Fertiliser Services PolyNPlus The revolutionary foliar fertiliser range Dramatically increases the efficiency of nitrogen usage by plants Virtually eliminates nitrogen losses
This product ticks all the boxes on an environmental front. I applied it along with crop protection products which saved another pass. This meant that I was able to get the right quantity on at the correct time. The yields and quality of the products we harvested were excellent. I applied PolyNPlus in all conditions, even when it was very hot and had absolutely no scorch. I believe PolyNPlus is the future. Paul Jannaway, Wiltshire contractor working with several large landowners.
About BFS PolyNPlus A revolutionary product range that dramatically increases the efficiency of nitrogen usage by plants and virtually eliminates nitrate losses. This is at a time when the industry is urgently seeking means of defusing the so-called nitrate time bomb. There is increasing evidence from international research that foliar-applied fertiliser, which avoids complex soil chemistry, dramatically reduces the impact on the environment, whilst proving a far more efficient method of feeding plants during their growing phase. BFS Fertiliser Services is a leading crop nutrition specialist and, for some years, has been working on developing foliar-applied nitrogen products. It has now launched a revolutionary range of foliar fertilisers. The new BFS PolyNPlus range of products represents a significant breakthrough in the industry s efforts to enhance nitrogen efficiency and reduce dramatically the potential of nitrates in the soil and groundwater. Formulated with urea polymers, sulphur and selected trace elements, PolyNPlus has four major new advantages: n It reduces the amount of nitrogen needed. n It virtually eliminates nitrate losses. n It is safe to apply to the crop. n It can be tank-mixed with a wide range of crop protection products. The PolyNPlus range includes standard popular mixes such as: 30-0-0-18SO3+MgO+Mn. In addition, BFS is uniquely able to offer PolyNPlus formulated to contain the specific trace elements required by an individual farmer or agronomist, thus ensuring the crop gets its exact needs. These advantages ensure crop productivity is maximised and costs are saved, while the potential for nitrate pollution is virtually eradicated.
The nitrate time bomb Nitrogen has long been recognised as a vital ingredient in optimising crop yields. However, it is also well known that much of soil-applied nitrogen at least 50% never reaches the crop. This means that a high proportion of nitrogen is lost in volatilisation, and leaching in the form of nitrates. Nitrates are widely known to be a serious cause of environmental pollution, with a significant negative impact on aquatic biodiversity. Over 60% of all nitrates found in water originate from agricultural land and, due to the acknowledged medical risks posed by high nitrate consumption, must be removed, at high cost, from drinking water. The problem is now so severe in the UK that it has become known as the nitrate time bomb and the government has given a clear warning that nitrate pollution of the environment must be addressed as a matter of urgency. Agriculture therefore faces a major challenge to ensure crops obtain the nitrogen they need to be economically productive without any damage to the environment.
Meeting the challenge of crop nutrition For any farmer wanting to maximise productivity in an environmentally sustainable way, PolyNPlus fertilisers are the way forward. They provide a controlled release of nitrogen in a form much more easily absorbed by the crop than traditional products. They also have improved leaf adhesion, so dramatically reduce volatilisation and leaching, and therefore the potential impact of fertilisers on the environment. When applied, the polymer solution s adhesive quality coats the leaf without run-off. Farmers testing PolyNPlus for the first time in 2017 reported significant increases in yield. They also found that PolyNPlus increased crop protein levels when used later in the season and that it was very easy to use. The nitrogen component in PolyNPlus is in the form of a polymer, which contains molecules of different chain lengths. The shorter molecules assimilate rapidly and are immediately available to the plant whilst the less soluble longer molecules are released more slowly over several weeks. This means PolyNPlus products continue to contribute to the plant s nutritional requirement over a longer period of the growing phase with no loss to groundwater leaching. Because the breakdown process occurs gradually, the plant utilises PolyNPlus most effectively. PolyNPlus is safe for the crops due to its low salt index. Salt levels are one of the main factors responsible for crop damage. Nitrogen release Nitrogen release Time Urea PolyNPlus The nitrogen in PolyNPlus is released to the plant over time, which greatly increases the plant s ability to use the nitrogen efficiently. Importantly, PolyNPlus, which can be applied with standard spray jets (BFS Air Bubble Jets are ideal), can also be used alongside a wide range of crop protection products*, thereby reducing the number of passes needed and saving application costs. PolyNPlus, which should be diluted in the standard volume of water, is suitable for any crop requiring nitrogen throughout the growing season. It can also be particularly advantageous in a dry season, when soilapplied and solid fertilisers tend to be less effective. PolyNPlus is available in 1,000 litre IBC containers from BFS and selected distribution partners throughout the UK and in the Republic of Ireland. *PolyNPlus is known to be physically compatible with a wide range of crop protection products. However, tank mixes are at a farmer s own risk. BFS cannot be responsible for the biological effectiveness of crop protection products.
Features and benefits Product features Liquid foliar formulation More efficient nitrogen use Virtually eliminates nitrate losses Can be tank-mixed with a wide range of regular crop protection products Low salt index Positive yield response Excellent adhesion to plant leaf Can be formulated with a wide range of foliar nutrients Benefits Applied through crop protection sprayers using standard jets (BFS Air Bubble Jets are ideal) Greater uptake by the plant so less nitrogen needs to be applied Reduces the potential of groundwater pollution and environmental damage Fewer passes mean savings in application costs and reduced vehicle exhaust emissions Virtually no risk of scorching the crop Particularly useful when too late to apply liquid fertiliser or in dry conditions when solid fertilisers would not be absorbed Improves absorption levels by the plant and removes losses of product to the environment Enables nutrition to be tailored to local crop needs In May 2017 I still had a field of wheat which required 80kg of nitrogen. It was very dry and I knew the nitrogen wouldn t be taken up in the form of urea. I used 60 litres (18kg of N and 5.4kg of SO3) of PolyNPlus and was amazed by the yield. Ed Ford, Essex farmer.

PolyNPlus usage guidelines n PolyNPlus is an extremely versatile product which can be used on a very wide range of crops and at a variety of growth stages for most of the nutrition needs of the crop. n PolyNPlus is replacing one third to a half of conventional nitrogen applications on a wide range of farms. PolyNPlus has extremely high crop usage efficiency and virtually no nitrate losses. Consequently, it almost eliminates the risk of groundwater pollution. n PolyNPlus is highly compatible with crop protection products, which can therefore be applied in the same pass. When mixing PolyNPlus with other products, refer to the lowest limiting factor for the other products in the mix. n Because PolyNPlus is kind to the crop, it can be applied at a wide range of temperatures, although ideally between 10⁰C and 25⁰C. During dry periods, when conventional nitrogen applications would not be absorbed by the plants, it can be used to boost yield. And, because of its very low salt index, it can be applied in warm weather with less risk of crop scorch. However, for best results, periods of significant drought, intense humidity, frost or rain should be avoided. Please refer to BFS or your agronomist for more information. A failing oilseed rape crop. Ten days after application of 25 litres per hectare of PolyNPlus.
