Lean Data Management for SAP 18 August 2015
Q: Does Winshuttle work with MDM? A: Winshuttle does not work directly with MDM but it does complement the MDM solution offering, for example, typically an organization will implement MDM for the three core master data objects Customer, Vendor and Material and for all the remaining master data and transactional processes, organizations will use Winshuttle e.g. BOM, Equipment, Assets, PR to PO process, Invoicing, HR, Finance master data etc. In fact, in our experience, some organizations use Winshuttle Enterprise in place of an MDM solution where they do not need a centralized hub to filter and transform master data before pushing it to SAP systems. Q: Are there any API calls when Winshuttle connects to SAP? A: Winshuttle connects to SAP using RFC calls. Q: Can Winshuttle forms be deployed in tablets and mobile phones for data entry? A: Winshuttle forms can be designed to form fit tablets and mobile phones whilst designing the Web form. To access this web form on a mobile device, a user will have to launch a browser (all supported) on their tablet or phone. Currently Winshuttle does not have a mobile application which is active on the market place (android or IOS). Q: How do you upload transactional data like purchase requisitions? A: By using the record, map, run methodology in the Winshuttle Studio products you can record any transaction code in ECC. Purchase Requisitions will have multiline items and in the Winshuttle script you can add in a loop to provision multi line item requirements i.e. so that the end user can create PRs with 1 line item or 100 on the same Excel sheet. Q: Does Winshuttle call a BDC in the background for posting data to SAP? A: It performs an RFC for posting data to SAP. Q: Can we create our own scripts using this tool? For example we might have customer defined fields which could be mandatory. A: Once an organization purchases Winshuttle, they can use the products to develop their own custom solutions. As the products are developed for a business analyst persona, with some training it s a very natural process for organizations to develop the scripts and solutions they require without much Winshuttle consulting. On the other hand, if an organization were to require Winshuttle consulting, that is also
available. A field can be made mandatory by creation conditions within the Winshuttle script at a Winshuttle Studio level. At an Enterprise level, the Winshuttle Web form fields can be made mandatory via simple attribute selection (required: true or false). Q: On which technology are the web forms of the demo based? InfoPath, HTML or something else? A: Winshuttle web forms are built using HTML5 and the rules / conditions deployed through the form are built using JavaScript. Note, the author does not need to know either HTML5 or JavaScript as the product features allow the user to build solutions by selection and configuration rather than coding. The Workflow is patented technology and is controlled and administered through Winshuttle Workflow Server. The tight SAP integration is done through the Winshuttle Integration server. Q: Is a SSO connection allowed from Winshuttle to the SAP system? A: Yes Single Sign On is fully supported by Winshuttle. You can access the white paper via this link: http://www.winshuttle.com/assets/white-paper-winshuttle-singlesign-on-sso/ Q: Is Winshuttle only compatible with SAP ECC? Does it have functionality for CRM, SRM, SCM as well? A: The Winshuttle out of the box method of recording scripts via SAP screens for a transaction code can be used to record some transaction codes in CRM and SRM. However, most of the transaction codes in CRM and SRM will require a BAPI to be identified, consumed via Winshuttle Direct and converted to a Script for the end user to use and push data to SAP. See the link for further details: http://www.winshuttle.com/products/direct/ Q: Using the vendor create example in your demonstration, can we collect multiple vendor creation requests from the field, into a batch upload spreadsheet and have one licensed user upload the batch at the end of the week for example? A: Yes Q: What is the latest version of Winshuttle? A: Winshuttle 10.9.
Q: How do we grant Winshuttle access to users? For example, if we have new members in the organisation I assume someone centrally will have to maintain this list of users? How easy is this in large, decentralised organisations? A: If an organization has deployed Winshuttle Studio, to set up a new user, a Winshuttle license would be purchased and this would be allocated to the organization in a cloud based platform. The administrator at the organization would log into the licensing platform and allocate the license to a new user. In Winshuttle Enterprise, the user would require a Winshuttle license, would need to be set up in SharePoint as a user and also Winshuttle Central where they can be allocated a license. Q: With regards to authorisation, how do we handle that within Winshuttle? For example, for approvals, some users will need to have some kind of approver role. A: In Winshuttle Enterprise, users are added to customizable groups in SP e.g. Master Data approver or Finance approver. These groups can then have specific authorizations applied. Q: What is the difference between creating or recording scripts via GUI script or non-batch? A: GUI Scripting and non-batch are two different recording methodologies. GUI Scripting is very powerful but only runs in the foreground. It also captures very detailed information about the SAP screens including scroll bar actions, selections etc. Non batch is the most used recording methodology and 95% of transaction codes can be recorded with it, it is pretty powerful as well and allows both read from SAP, the extended log, validation etc.
