Position in the educational system Logistics Management, Master Course, is a single course in Business Administration at second cycle. The course can be studied after having completed 180 higher education credits (hec), of which at least 90 hec in Business Administration, including a Bachelor Thesis of 15 hec, and prerequisites in the area of logistics as specified below. Swedish students study the course together with FEA417 Logistics, Master Thesis 15 hec. The course FEA4L7 is also offered to visiting students. It can also be a part of the Business Program at the School of Business, Economics and Law. Main field of studies Business Administration Specialization A1N, Second cycle, has only first-cycle course/s as entry requirements 3. Entry requirements To be eligible for the course FEA4L7, in a packet together with FEA417 Logistics, Master Thesis 15 hec, at least 180 hec are required, of which a minimum of 75 hec in Business Administration, including a Bachelor Thesis of 15 hec. The student must also fulfill the following special requirements: a minimum of 7.5 hec in logistics, operations management or equivalent.

Course content The course consists of two theoretical units of 7.5 higher education credits (hec) each; Retailing, Wholesaling and Logistics, 7.5 hec and International Trade and Logistics, 7.5 hec. 4.1 Retailing, Wholesaling and Logistics, 7.5 higher education credits This course unit covers different perspectives of the Wholesaling and Retailing operations and management. Focus is on the logistic functions from a supply chain perspective. The course unit ranges from high-level goals and strategies to operative control. The course unit first describes and analyses the logistics of the total wholesaling retailing system. Secondly the focus will be on in store logistics and operations. The idea of the course unit is also to compare and analyse theory and the practical operations of the system. The course unit includes sections that strengthen the generic skills of the students. Analytical skills are acquired by solving theoretical and practical assignments. Oral and written communication skills, as well as training in information search are acquired through written group assignments, which are presented and discussed orally. Presentations by practitioners increase the student understanding of the issues facing management in retailing and wholesaling organisations. Upon completion of the course unit the student will 1. have a good understanding and knowledge about the wholesaling and retailing logistics and operations. 2. have a good understanding of in store logistics. 3. have the ability to discuss and analyse the logistics of the wholesaling and retailing system. The qualitative targets for a Master of Science (60 credits) in Business Administration relate to the courses learning outcomes. Learning outcome 2 is assessed through a written case assignment and a written exam. Learning outcome 3 is assessed through a written case assignment, oral presentation and a written exam. In order to pass the course unit the student must receive pass on all three learning outcomes.
The written exam is worth 60% of the total points that are possible to achieve on the course unit and the written case assignment and oral presentation is worth 40% of the total points that are possible to achieve on the course unit. 3/ 5 Due to limited resources, the written case assignment and oral presentation can only be assessed at fixed examination sessions during the course period. Grading scale The grades are Pass with Distinction (väl godkänd, VG), Pass (godkänd, G) or Fail (underkänd, U). For Pass on the course unit, Pass is required for all three learning outcomes. Pass is therefore required on both the written assignment and the written exam. For Pass with Distinction, 75% of the total of the points that are possible to achieve will be needed as well as pass on all learning outcomes. 4.2 International Trade and Logistics, 7.5 higher education credits This course unit deals with the transactional and logistical aspects of international trade and the interactions between them. The course unit starts with an overview of international trade and covers among other things the function of international trade, the major international freight flows, trade blocks and trade unions, and the organizational infrastructure of international trade. The transactional aspects of international trade deals with export market entry, export finance, export customs practice, cargo insurance, and credit insurance. The logistical aspects of international trade deals with international transport infrastructure, international transport modes, cargo categories, international load carriers, dangerous cargo shipments, freight rates, and international logistics strategies. After completing the course unit, the student will be able to: 1. describe the context and function of international trade. 2. analyze the logistical and transactional aspects of international trade and export management 3. reflect around the different actors roles and interest in international trade. 4. critically analyze the procedures when selling and exporting products between two countries, by doing a project assignment which will result in a written report and presented orally in class. The students will then be able to: - analyze trade statistics - analyze and evaluate real and relevant issues concerning export and import procedures including flows of documents, information and monetary (all procedures) in combination with cultural differences. - critically reason around specific product areas and trade barriers concerning the relation between two countries.
The qualitative targets for a Master of Science (60 credits) in Business Administration relate to the courses learning outcomes. 4/ 5 Qualitative target Knowledge and understanding 1+2 Skills and abilities 2+3+4 Judgement and approach 3+4 Assessment The examination consists of a written exam (weight 60 % in the final grade) and of writing and presenting written assignments (weight 40% in the final grade). The written exam will be given at the completion of the course unit. The learning outcomes 1-3 are assessed through the written exam, and learning outcome 3+4 through the writing and presentation of a main project assignment. Due to limited resources, the project assignment can only be assessed at a fixed examination session during the course period. Grading scale The grades are Pass with Distinction (väl godkänd, VG), Pass (godkänd, G) or Fail (underkänd, U). For Pass on the course unit, 50% of the total of the points that are possible to achieve will be needed. For Pass with Distinction, 75% of the total of the points that are possible to achieve will be needed. 5. 8. Grading scale The grading scale comprises Fail (U), Pass (G), Pass with Distinction (VG). For Pass, Pass on both course units is required. For Pass with Distinction, the requirements are a Pass with Distinction on at least one of two course units and at least Pass with a minimum of 60 % of the total points on the other course unit. 5/ 5 A student who has failed a test twice has the right to apply for a change of examiner at the department of Business Administration. 9. Course evaluation Each course unit is evaluated in writing by the students. 10. Additional information Language of instruction: English. The course was given for the first time in the spring term of 2008. Overlapping with other courses might occur. Such courses cannot be included in the same degree.
