Hazardous & Restricted Substances Testing REACH, RoHS, ELV etc www.spectro.in Ro H S ( Re s t r i c t i o n o f H a z a rd o u s Substances) is a new European Directive that became effective on the 1st of July 2006 and similar regulations have been adopted in many other countries worldwide. Electrical and electronic equipment sold in Europe after such date MUST comply with the strict regulations in the Directive. It is closely linked with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE) 2002/96/EC which sets collection, recycling and recovery targets for electrical goods. The Directive requires that electrical and electronic equipment sold in the EU do not contain lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs), and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDs) above the legal threshold. These regulations impact the manufacturers of electronic goods and supply chains worldwide and require testing of all materials, components and parts used in electronic equipments. Limits The maximum permitted concentrations are 0.1% or 1000 ppm (except for cadmium, which is limited to 0.01% or 100 ppm) by weight of homogeneous material. The limits do not apply to theweight of the finished product, or even to a component, but to any single homogenous material for example, the sheath on a cable or the tinning on a component lead. Products affected: è Large household appliances è Small household appliances èit & telecommunications equipment è Consumer equipment è Lighting equipment è Electrical & electronic tools ètoys, leisure & sports equipment RoHS Certifications Two marks of compliance are Available One for system certification to make sure our clients' Restricted Substances Compliance management system meets set requirements and Another for components and finished products preparing to go to market: Who does it affect? Any organization involved in the production, sale or distribution of electrical &electronic equipment destined for an EU market, such as: è Manufacturers è Retailers èbrand Managers è Traders è Distributors Main areas of risk: èproduct risk: From selecting materials and components in products and using indirect materials in the manufacturing process. èsupplier risk: From product variation, engineering or manufacturing changes, multiple suppliers and contamination through the supply chain. The RoHS Directive poses complex challenges. Manufacturers need a partner they can rely on now - one that will work with them to achieve success and to meet RoHS compliance both cost-effectively and rapidly.

SPECTRO offers a comprehensive approach to REACH regulation and compliance. SPECTRO can help customers around the country manage their responsibilities at each critical step within this regulation. REACH is a new European Community Regulation on chemicals and their safe use. It deals with the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of substances. The REACH regulation entered into force on the first of June 2007, making it essential that all manufacturers, importers, distributors and downstream users of chemicals be prepared and fully aware of the vast impact that REACH has on their business and relations with their suppliers. Do you know what REACH means for your products and your company? You should find out your duties under REACH if: è You manufacture or import chemical substances or mixtures of chemical substances (preparations). è You produce or import articles (for example construction materials, electronic components, toys or vehicles) which contain substances included in a list of substances of very high concern or which are released during their use. èyou process chemicals or you formulate preparations for end use (for example cleaning products, paints or motor oils) or you use these formulated products professionally. In this case you are a downstream user. Softlines Hardlines SPECTRO is the leading testing laboratory in India. SPECTRO offering testing, inspection and auditing services and providing a wide range of standard and custom testing programmes. Examples of products covered are, but not limited to candles, furniture, stationary, household and packaging products. Spectro in its efforts to ensure a pleasant and pollution-free environment for future generations helps both buyers and manufacturers satisfy the most stringent international eco testing requirements. Our comprehensive, one-stop service includes tests required by the eco labels and eco standards of different countries. Spectro also offers a full range of consultancy services that are designed to detect prohibited, hazardous substances and help you satisfy a variety of eco requirements. SPECTRO is in the ideal position to help our customers and clients meet the Quality, Safety and Ethical standards irrespective of their, or their customer's location in the world. Our mix of testing, inspection, auditing and consultancy services is unparalleled in the consumer goods.
