Meeting of the Enlarged Contact Group UIC/FIATA 12-13 May 2016, Shenzhen, China Overview of UNESCAP Activities related to Intermodal Transport and Logistics Fedor Kormilitsyn Economic Affairs Officer Transport Division, UNESCAP

The long-term vision for the development of the region s transport Mandated by ESCAP Ministerial Conferences on Transport (2001 2006 2012) developing an international integrated intermodal transport and logistics system that contributes to long-term objective of regional cooperation in support of sustainable development The system combines the advantages of each mode of transport to achieve the balanced integration of economic, social and environmental benefits. Comprehensive, holistic and integrated approach is needed to develop the system. Comprehensive and integrated strategy to incorporate and coordinate different elements of the system for accomplishing the common goal of sustainable development. Each element contributes to the whole system and bears the requirements of other elements and sustainable development.

Thematic areas of work related to development of international integrated intermodal transport and logistics system Transport infrastructure: Asian Highway, Trans-Asian Railway and Dry Ports to form an integrated intermodal network Transport facilitation: Facilitation and logistics to open more routes and enable efficient operations of the network Transport policy: Policies to support the development of intermodal transport system

Trans-Asian Railway The identified network TAR route-km Existing: Missing links: Total: 106,500 km 10,500 km 117,000 km

Asian Highway The identified network AH route-km Existing: 142,000 km
