Flexible Graphite Foil Manufactured from Expanded Graphite
SIGRAFLEX flexible graphite foil is a homogeneous material that contains no adhesives or binders. Even after long service periods, SIGRAFLEX displays no notable changes in its properties compared with other sealing materials. Inhibitors can be added to enhance the oxidation and corrosion resistance properties of the flexible graphite. SIGRAFLEX graphite foil is also available with self-adhesive backing. For applications in stuffing box pack- ings, a special PTFE-coated foil is supplied with markedly improved friction and leakage behavior. SIGRAFLEX APX foil offers maximum protection against oxidation and thus ensures greater reliability and longer service lives. SIGRAFLEX graphite foil is available in various dimensions and densities, and with a purity level of 96 % up to 99.85 %. SIGRAFLEX graphite foil is supplied as standard in both roll and tape form. The different SIGRAFLEX grades and their respective code designations are as follows: APX D C E Z CS/ZS ZX TF Graphite foil with outstanding oxidation resistance Graphite foil of automotive quality Graphite foil of industrial quality Graphite foil with conventional oxidation inhibitor Graphite foil of nuclear quality Graphite foil of industrial/nuclear quality with self-adhesive backing Graphite foil of nuclear quality with corrosion inhibitor Graphite foil with PTFE coating for stuffing box packings Properties Flexible, soft Impermeable to gases and liquids Can be used from -250 C up to 3000 C depending on installation and operating conditions: in an inert atmosphere up to approx. 3000 C for applications in air at more than approx. 400 C, users should request our advice Resistant to most media Asbestos-free, presents no health hazard No ageing or embrittlement, because of absence of binders and fillers Can be supplied with high purity Long-term stability of compressibility and recovery over a wide temperature range No measurable cold or warm flow up to maximum permissible gasket pressure Properties highly anisotropic, particularly in respect of electrical and thermal conductivity Low coefficient of friction Resistant to radiation Very good resistance to thermal shock Excellent residual stress Easily processed by cutting or punching Can be bonded using commercial adhesives Any existing industrial property rights must be observed
