VOLUNTEERISM The UN, in GA resolution 56/38, defines volunteerism as an activity undertaken out of free will, for the general public good where monetary reward is not the principal motivating factor. 08/01/2016 2
Volunteerism can help to expand and mobilize constituencies and to engage people in national planning and implementation for sustainable development goals. And volunteer groups can help to localize the new agenda by providing new areas of interaction between Governments and people for concrete and scalable action. UNGA resolution in November 2015 3

AGRIPO Since June 2014, more than 100 UN Online Volunteers have been collaborating with Agriculteurs Professionels du Cameroun (AGRIPO), a community-led innovative rural development programme operating in the village of Tayap, situated in the rainforest of the Congo. Tayap s 254 inhabitants, most of whom are farmers, recognized the need to change their practices in order to preserve their environment and the village land. Online Volunteering has eliminated the need for volunteerism to be tied to specific times and locations, thus greatly increasing the freedom & flexibility of volunteer engagement. 13
