What is Windchill360.com Cloud? Hosted on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud platform Eliminates cost for Hardware Database Operating System Windchill360.com Cloud includes 24x7 support from a team of dedicated system, database and application administrators. Provides a commitment for 99.5% system uptime 3
What is Windchill360.com Cloud? Secure AWS the most secure cloud platforms with numerous customers including those with stringent security and ITAR requirements. Each customer environment is designed as a separate virtual private cloud (VPC All customer environments are configured to use SSL with support to enforce strong passwords and optionally to use forms-based authentication. Reliable Provides a high-level of reliability. Application data resides in Elastic Block Store (EBS) volumes which offers 10 times more reliability than a commodity disk drive. Snapshots of the EBS volumes are captured each day and are stored in Amazon S3 storage. Uses the relational database service (RDS) of the AWS platform for Oracle or SQL Server. Which offers a high-availability database service with built-in failover mechanisms and support for point of time recovery. 4

Nikon s System before migration to Cloud System located in Madison, Wisconsin Nikon main design facility in California Global design facilities No Replica Servers Physical Hardware Backups stored locally No virtual environment 6
Nikon s reason to move to the Cloud Difficult scalability Web access needed for worldwide interaction without VPN Using under-utilized, aging physical hardware Reduce IT Burden 7
Nikon s System in the Cloud RedHat Linux 6.3 used for the Windchill Application Server Designed a separate virtual private cloud (VPC) for NPI with public and private subnets Amazon RDS with Oracle used for the database server Data migration to the cloud completed with secure software VPN connection Windchill Publishing Engine configured on a Windows 2008 Server to allow remote publishing from Windchill clients SSL configured for Windchill to enable secure data communications 8
Nikon s System in the Cloud Configured Windchill to use Amazon Simple Email Service (SES) as the SMTP server Backups configured using Python scripts to generate snapshot backups periodically and stored in Amazon S3 service Leverage low-cost backup service Glacier for long-term backups Constructed Amazon Machine Images (AMIs) to quickly build new instances of the system as needed AWS costs per month lower than cost of hardware maintenance and co-location center costs 9
Nikon s System after Migration to Cloud Increased Performance Higher throughputs to the Cloud Stronger network infrastructure Multiple availability Zones from AWS worldwide Guaranteed system uptime Lower Costs Easier system management Quick integration with other Cloud Services 10
