Fayetteville Public Schools - Administrative Director of Finance and Business Services Job Description Exempt: Department: Reports To: Location: Yes Administration Superintendent/Associate Superintendent Administration Building GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION Responsible for managing, tracking, and reporting the financial activities of the organization. Includes transferring money between accounts as needed, monthly bank reconciliations, all financial reports, recommending rates, tracking all income and expenditures. Responsible for all accounting functions, including setting up and maintaining chart of accounts and all ledger entries. Responsible for the entire accounts payable process, including entering invoices, approving payment, writing and mailing checks. Supervise all areas of billing and assist with billing problems and billing system maintenance and upgrades. Ensure regulatory compliance in all financial aspects. Prepare activity, payroll, and ad hoc reports for quality improvement and governmental reporting. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Control district financial activities in coordination with other district directors. 2. Comply with school finance, funding, and reporting laws. 3. Perform or supervise the duties of district treasurer. 4. Provide accounting services to the District. 5. Supervise and train an efficient fiscal services staff. 6. Provide clear, accurate, and timely financial information to the Board of Education, the Superintendent, and all other district staff with a need to know. 7. Support external auditors. 8. Maintain a cheerful, service-oriented business office for the benefit and satisfaction of the district's internal and external customers. 9. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Graduate degree (M.B.A., M.A., etc), at least 10 years related experience and/or training, and 5 years related management experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and understand the most complex documents; Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints; Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style; Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane, algebra, solid geometry and trigonometry. CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. RESPONSIBILITY FOR FUNDS, PROPERTY and EQUIPMENT Regularly responsible for funds, building premises, inventory, or other property owned or leased by the organization and, in addition, may have temporary custody and responsibility of patron property, which through carelessness, error, loss, theft, misappropriation, or similar action would result in very important monetary losses to the organization. The total value for the above would range from $50,000,000 to $100,000,000. ACCURACY Probable errors would normally not be detected in succeeding operations and would definitely have serious effects in relationships with patrons and/or with the operations of other segments of the organization.
