Technical Data Sheet PARALOID EXL-3815 IMPACT MODIFIER (21518XP) Maleic Anhydride (MAH) Grafted Polyolefin for Polyamide Applications Regional Availability Introduction Asia Pacific, Europe Very high-flow polyamide compounds are often desired on the market for a wide variety of injection-moulding applications, such as thin-walled components in the electrical, electronics and automotive areas. Higher flow also enables shorter injection moulding cycle times which is also key to improve productivity and costs, a constant quest in the industry. Rubbers, although required for improving mechanical properties such as impact strength, usually affect the melt viscosity in a negative fashion. A new generation impact modifier, PARALOID EXL-3815, has been developed by Dow Plastics Additives, and yields a much better retention of flow properties compared to standard modifiers. PARALOID EXL-3815 also takes the impact performance of polyamide compounds to the next level, enabling new applications unforeseen so far. Description PARALOID EXL-3815 Impact Modifier is a low crystallinity ethylene-octene copolymer functionalized with maleic anhydride (MAH) by reactive extrusion. PARALOID EXL-3815 displays excellent compatibility and bonding with polyamide matrices. It is highly versatile and provides excellent performance in PA6, 66 and glass-reinforced compositions. Its low Tg, below 50 C, ensures outstanding performance at low temperatures. Its fully saturated backbone results in good thermal and oxidative stability. Product Performance As can be seen from the graph below, PARALOID EXL-3815 Impact Modifier yields a higher melt flow in polyamide 6 compared to a standard modifier at equivalent addition level. A twofold improvement is observed at 20% loading. However, this improvement does not come at the expense of impact performance: PARALOID EXL-3815 offers significantly enhanced impact strength from low addition levels up to high loadings (e.g. 25%). Product Performance (cont d) A +24% flow length is also measured with a compound based on 20% PARALOID EXL-3815 Impact Modifier, when injection-moulded into a spiral mould, as shown by the pictures below, thus corroborating the improved behaviour observed in the melt index test. +24% flow length The graph below illustrates the performance profile for PARALOID EXL-3815, highlighting especially enhanced impact strength at sub-zero temperature and flow, compared to a standard modifier. Product Performance (cont d) Glass-fiber reinforced polyamides are also crucially important on the market, and also there, a high flow becomes key for moulders. The following graph shows essentially improved flow and impact strength for a 10% addition level in a composition containing 30% short glass fibers. Flexural Modulus (MPa) MVI (cc/10min) 9 Nii @RT @RT(J/m) (J/m) 7144 6952 7 222 220 Elongation at break (%) 3,6 3,7 7683 7782 202 202 126 133 Nii @-30ºC @-30 C(J/m) Tensile Modulus (MPa) HDT ( C) PA6/GF30 + Standard Modifier PA6/GF30 + PARALOID EXL - 3815 Page 3 of 6

Product Performance (cont d) Being a highly versatile additive, PARALOID EXL-3815 also provides excellent performance in PA66, as can be seen from the graph below, with similar flow advantages than those provided in polyamide 6. PARALOID EXL-3815 gives a MFR of 21 g/10mn at 280 C/2,16kg versus 5 for the standard rubber used. strength @ RT ( J/m) 1200 1000 800 600 400 200 20 % Loading PARALOID Paraloid EXL-3815 EXL-3815 Standard modifier 0-40 -30-20 -10 0 10 20 30 Temperature ( C) Page 4 of 6

Regulatory Information Processing Information PARALOID EXL-3815 Impact Modifier is food contact approved according to European Directive on Food Packaging 2002/72/EC, and FDA regulations. PARALOID EXL-3815 Impact Modifier is supplied in a dust-free pellet form, easy to handle. It can be mixed with polyamide granules. PARALOID EXL-3815 is easily dispersed into polyamides by controlled addition of the additive during melt mixing in a twin screw extruder, using standard heating profile used for polyamide resins. Storage Handling Precautions Store products in tightly closed original containers at temperatures recommended on the product label.
