3 of 16 CRI 104 Sept 2015 Standard for Installation of commercial carpet d. BS 5325 Installation of Textile floor coverings - Code of practice Ecosoft Carpet Tiles Ecosoft carpet tile is a flexible floor covering system that is the perfect choice for modern living and working environments. The surface pile enhances the beauty of the interior and the dense cushion backing provides comfort underfoot and sound absorption. Ecosoft carpet tile is practical, versatile and hard-wearing, easy to install and to clean. It is the ideal solution for carpeting offices, corridors and public spaces with heavy traffic flow.
4 of 16 Floor Requirement Ecosoft Carpet Tile can be installed onto floors and stairs. The product is not suitable for installation on walls. Before installation, the surface must be clean, dry and free of dust. The floors must be properly cured, level and smooth. The Installer must measure the area to be carpeted and plan the layout, taking special attention to the tile patterns and recommended and/or specified installation configuration (ie quarter-turn, brick, straight or other pattern) for best appearence and maximum wear. Additionally, when installing modular carpet, we recommend only using the approved pressure sensitive adhesives (see Appendix A for approved adhesives). Using the recommended adhesive to install Ecosoft backed modular carpet tile prevents tiles from moving under normal traffic conditions, but enables them to be replaced easily when required. These high performance, solvent free adhesives are designed for installation over metal, wood and concrete subfloors. When properly installed, using the approved adhesive in the recommended manner can reduce the cost of future removal without disturbing the subfloor.
4 of 13 Square Floor Requirement 90 2. Use a V1 notched trowel (1.6 mm. deep x 1.6 mm. wide) to spread the pressure sensitive adhesive. Allow the adhesive to dry clear (dry tack mode), then immediately lay in the Ecosoft carpet tile. A stronger bond, if required, can be adhesived by laying the tile into adhesive film prior to it drying completely. This will cause transfer of the adhesive film onto the back of the tile. EcoSoft PET cushion backing is breathable, allowing for complete drying of the adhesive. Wet / Green Slab* Installations: - Full spread as per the above instructions when using an approved adhesive specially formulated for wet/green slabs (refer Appendix A). - "Picture Frame" adhesive application (grid installation method) if non-wet slab adhesives in Appendix A are used. Minimum width for adhesive lines must be 30 cm. and the lines must be centered under tile joints (minimum 10 cm. either side of the tile joints). See following diagram. * Wet/ Green Slab: concrete or sub-floor Relative Humidity (RH) up to 99% (as measured by ASTM F2170-11 Standard Test Measure for Determining Relative Humidity in Concrete Floor Slabs Using In-Situ Probes)' for no longer than 6 months from date of installation.

Failure to follow one of the manufacturers recommended installation configuration shown above and stipulated on each collection folder and specification may result in unwanted visual effects. In certain situations product may appear unsightly.

8 of 16 Best Practice Running a tape measure over 11 tiles (10 joins) the distance (for a 500 mm. x 500 mm. tile) should be the width of the tiles + approx 0.5 mm. x 10 = 5005 mm. If the measurement is less than this, then the installation may be too tight, and peaking may occur at the joins.
9 of 16 Plank Tile Installation These instructions describe the installation layout process for 0.25 m. (W) x 1.00 m. (L) plank tiles in herringbone and vertical (single direction) configurations. STANDARD PLANK SIZE INSTALLATION METHOD (Size: 25 x 100 cm.) Layout Proper setting out of datum lines will prevent having narrow or very short length tiles at wall junctures and ensure a harmonious appearance. Determine the plank tile configuration within the room. Typically for planks, the pattern runs the length of the room. Always verify this information with the seaming diagram provided by the architect and/or Carpets Inter sales office. Determine the center of the room; the starting point for herringbone installation must be as near to the center of the room as possible and must be positioned to utilize the largest perimeter cut tile size and ensure a symmetrical pattern.
10 of 16 Herringbone Herringbone is a distinctive graphic layout that creates a beautiful pattern. Laying a herringbone pattern will require a fair amount of individual fitting since the multitude of small rows must be made to line up smoothly. The herringbone can be installed parallel or at 45 angle to the room 90 o Herringbone 45 o Herringbone Line 2 Line 2 Line 3 Line 3 Starting Point Line 1 Starting Point Line 1 Installation At the starting point, draw a line parallel to the longest wall (Line 1), a vertical line (Line 2) at a right angle to the first line and a diagonal 45 line (Line 3) to establish the working lines. Make a dry layout of plank tiles from the center line to the wall running parallel to the long direction of the planks to confirm a balanced layout. Installation must start from the center point. It is critical in laying the initial row correctly, aligned with the working lines, as they are the foundation for the rest of the installation and crucial to the end-result. Periodically check alignment during installation. Additional working lines parallel to the starting working lines assist to maintain the integrity of the pattern and avoids risk of peaking at the joints.
11 of 16 Brick Brick is a popular installation method that is easy to install and results in a beautiful floor. It may be unifrom or alternatively laid random as similar to a wood or LVT product. Vertical Brick Horizontal Brick Line 2 Line 2 Line 3 Starting Point Starting Point Line 1 Line 1 Line 3 Installation At the starting point, draw a line parallel to the longest wall (Line 1), a vertical line (Line 2) at a right angle to the first line and a line 500 mm from and parallel to the starting line; Line 1 or 2, to establish working lines. Make a dry layout of plank tiles from the center line to the wall running parallel to the long direction of the planks to confirm a balanced layout. Install the first plank tile at starting point. Continue lay the first row of plank tiles to both side of the wall. Lay the next row by staggering the plank tile end by half the length of the plank to achieve a symmetrical look for Brick configuration. It is also possible to randomly stagger the planks which results in a look that resembles wood plank flooring. Periodically check alignment during installation. Additional working lines parallel to the starting working lines assist to maintain the integrity of the pattern and avoids risk of peaking at the joints. Visibility of Carpet Tile Seams in Solid or Near-Solid Color Tiles Disclaimer It is expected that the seams of solid and near-solid carpet tiles will be visible. This is not considered or accepted as a product defect because it is due to the inherent characteristic of a distinct object (the tile in this case) in a solid color. It is what you see in any flooring material that is modular such as wood planks and ceramic tiles. For Solid or Near-Solid color tiles, we recommend a quarter-turn installation for square tiles and a herringbone installation for plank tiles. These installed configurations create a subtle texture on the floor by utilizing the visibility of the seams. If you prefer a carpet tile that masks most seams, select a product that has a multicolor pattern or texture that can minimize the visibility of tile seams in most applications. 15 of 16 APPENDIX B Stairs Ecosoft Tiles can be installed on stairs. It is highly recommended that separate pieces be cut and applied to the Step & Riser, the junction being covered with an appropriate Nosing Profile for both aesthetic and safety purposes. Size of cuts and types of Nosing will depend on the style of stairway and the type of environment (refer to profile manufacturers installation guide).
