Where higher levels are required other design considerations can be adopted, such as etending partitions into the ceiling void or installing a plenum barrier. Design Planning - key factors Ceilings should be set out from the centre to give balanced widths of tiles at the perimeter. A number of grid layouts are possible, depending on the grid selected and the choice of ceiling tile or plank. See Construction details - 8 for alternative configurations. NB Designers and installers should take due regard of EN 964, suspended ceiling - requirements and test methods. Relative humidity (RH) The grid is suitable for use in occupied buildings in conditions up to 90% relative humidity (RH90). However, Gyptone tiles and planks are only suitable up to RH70. Cavity barriers Where cavity barriers are required, they can be formed using Gyproc FireStop screw-fied to a simple metal frame. The framing should be fied to the structure to avoid undue loading of the ceiling suspension grid. The bottom of the framework should be fied to the ceiling grid. Fire-stopping It is necessary to provide suitable non-combustible fire-stopping material at the junction of a cavity barrier with the structural perimeter and the ceiling. Fire-stopping must also be provided around any service penetrations through the cavity barrier. Fitures Unperforated Gyptone ceiling tiles will support a point load of up to kg / tile for maimum mm deflection (kg / tile for D edge tiles). This will normally allow items such as spotlights and down-lighters to be installed without the need for a support pattress. A support pattress should, however, be installed where the prevailing environmental conditions eceed 5 C and RH70, or where the size of the cut-out required is greater than 50mm diameter or 50mm square. Perforated tiles should not be used to support fitures. Apertures for spotlights and down-lighters can be cut into Gyptone ceiling tiles using a circular tank cutter on a power drill or using a pad saw. The Gyptone T4D grid should not be point-loaded with more than kg between points of suspension. Distributed loads may be ma. kg/m of section. Built-in light fittings that are placed between grid sections are suspended separately. Gyptone plank installed in the Gyptone TI5 grid must not be loaded. Light fittings and other fitures should be independently supported. If mineral wool is placed above the ceiling, the maimum self-supporting distance is reduced to 800mm. Hangers should be used for increased spans Services The ceiling void above the suspension grid can be used to route all service requirements including ducting, pipework, electrical cables, and conduits. Ducting, ventilation units, etc, must be independently supported from the structure. Maintenance Ceiling tiles and planks can be cleaned using a damp cloth or soft brush. Most standard mild detergents can be used. Tiles can be re-decorated if required using a suitable emulsion paint and a short-haired brush or roller (spray painting will impair sound absorption). Gyptone tiles with Activ Air Though we don t notice them, impurities are often present in the air we breathe emitted from furniture, carpets and building materials. Long-term eposure to these can potentially cause health problems and reduce general wellbeing. Clean air, on the other hand, can speed up patient recovery in hospitals, reduce absence at work, and increase pupils concentration at school. Activ Air is our latest innovative technology that improves indoor air quality by permanently removing formaldehyde circulating indoors. Formaldehyde concentration will be reduced by 70% when m of Activ Air is installed per m. 90

Installation of API Cross-Lock Unipro and Gyptone D edge tiles 00 mm A The placement of the wall angle should be marked with a bubble level/chalk line and mounted with a flatheaded screw suitable for the foundation per ma. 00 mm, the first screw one no more than 50 mm from a corner. The wall angle should not be shorter than 00 mm. Cut the profiles in close mitre at the corner joint. If the foundation is uneven mount a thin wooden list behind the wall angle. B Hangers for the main beams should be placed in rows per 00 mm. The first main beam ma. 00 mm from the wall. First hanger in main beam ma. 00 mm. from the wall. The other hangers per ma. 00 mm. See page 95. The hook of the hanger is squeezed together with a pair of Pliers. The hangers should be adjusted, so the main beam is elevated 44 mm above the wall angle. C At the longitudinal assembly of the main beams the couplings should be pushed together until they click. D The cross-lock connectors are to be placed with a center distance of 600 mm on the main beam (maimum 600 mm from the wall). The tap in the connector should aligned with the vertically slot in the main beam. The connectors should be pushed down on the main beam until they click. E Connect the cross profile to the main beam, by twisting the cross profile onto the cross-lock connector. This is done by placing the legs of the connector into the dedicated cut-outs on the cross profile. F For safety and for a stabile connection between the main beam and the cross profile, fold the locking mechanism on the cross lock connector with a pair of Pliers. 9

Installation of API Cross-Lock Unipro and Gyptone D edge tiles (continued) G 6 mm Make final adjustments to the grid system, to make sure that the cross profiles is elevated 6 mm above the wall angle, like seen in the lower right corner. H This means that the cross profiles and main beams are located above the wall angle. Ones the grid system is adjusted, every second main beam should be connected to the wall with a connecting bracket. This is due to better stability in the grid system. I When installing the Gyptone edge D, use cotton gloves. Lift one side of the tile, the E edge, up above the cross profile. Then slide the opposite side of the tile, the D edge, into the opposite cross profile. When the tile is mounted in the grid system, it can be slide into place. Be careful not to damage the tiles during installation. All tiles a demountable after installation. All installations should be finished before mounting the D tiles. Always start in the center of the room, when laying the tiles into the grid system. J When mounting the last tile against the wall, place wall springs for each tile. The short side of the spring is squeezed down between the wall angle and the wall. The wall springs is installed before the last tiles are laid into the grid system. K The last tile against the wall, should be cut into size with either a saw or a knife. It is important to protect the front side of the tile, to avoid any damage to the painted surface. The tiles should not be cut with an undersized of more than ma. 5 mm. L Gyptone edge D installed in concealed Cross-Lock Unipro 4 mm grid system. 94

5 Installation of API grid system and Gyptone Xtensiv 00 mm A The placement of the shadow moulding is marked with a bubble level/chalk line and mounted with a flatheaded screw suitable for the foundation per ma. 00 mm, the first one no more than 50 mm from a corner. The shadow mouldings should not be shorter than 00 mm. Cut the profiles in close mitre at the corner joint. If the foundation is uneven mount a thin wooden list behind the wall angle. B Hangers for the main beams are placed in rows per 00 mm. The first main beam ma. 00 mm from the wall. First hanger in main beam ma. 00 from the wall. The other hangers per ma. 00 mm. See the illustration to the right. The hook of the hanger is squeezed together with a pair of nippers. C At the longitudinal assembly of the main beams the couplings should be pushed together until they click D The cross lock connectors are to be placed with a centre distance of 00 mm on the main beam. The tap in the connector should aligned with the vertically slot in the main beam. The connectors should be pushed down on the main beam until they click. E Connect the cross profile to the main beam, by twisting the cross profile onto the cross connector. This is done by placing the legs of the connector into the dedicated cut-outs on the cross profile. F For safety and for a stabile connection between the main beam and the cross profile, fold the locking mechanism on the cross lock connector with a pair of nippers. 96

Installation of API grid system and Gyptone Xtensiv (continued) G Adjust the entire grid system, so the cross profiles is laying on the top step of the shadow moulding, like seen in the lower right corner. This means that the main profiles are located above the shadow moulding. Ones the grid system is adjusted, every second main beam should be connected to the wall for stability. This is done with an connecting bracket. H When installing the Gyptone Xtensiv, use cotton gloves. Lift one side of the Xtensiv up above the grid system. Then there is enough space to lift the other side of the Xtensiv up, laying it in place on the opposite cross profile. All installations should be finished before mounting the Xtensiv plates. I It is possible to slide the Xtensiv along the cross profiles, ones it is in place in the grid system. This is needed when installing the Xtensiv plates in the perimeter of the room. J Gyptone Xtensiv can be shortened with a knife. It is possible to shorten the Xtensiv by cutting in the perforated area, if it is necessary. It is not recommended to cut in the perforated area of an Xtensiv Line, as cutting into the Line perforation will weaken the Xtensiv. K In case lighting fittings are planned, supporting profiles have to be mounted using the light fitting XT. This bracket is needed to give the Xtensiv ceiling the same visual appearance regarding the light installation, as the photo on the front page of the installation manual. The position of the brackets is related of the light fitting and ceiling layout. The light fitting XT needs to be secured with Gyproc Wafer Head Screws. To support the cut in the main beam, place a hanger near the light fitting XT. L It is also possible to make a 600600 mm recess, for a light fitting in the Xtensiv ceiling system. The method is shown on page 98. Page 98 shows the possible connections between the cross profile and the cross tee. In case of a square recess in the Xtensiv ceiling, the recess should be placed between the main profiles and not under the main profiles. 97
