State program was approved by the Kazakhstan Government and includes: Development of: Nuclear energy (Research and Power reactors) Atomic industry (Uranium mining and milling) Health and environmental protection (Nuclear medicine, rehabilitation of the territories of former test sites) Nuclear research

Nuclear research Nuclear science in Kazakhstan in general is represented: - National Nuclear Center of RK, which has in its structure following research institutes: Institute of Atomic Energy; Institute of Radiation Safety and Ecology - Institute of Nuclear Physics - Institute of Geophysical Researches - Park of Nuclear Technologies 8

Main activity directions: Provision of safety of former Semipalatinsk Test Site; Radiation monitoring of territories of former test sites; Implementation of safety measures on radiation dangerous facilities and areas; Basic researches in the field of nuclear physics and material sciences; Development and implementation of radiation and nuclear technologies, production of radioisotope and industrial goods; Scientific and technological support of works in development of nuclear power; Monitoring of nuclear tests with national control system included into the international monitoring network.

Kazakhstan Atomic Energy Committee (KAEC) KAEC is responsible for: Realization of State Policy in the field of safely atomic energy use. Development of acts, regulations, standards, rules in the field of atomic energy use. Licensing all types of activities in the field of atomic energy use. State control of nuclear, radioactive and special non-nuclear materials, dual-use goods. Providing Regime of Non Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, nuclear and radiation safety during peaceful use of atomic energy 5/6/2014 15

Export and import control of nuclear materials, technologies, equipment, special non-nuclear materials, dual-use goods and equipment, radioactive sources and isotope goods. Providing and coordination of co-operation of Kazakhstan institutions with IAEA and other international organizations in the field of atomic energy use. Emergency preparedness. 5/6/2014 16
