ENGINEERED PRODUCTS (PTY) LTD FABRIC & METAL EXPANSION JOINTS Custom designed and manufactured high temperature expansion joints and insulation products for all industrial applications.
SAFETY SHIELDS & VALVE COVERS Flextra Engineered Products manufactures their own range of TFE coated fiberglass that is burnt orange in colour with a wide centre band of clear film (ECTFE), these permit visual inspection of pipe joints by personnel so leaks can be detected rapidly. This unique viewing shield withstands temperatures up to 150 C and pressures to 1000 psi (69 bar). It demonstrates a broad spectrum of chemical resistance, especially to most corrosive chemicals and organic solvents. The clear design of the shield allows easy visualization of the sight window and sight window retainers, as well as the pipe connections. This range of products are fully manufactured in South Africa and are offered to fit all universal size flanges and valves. Along with the covers the range includes leak detection paints and hard shell flange covers. An ideal application of this Safety Shield is its custom fabrication for use with sight flow indicators.
REMOVABLE & REUSABLE INSULATION COVERS Custom designed and manufactured removable and reusable thermal covers for any application. Removable insulation covers have proven themselves a very lucrative product because of their clear benefits: energy conservation and personnel protection. Although in most cases removable insulation covers are initially more expensive than conventional permanent insulation, their cost becomes justified when the permanent insulation must be replaced. In recent years higher labour costs continued to narrow the price gap between permanent and removable reusable insulation. Benefits Energy Savings. In most cases these thermal covers pay for themselves in 6-18 months when installed on hot steam or processing equipment just by reducing heat losses from the items usually not covered with any insulation. Time and Labour Savings Since most of the covers can be installed or removed within a few minutes they offer significant labour and time savings in the initial insulation of equipment as well as its re-insulation after maintenance and inspections. NON METALLIC EXPANSION JOINTS Flextra has expanded its range of products to include fabric and metallic expansion joints as well as a range of flange and valve covers. Through our association with AlphaLam Products and RAMCO Safety Shields, we are now able to design, manufacture and install custom designed expansion joint solutions aimed at reducing down time and saving our clients money in the long run. Manufactured to fit and operate in any application our team will offer full survey and inspection services from which a custom solution will be designed, manufactured and installed to design. Our range of fabric joints use the very latest material available on the market today, ensuring the best solution to mechanical and thermal problems. The range of materials used can be classified in four main types: FLUOROELASTOMER SuperSpan Mark III wire/f Fluoroelastomers (FKM) manufactured in the USA by DuPont (Viton) and Dyneon (Fluorel). This family of elastomers have outstanding resistance to chemicals, oils and heat compared to other elastomers. FKM is excellent for high acid conditions typically found from the air heater to the stack and are acceptable for use where low concentrations of ammonia are possible due to ammonia slip (<10ppm). 205 C operating and 400 C excursion. Reinforced with stainless steel wire knit mesh and Flextra kevlar/ glass fabric to add to mechanical strength unlike normal glass reinforced fabric. Insulation: Glass and Ceramic fabrics and needle mats Reinforcement: Stainless wire mesh, Aramid fabrics or Glass fabrics Chemical Barrier: PTFE films or Fluoro- Elastomers PRESSURE CONTAINMENT EPDM SuperSpan Mark II Flextra Ethylene Propylene(EPDM) A low cost, high performance compound with excellent ozone, oxygen and chemical resistance including ammonia and mild acids. EPDM can operate at 150 C constant and has excellent low temperature resistance and high strength due to Flextra kevlar/glass blend fabric. EXPANSION JOINTS COMPENSATE FOR A VARIETY OF MOVEMENT Axial Compression Axial Extension Lateral Movement Torsional Rotation Angular Rotation
NON METALLIC EXPANSION JOINTS FLUOROPLASTICS SuperSpan Flextrachem (Alphalam) A family of compounds that have excellent heat and chemical resistance. Based on the coating technique and film thickness, these materials can be zero porosity and have the ability to resist chemical attack in the harshest environments. Upper temperature of 305 C constant operating. (Viton is a registered trademark of DuPont and Fluorel is a registered trademark of 3M). All above materials are manufactured and supplied to FEP by Alpha Associated Inc. (USA). SILICONE (SL) Silicone has a poor resistance to chemical environments and wet conditions and should not be used in any flue gas application. Silicone should be restricted to hot dry applications at 300 C. Ancillary Equipment and Services Flextra s speciality is expansion joint construction, not only the fabric seals but also the fabrication of all steel parts to offer a complete joint, designed to accommodate specific duct work gaps and operating conditions. By supplying the steel parts, complete accuracy with a scheme fit for purpose can be assured. The specialist nature of fabric expansion joints and relatively vulnerable nature of the materials of manufacture often require the services of the FEP installation teams. The service that is available ranges from initial site and condition surveys, to supervision of general installation and site joining of fabric seals or complete installation of prepared steel work. Site teams are completely self contained and are trained to work to high standards of quality and safety. 2 1 Power Station ID fan and outlet - MKV Flextrachem Power Station main flue gas duct to stack - MKV Flextrachem
METALLIC EXPANSION JOINTS Our team manufactures all our metal joints within a controlled environment that allows us to manufacture from scratch as well as refurbish joints and have them reinstalled. We are able to manufacture: Single Expansion Joints Axial compression and extension, lateral and angular movement can be accommodated. These expansion joints do not restrain the internal pressure thrust. Tied Single AT Expansion Joints also have one bellow, except the overall length is restrained by tie rods. Universal AU Expansion Joints consist of two bellows separated by a pipe spool. This configuration accommodates large lateral movements, in addition to axial compression and extension and angular deflection. A bellow is a flexible seal. The convoluted portion of an expansion joint is designed to flex when thermal movements occur in the piping system. The number of convolutions depends upon the amount of movement the bellows must accommodate or the force that must be used to accomplish this deflection. The convoluted element must be strong enough circumferentially to withstand the internal pressure of the system, yet responsive enough to flex. The longitudinal load (pressure thrust) must then be absorbed by some other type of device. These devices include pipe anchors, tie rods, hinges, or gimbal structures. Hinged Expansion Joints AH have a single bellows with overall length restrained by hinge hardware designed to accommodate pressure thrust. A hinged expansion joint allows angular movement in a single plane. Gimbal AG Expansion Joints have a single bellows and gimbal hardware designed to resist pressure thrust. The gimbal expansion joint hardware operates like the universal joint on a drive shaft to accommodate angular movements in any plane.
