OUTLINE Gas Absorption Solutions CANSOLV Technologies Inc. SO 2 Scrubbing Amine Chemistry SO 2 Scrubbing for Power and Industrial Boilers SO 2 Scrubbing for Fluid Cat Cracking Units SO 2 Scrubbing for Sulfur Plants SO 2 Scrubbing for Sulfuric Acid Plants Operating Units CANSOLV CO 2 Capture System

COMPANY HISTORY Gas Absorption Solutions Cansolv SO 2 Scrubbing System invented in 1988 at Union Carbide Key employee buyout of technology in 1997 Technology Optimization - SO 2 and CO 2 9 Operating Plants 5 Licensed Units 45 Staff in Montreal, Canada; 10 staff in Shen Zhen, China

CANSOLV SO 2 SCRUBBING SYSTEM A regenerable SO 2 absorption process Similar to H 2 S/CO 2 amine treaters Uses conventional equipment Aqueous diamine solvent is highly selective for SO 2

CANSOLV SO 2 SCRUBBING SYSTEM Pure, water-saturated SO 2 byproduct A very robust, easy to operate process Almost zero emissions at low cost Patented technology

AMINE ABSORBENT Gas Absorption Solutions The unique diamine absorbent is the key to the CANSOLV SO 2 Scrubbing System technology The first amine group is always in salt form providing absorbent non-volatility The second amine has the optimum strength for balanced absorption and regeneration

PROCESS CHEMISTRY Gas Absorption Solutions Identical in concept to Amine/H 2 S chemistry Operates at ph range of 4.8 to 5.2 vs 9.7 to 11 Aqueous diamine solvent solution Buffering provides high capacity for SO 2 absorption Proprietary solvent has the proper absorption/desorption strength Solvent amine is non-volatile since it is always in salt form Regeneration provides pure, water saturated SO 2 as byproduct

OVERVIEW OF CANSOLV PROCESS No capture of CO 2 Stainless steel metallurgy required for ph 5 Corrosion allowance minimal with stainless steel Feed gas frequently contains solids requiring constant filtration of amine HSS must be managed due to oxidized gas feed Continuous Amine Purification Unit (APU) required Amine stable to O 2 Operation and control is straightforward Can achieve low (<10 ppmv ) SO 2

APPLICATIONS Gas Absorption Solutions Application Criteria Benefits Boiler/Htr Systems SO 2 - High sulfur fuel - Poor access to limestone - Access to H 2 SO 4 market - Fire high sulfur fuels - Earn revenue from acid FCC Regen Gas SO 2 - High sulfur cat feed - Poor access to waste disposal sites - Incorporate SO 2 into existing sulfur systems Claus Tail Gas SO 2 - >99.9% S capture required - Increase capacity in SRU - Treats other sulfur streams for profit potential - Fewer exceedences - Can use sour gas for TOX and earn revenue H 2 SO 4 Tail Gas SO 2 - Treats to <10 ppm SO 2 - Disposes of SO 2 into acid plant - Can retrofit existing single absorption acid plant
