13th international hydroinformatics conference 1-6 july 2018 palermo italy CALL FOR SESSIONS

The 13th International Conference on Hydroinformatics, HIC2018 Water and environmental challenges in a changing world will be held in Palermo (Italy), 1 6 July 2018. CALL FOR SESSIONS Introduction to the conference The University of Palermo and the University of Enna Kore are pleased to invite the hydroinformatics international community to the 13th International Conference on Hydroinformatics (HIC 2018). Hydroinformatics is a branch of informatics which concentrates on the application of information and communications technologies (ICTs) in addressing the increasingly serious problems of the equitable and efficient use of water for many different purposes. Hydroinformatics scientific community is continuously growing and its interests are widening from numerical modelling to the development of new sensors and tools, the interpretation of increasing amounts of data, the analysis and management of complex systems, the integration of models, data and controls for practical applications. Today, multi-disciplinarity is the key for the sustainable management of water resources. The work of the IAHR/ IWA Joint Committee on Hydroinformatics and of several International Water Association Specialist Groups has demonstrated the importance of knowledge integration among scientists, practitioners and technology experts in order to tackle the complex challenges of water management in a changing world. HIC 2018 seeks to create a forum for exchanging ideas, for promoting ground-breaking technologies, for proposing new extensive collaborations, for finding new solutions for water management and environment preservation.

Format of Special Sessions To best align special sessions with the conference program, their preferred duration should be multiples of 75 minutes. The format is open and should correspond to the goal of the special sessions. For example, it could be: g a dedicated special session, with invited presenters and authors only, serving to facilitate discussion among the leading experts, g collaborative sessions with presentations of collaborative efforts of researchers or working groups, or of large transdisciplinary projects, g poster sessions on a particular subject, potentially accompanied with flash presentations How Can I Convene a Special Session? Special sessions can be proposed by any conference participant, who is ideally representing a technical/scientific interest group. Each special session should have one convener and one to three co-conveners from at least two different institutes and countries. Also both gender diversity as well as the inclusion of early career scientists/young professionals is encouraged. Contributions to Special Sessions Special sessions will be open to all conference participants and will be included in the call for papers. Thus the special sessions will be open to external contributions. Participants registration to the special sessions will follow the general conference registration procedure and rules. Responsibility of Conveners Conveners and co-conveners will be responsible for the review and selection of submitted papers, as well as for the chairing of their special session. Steps to Propose your own Special Session Special sessions proposals should contain: g Title of the special session g Conference Theme and sub-theme that better suite the special session g Names of the convener and co-conveners including affiliations g Description of the special sessions topic including arguments concerning its novelty / innovation, topicality, benefits to the audience, and the future impact on the field of water and environment (max 2000 characters) g Targeted group of participants (max 1000 characters) g List of potential contributors (including affiliation) g Proposed format of the special session including the duration (max 500 characters) The proposal can only be submitted via E-mail to info@hic2018.org and gabriele.freni@unikore.it. Deadline for Submission 31th July 2017 Final Selection of Special Sessions All proposals are subject to review by the Programme Committee which reserves the right to select special sessions which best complement the conference program. This might include merging relevant proposals into a single Special Session or revising the focus or description of the suggested special sessions.
