Abstrak tesis yang dikemukakan kepada Senat Universiti Malaysia Terengganu sebagai syarat memenuhi Ijazah Sarjana Sains RAWATAN AIR SISA KILANG PEMBUATAN BENANG MENGGUNAKAN REAKTOR SESEKUMPUL BERJUJUKAN (SBR) SEPTEMBER 2015 Penyelia Pusat Pengajian : Profesor. Ir. Ahmad bin Jusoh, Ph.D. : Pusat Pengajian Kejuruteraan Kelautan Aktiviti pemprosesan tekstil dalam menghasilkan benang melalui teknik klorin- Hercosett digunakan bagi mengubah sifat asal serat seperti anti-pengecutan serta boleh dibasuh mesin. Bahan yang sering digunakan dalam teknik ini ialah gas klorin, resin serta beberapa jenis bahan kimia lain. Penggunaan pelbagai jenis bahan kimia dalam proses ini menghasilkan air sisa berasid dengan bebanan organik yang tinggi. Teknologi sedia ada yang digunakan oleh kilang bagi merawat air sisa iaitu kaedah koagulasi-flokulasi adalah tidak efektif kerana air sisa terawat masih mempunyai kandungan permintaan oksigen kimia (COD) yang tinggi. Kandungan COD yang tinggi dalam air sisa terawat memberikan kesan negatif kepada alam sekitar serta menjadi masalah kepada kilang. Selain itu, kaedah ini juga menghasilkan sisa pepejal dalam kuantiti yang banyak justeru meningkatkan kos dalam pengendalian pelan rawatan sedia ada. SBR sebagai salah satu teknologi alternatif rawatan biologi dalam merawat air sisa keluaran industri dibina dengan berbentuk i

silinder dan isipadu kerja sebanyak 5 L bagi digunakan sebagai kaedah rawatan air sisa dalam kajian ini. Enapcemar teraktif diambil dari pelan rawatan kumbahan air sisa domestik dan dijadikan kultur dalam SBR. Fasa penyesuaiikliman SBR dengan air sisa kilang berjaya mencapai penyingkiran COD melebihi 80 % bagi sepanjang fasa melalui strategi suap masuk berperingkat. Kajian operasi rawatan dilakukan melalui kepelbagaian kadar bebanan organik (OLR) air sisa menunjukkan OLR 0.7 kg COD/m 3 /hari mencapai peratus penyingkiran COD paling tinggi iaitu sebanyak 90% dan nilai COD efluen ialah sebanyak 115 mg/l. Kinetik tertib sifar, pertama dan kedua digunakan ke atas penurunan COD pada ketika fasa tindak balas pengudaraan. Berdasarkan nilai r 2 untuk kesemua OLR bagi SBR dan EM- SBR menunjukkan penurunan COD adalah mengikut kinetik tertib kedua dengan nilai r 2 adalah melebihi 0.92. Berdasarkan ujian statistik kadar penurunan substrak air sisa menunjukkan keadaan terbaik untuk kedua-dua SBR dan EM-SBR adalah pada OLR 0.7 kg COD/m 3 /hari dan ianya juga menunjukkan tiada peningkatan yang begitu ketara terhadap prestasi rawatan COD iaitu hanya peningkatan sebanyak 1.3% kadar penurunan direkodkan EM-SBR berbanding rawatan SBR. ii

Abstract of thesis presented to the Senate of Universiti Malaysia Terengganu in fulfillment of the requirement for the degree of Master of Science TREATMENT OF WOOL WASHING WASTEWATER USING SEQUENCING BATCH REACTOR (SBR) SEPTEMBER 2015 Supervisor School : Professor. Ir. Ahmad bin Jusoh, Ph.D. : School of Ocean Engineering Textile producing activities in producing yarn through chlorine-hercosett technique used to change the properties of fiber such as anti-shrinkage and machine washable. The most frequent materials used in this technique are chlorine gas, resin and other chemicals. Uses of various chemicals in this process produce acidic waste water with high organic load. Existing technologies used by the plant for treating wastewater comprising coagulationflocculation method is not effective because the treated waste water still has a high content of chemical oxygen demand (COD). High COD content in the treated waste water give the negative impact on the environment and factory. Moreover, this method also generates solid waste in large quantities and therefore increased cost in existing treatment plant. SBR as an alternative to biological treatment technology to treat industrial waste water were built with a cylindrical and working volume of 5 L was used as the method of wastewater treatment in this research. Activated sludge collected from a sewage treatment iii

plant and culture in SBR. Acclimatization of SBR with wastewater achieved its COD removal of more than 80% for each phase through step-feed strategies. Study treatment operations performed through the several of organic loading rate (OLR) of wastewater and OLR of 0.7 kg COD/ m 3 /day achieved the highest percentage of COD removal of 90% and the effluent COD was 115 mg/l. Zero, first and second order kinetics applied to the reduction of COD on oxidizing reaction phase. Based on the r 2 for all OLR for SBR and EM-SBR showed a decrease in COD is by second order kinetics with r 2 values were above 0.92. Based on statistical test substrate degradation rate of the wastewater showed the best condition for both SBR and EM-SBR is the OLR of 0.7 kg COD/m 3 /day and also showed no significant increase of the COD treatment performance with an increase of 1.3% reduction rate recorded by EM-SBR compared to SBR treatment. iv
