Welcome to Sandvik Hyperion A world class applied materials company. Sandvik history Founded 1862 in Sandviken, Sweden, by Göran Fredrik Göransson. Celebrated 150 years in 2012. The Sandvik name was registered in 1868. The Sandvik Group started to use cemented carbide in the 1940 s. In 1984, as the number of product application areas grew, Sandvik decided to reorganize its cemented carbide business, making this the foundation of Sandvik Hard Materials. Sandvik Hyperion 1,700 employees. Sales presence in more than 50 countries. 13 manufacturing plants and 3 powder supply units world-wide. Production of more than 3,300 tons of WC powder per year. 3

Metal Cutting Sandvik Hyperion Metal Cutting business line provides material solutions for our customers in a variety of industries. Our customers are tool makers for industrial applications such as drilling, milling, turning, threading, gear manufacturing and sawing. Our comprehensive grade selection and application mapping ensure cutting performance and cost efficiency. Tight tolerances, reliable consistency and quality improve the productivity of our customers around the world. Rotary Tool Blanks Rotary tool blanks normally have the shape of long cylinders / rods. This form is the raw material for precision cutting tools. They need to be highly accurate and consistent. Sandvik Hyperion product offer includes precision ground blanks, open tolerance, coolant channel and long rods. 6
Insert Blanks & Strips Modern metal cutting demands that inserts maintain the highest edge security, consistent performance and productivity. Using Sandvik Hyperion blanks ensures that your inserts meet these demanding conditions. Metal Cutting Saw tips Sandvik Hyperion provides solutions for wood and metal sawing applications. Through extensive research and customer testing, Sandvik Hyperion is able to offer a comprehensive program of grades to meet the changing manufacturing and productivity demands in wood and metal sawing. Gear Cutting Applications Sandvik Hyperion gear cutting blanks use grades specifically developed for this industry. These grades are designed to meet demands of both soft and hardened steel machining. 7
A unique material Cemented Carbide is one of the most successful composite engineering materials ever produced. Cemented Carbide s unique combination of strength, hardness and toughness satisfies the most demanding applications. A key feature of the Cemented Carbide is the potential to vary its composition so that the resulting physical and chemical properties ensure maximum resistance to wear, deformation, fracture, corrosion, and oxidation. In addition, the wide variety of shapes and sizes that can be produced using modern powder metallurgical processing offers tremendous scope to design cost-effective solutions to many of the problems of component wear and failure encountered in both the engineering and domestic environment. 8
The material with staying power The most valuable property of Cemented Carbide is that it offers a safer and more dependable solution than any other known material to one of the toughest problems which engineers have to contend with reliability. Reliability is often a problem of wear. Wear resistance is the most outstanding feature of Cemented Carbide. Cemented Carbide can also withstand deformation, impact, heavy load, high pressure, corrosion and high temperature. Cemented Carbide is often the only material that can fulfill these requirements. It has long been a well-known fact that the use of Cemented Carbide provides an optimal solution in the case of tools for metal cutting and rock drilling. Over the years Cemented Carbides have also proven their superiority in a great number of other tooling and engineering applications. Polycrystalline Diamond (PCD) Polycrystalline Cubic Boron Nitride (PCBN) Engineering Materials The most commonly used materials are shown schematically relative to their hardness and toughness properties. Polycrystalline Diamond (PCD) is the hardest of all, followed by Polycrystalline Cubic Boron Nitride (PCBN) and Ceramics (A1203, SiC, SIALON etc). The superhard materials all suffer from lower toughness and poor resistance to sudden fracture, the cemented carbides have a unique combination of high hardness and good toughness within a wide range and thus constitute the most versatile hard materials group for engineering and tooling applications. 9
Research and Development Responsive to market changes and trends Dedicated state of the art laboratories - Characterization, high resolution microscopy - Application laboratory Modeling capabilities Application engineers stationed around the world Annual investment of 2% of total revenue Experience the Difference of working with Sandvik Hyperion Solution provider Productivity improvement Application support 10
Recycling and Sustainability Time to think differently As the demand for raw materials increases, the earth s limited supply decreases. For your business this means increased costs and a harder time to remain competitive in the marketplace. Overcome these challenges and become sustainable. Help reuse the limited supply we have left: recycle your cemented carbide with Sandvik Hyperion. Helps maintain raw material resources Supports environmental efforts ISO 9000, 18000 and 14001 certified 11
