deliver outstanding products to the final markets of furniture, automotive and consumer goods industries.
Quality constancy Being a single step, closed loop, continuous process, Versalis technology ensures a superior lot-to-lot consistency, homogeneity and stability if compared to the traditional emulsion batch process; this means, from the user point of view, a more reliable and consistent raw material. Our site is ISO 9001 certified and production is constantly monitored through state of the art technology. Reduced volatiles content The continuous Mass Technology enables the manufacturer to implement a clean, energy efficient and environmentally friendly process. No solvents and additional chemicals are used in the process. Water consumption is reduced to extremely low rates. Moreover the Sinkral production process takes advantage of state of the art devolatilization technologies. With this features, the Sinkral product range stands as a leader in terms of Total Volatile Organic Compounds (TVOC) levels (fig. 1). In comparison, Sinkral contains on average 80% less volatiles than conventional grades produced via the traditional emulsion process. Processing Sinkral allows to enjoy the benefits of lower odor and safer working environment. The same benefits are transferred to the final users allowing production of low TVOC finished goods. 2 3 continuous mass advantage vs traditional emulsion processes fig. 1 TVOC content comparison between typical emulsion and Sinkral In production During processing In the end use TVOC content Minimized use of chemicals and additives No waste water More efficient volatiles removal Very stable process Improved base color (self coloring) Reduced gels content High thermal stability Superior recyclability Continuous process: quality constancy Reduced volatiles content Reduced odor and migration Excellent surface finishing Wide range of finished products (mattness/gloss requirements) Typical emulsion Sinkral CM
A unique balance of performances Sinkral extrusion grades exhibit a balance of mechanical properties unique in the market. Multiaxial impact (Ball Drop test) represent the performance needs of extruded items better than monoaxial impact tests, such as Izod or Charpy. The excellent balance of Sinkral allows for reducing thickness without affecting the final mechanical performance of the item. The wide product range makes it possible to choose the most suitable grade in order to satisfy the peculiar needs of your application (fig. 2). Fine-tuning your look Sinkral offers the broadest range of gloss levels on the market of extrusion grade. Any surface finishing can be obtained choosing the most appropriate grade for your application. Matt, silky surfaces can be obtained with a layer of our specialty supermatt grade M4 MODENA. B 732/E and B4 VENEZIA allow for highly specular surfaces without renouncing to mechanical properties (fig. 3). fig. 2 Mechanical properties balance of Sinkral extrusion grades compared with typical commercial ranges fig. 3 30 Super matt Matt Standard Glossy Super glossy Izod ISO (kj/m 2 ) 25 20 15 10 Typical mass B432/E B532/E B732/E Typical emulsion B4 VENEZIA M4 MODENA C 333/M2 Typical mass B4 MILANO B 432/E B 532/E B 732/E Typical emulsion B4 VENEZIA 5 4 0 1500 1700 1900 2100 2300 Tensile modulus (MPa) 5 Excellent surface finish Sinkral extrusion grades allow reaching an excellent quality of extruded surfaces.
