WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR The Greater Cedar Valley Alliance & Chamber seeks motivated and energetic candidates that are passionate about helping businesses & institutions fulfill their workforce needs to become our full-time Workforce Development Coordinator. The main responsibility is to execute workforce development events & activities that promote job creation, workforce recruitment & retention in basic industry sectors and related value-added industries, and advocate for the interest of employers in relation to workforce and education. This position will collect and report workforce related data to determine future workforce needs, and identify a plan of action to accomplish those needs, including collaboration with various partners to coordinate workforce development initiatives for the Cedar Valley region. Requirements include a Bachelor s degree with specialization in business, public relations or human resources, and at least 1-2 years of related experience as a human resource generalist or workforce development professional; proficient computer skills and social media knowledge. A. PRIMARY FUNCTION AND RELATIONSHIP TO TOTAL ORGANIZATION: Proactively plans, develops, and implements workforce development initiatives related to workforce recruitment and retention for the benefit of Cedar Valley businesses and institutions, and as outlined by the Greater Cedar Valley Alliance s Annual Plan of Work. The Workforce Development Coordinator will advocate for Cedar Valley employer s interests in relation to workforce and education. B. REPORTS TO: Vice President of Economic Development C. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Regular attendance is required. 2. Workforce Development Programs a. Create, lead & execute events and programs to address workforce shortages and openings in select occupations. b. Educate graduating students from Iowa and Midwestern colleges/universities about internship and permanent job opportunities in the Cedar Valley. c. Provide information to businesses on best practices to retain and recruit a qualified workforce. d. Lead, manage and maintain the Alliance & Chamber s online job board, and related social media related to workforce recruitment and retention on the organization s behalf. e. Manage the execution of the Alliance & Chamber Diversity & Inclusion Initiative to promote and encourage a diverse workforce. f. Track and report effectiveness of workforce development programs, making adjustments as necessary. 3. Workforce Data a. Create, lead & execute workforce surveys to determine job openings and skills requirements of businesses, and develop and execute programs to address those needs. b. Provide workforce development research and information including but not limited to gathering and interpreting surveys directed at wages, benefits and workforce gaps. c. Assist the VP of Economic Development and Director of Business Retention with workforce development information related to business recruitment and retention. d. Provide information and/or make presentations to civic groups and businesses regarding workforce development issues, programs, services and plans. 4. Workforce Collaboration a. Promote and advocate the Skilled Iowa Program to businesses and employees. b. Develop, coordinate and implement a community welcoming program and relocation materials in collaboration with Cedar Valley Region Partners, CVB s and other Chambers serving the region. c. Work closely with local HR professionals and other partners on behalf of the Alliance & Chamber to identify and develop tools employers need to recruit and retain a talented workforce. d. Maintain and cultivate relationships with regional educational institutions to ensure a successful future workforce pipeline for relevant demanded skills and disciplines. e. Assist the Director of Business Retention with providing immediate action to significant layoffs in the Cedar Valley Region for displaced workers in cooperation with Iowa Works, Regional economic development partners, and others as necessary. f. Serve as a member representing the Alliance & Chamber on public and private sector groups or task forces that promote workforce development. 5. All other duties as assigned by supervisor. D. REQUIREMENTS: 1. At least 1-2 years of related experience as a human resource generalist or workforce development professional. Knowledge of the private sector workforce system and educational program development a plus. Bachelor s degree, with specialization in business, public relations or human resources. 2. Comprehensive knowledge of business development, factors affecting business and community vitality. 3. monkey and similar survey platforms. 4. Proficient in social media applications for business & promotion. (i.e. Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn.) 5. Proven organizational abilities, customer service, and time-management skills. 6. Ability to collect and evaluate data & information and formulate a course of action related to workforce development. 7. High level of accuracy and attention to detail required. 8. Highly self-motivated with the ability to multi-task effectively. 9. The ability to equally take direction, work independently and work in teams. 10. Ability to maintain confidential information and materials. 11. Ability to read, write and speak fluent English. 12. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form, including groups and individuals, state and federal agency representatives and legislative bodies. E. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 1. Sit, walk, and stand: The individual in this position spends approximately 50% of the day sitting while completing paperwork, utilizing computer, etc. Approximately 50% of the day is spent standing and/or walking to other areas retrieving files, using office equipment, etc. 2. Bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl: Occasionally will be required to obtain materials from bottom file drawer or retrieve materials from low areas. 3. Reach, finger, and feel: Must have good manual dexterity for this position. Must be able to complete paperwork, document in ledgers, translate information into the computer, etc. 4. Climb and/or balance: Not required with any frequency, for this position. 5. Lift, carry, push, and pull: The individual in this position normally lifts and carries objects not weighing more than ten pounds, generally files or small office supplies and equipment. 6. See and hear: Must have adequate visual acuity to translate information into the computer and complete manual documentation, this required on an almost continual basis. 1. Works primarily indoors in a well-illuminated, climate-controlled environment. 2. Involves possibility of exposure to communicable disease. 3. Works with frequent interruptions. 4. In state & out-of-state travel required, with weighted time spent outside of the office in the Cedar Valley metro and region.
