A few facts To help you see how our apprenticeship schemes compare with going to university, here are some useful facts about each option: University Santander Apprenticeship Start with an apprenticeship There s a lot of pressure on young people these days to make big decisions before they ve even finished school or college. For many, that means applying for universities, but that s not the only route to a successful career. An apprenticeship with Santander strikes the balance between earning and learning. Crucially, it means young people don t have to begin their careers with the burden of a large student debt. We offer tailored training and development programmes and the potential for permanent, full-time employment on successful completion. As a parent or advisor to a young person considering their future, you can t decide their career for them but you can help them realise it. It s likely you know the applicant better than most maybe in ways even they haven t considered. That can make all the difference at the start of a career, especially when they haven t much firsthand interview experience. Encourage them to think about how they structure the answers to the questions we ask, so that they give the best possible answer. Researching and practicing the STAR technique situation, task, activity, result is a really effective way to ensure they re fully answering the questions. Our behaviours also play a big part in our hiring process, so discussing how you see these behaviours in them may just help them shine in an interview! Degree-level and Higher Apprenticeships Entry-level schemes Digital technology Finance Customer Service Financial Crime Our four-year Digital Technology degreelevel apprenticeship is the perfect place to influence the future of financial technology. Apprentices here will learn the technical and business skills they ll need to succeed. With a wide range of traditional, digital and on the job learning, they ll gradually become a trusted expert, ready to progress in a way that s right for them all while earning a sought-after degree. HR Our three-year HR apprenticeship programme is an opportunity to influence a pioneering HR team. By rotating to multiple areas within the businesses, apprentices here will gain exposure to a wide range of processes, ideas and colleagues. By the time they ve earned their industry-recognised CIPD qualification, they ll be a key part of the team, and a potential future HR leader. Our higher-level Finance apprenticeship programme, which lasts up to four years is designed to bring together a range of finance and commercial disciplines. With a balance of technical competence and intellectual and emotional skills, we re helping young people grow into future Finance leaders. Apprentices here will work on important Finance deliverables from day one, making this the perfect place to learn the inner workings of one of the world s leading banks. Aaron Kidd Technology Degree Apprentice Our Customer Service apprenticeship programme provides everything young people need to launch a fast-moving career within one of Britain s biggest banks. Over the 12-18 month programme they will enjoy a mixture of classroom and on-the-job training, apprentices here will quickly gain the skills and qualifications required to get ahead. That starts with a crash course in what banks do, and how the financial industry operates and is regulated. Along the way, they ll learn about risk management, best practice and great customer service, all with a focus on understanding our customers and helping people and businesses prosper. Our 20 month Financial Crime apprenticeship is the first step in a fast-paced paced career. It s all about protecting our customers, shareholders, and the communities that support us from increasingly complex threats. It comes down to more than money. Financial crime funds a wide range of criminal activities that put real people at risk every day, including terrorist activities, human trafficking and arms dealing. For talented people that are ready to make a difference, there s no better place to make it happen. It s very rewarding when I look at the position I ve got to in just 4 years. Career development From their very first day our apprentices are supported with the training they need to thrive across a variety of business areas. That includes unlimited access to our online learning portal, which provides training information and practical training exercises on a diverse range of subjects. Each apprenticeship here is based on several cycles, each using different learning styles and supported by a dedicated training provider. That could include online courses, classroom-style learning and face-to-face events, all supported by on the job experience. Over time, apprentices earn a relevant, sought-after qualification, designed to kickstart their career in a direction that s right for them.
