Continuous cooking Superbatch cooking White liquor plant Screening Washing The primary function of the continuous cooking system is to reduce wood chips to pulp by cooking the chips in cooking liquor and thereby dissolving the lignin. This is a continuous process. After this course you should know the design and function of the continuous cooking system. You should also know the basics of the cooking process and the basics of the systems operational strategy. This is a continuous process. After this course you should know the basics of batch cooking, the equipment in the SuperBatch system and the cooking sequence. The main stages when producing white liquor is causticizing and lime kiln. The purpose with the recausticizing plant is to convert green liquor, sodium carbonate (Na2CO3), from the recovery boiler into white liquor, sodium hydroxide (NaOH). The purpose with the lime kiln plant is to convert lime mud to burnt lime. After this course you should know the design and function of the white liquor plant. You should also know the basics of the recausticizing and lime kiln process. The main purpose of pulp screening is to separate impurities from pulp with minimal fiber loss and acceptable cost level. After this course you should know the design and function of the coarse and fine screening system. You should also know the basics of the screening process and the basics of the systems operational strategy. The primary function of washing is to wash away the dissolved substances and chemicals in the pulp for a clean end product. There are washing stages in different positions in the fiberline. The primary function of the washing stage after cooking and oxygen delignification is to recover dissolved wood components and cooking chemicals. While a washing stage in the bleaching area has the purpose of minimizing the carryover to the next bleaching stage, thus reducing the chemical consumption. Washing is also used to facilitate adjustment of temperature, ph and consistency. After this course you should know the design and function of the washing system. 3 Oxygen delignification Bleaching Woodhandling Pulp drying Baling Mechanical pulping The primary function of the oxygen delignification system is to futher reduce the amount of lignin in the pulp. After this course you should know the design and function of the oxygen delignification system. You should also know the basics of the oxygen delignification process and the basics of the systems operational strategy. The bleaching department has several functions besides bleaching the pulp to a stable brightness. Among them are reduce impurities and improve printability. The bleaching department is divided into several bleaching stages. Several bleaching stages can give a much more selective bleaching and save chemicals compared to using a single stage. Between each bleaching stage there is a washing stage. After this course you should know the design and function of the equipment in a bleaching department. You should also know the basics of the bleaching process and basic operational strategy. The purpose of the woodhandling is to produce homogenous chips with minimum pins and fines content. After this course you should know the design and function of the wood handling. You should also know the basics of the woodhandling process and the basics of the systems operational strategy. The pulp drying machine consists of a wet end section and a dryer. The wet end section of the pulp drying machine consists of a headbox, a wire section and a press section. The purpose of the wet end section is to gently and progressively dewater the pulp and form it into a sheet. The dryer uses steam to dry the sheet further. The goal of this course is to get a general understanding of the purpose, function and design of the pulp drying machine. The purpose of the baling line is to make bales of stacks of sheets from the cutter or the flash dryer. The bales are ideal for storage, transport and marketing. After this course you should know the design and function of the baling line. You should also know the purpose of each individual machine in the baling line in addition to how they are designed and how they function. In mechanical pulping fibers are separated with mechanical force leaving the lignin in the pulp, this gives a much higher yield than chemical pulping. This course takes you through the departments found in a mechanical pulping line and describes their function and equipment. It also harnesses the heat resulting from the recovery process and converts it to steam energy. After this course you should know the design and function of the Recovery boiler. You should also know the basics of the process and operation. The primary function of the evaporation plant is to remove water from the black liquor and segregate the additional streams mixed into it. After this course you should know the design and function of the Evaporator system. You should also know the basics of the evaporation process and operation. The primary function of Bubbling Fluidized Bed (BFB) boilers is to generate steam from the combustion of biofuels, waste-derived fuels, and industrial bi-products. The BFB combustion principle is based on the fluidization of a sand bed. The hot bubbling sand and the solid fuel are mixed together in the lower part of the furnace. The high heat capacity of the sand bed ensures fast fuel ignition and absorbs fluctuations in fuel quality. The purpose of this course is to give you knowledge about the design and function of the BFB boiler. You will also understand the basics of the processes involved in bubbling fluidized bed combustion. The primary function of the circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler is to combust fuels such as biomass and coal to generate steam. In a CFB boiler the bed of fuel is suspended with air during the combustion process. This provides more effective chemical reactions and heat transfer. A cyclone is used to separate non-combusted particles from the hot gases generated in the process. These particles are returned to the furnace for recirculation. Hence the name circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler. The purpose of this course is to give you knowledge about the design and function of the CFB boiler. You will also understand the basics of the processes involved in circulating fluidized bed combustion. The Spout Robot operates on the spout deck and its purpose is to clean the frozen smelt in the spouts connecting the recovery boiler and the dissolving tank. After this course you should know the design and function of the Spout Robot. Each area is usually operated as a self contained system, so it is important to know how they influence the other areas. Mill-wide systems will give you an overall understanding of the pulp mill and what main process equipment you can find. The course also describes the plants supplementary systems and which impact they have on the plant. There are the water, effluent and steam systems, the chemical handling of the plant and the treatment of non-condensable gases. All which are typically referred to as Balance of plant. After this course you should understand the overall knowledge of the pulp mill and the basic process relations between different areas of the mill. By water treatment mass factories produces the amount of water required, and of the right quality. During the process different types of water is produced, such as cooling water, different types of process water, make-up water and sometimes even potable water. Since the quality of the raw water varies and each mill has its own requirements, each water treatment is unique. Though, every treatment's purpose is to eliminate or minimize the risk of corrosion or deposits that could lead to damages or conkout. Understand the process and the purpose of water treatment for pulp mills. The course Water treatment for power boilers is divided into five learning. The first three learning will give you an introduction and take you through the different stages in the process of water treatment, and also the steam and condensate parts. The fourth learning object is about the equipment and the last one is additional material, which is about further stages in the water treatment mainly for pulp mills. The main purpose of feed water treatment is to enable the production of the purest possible steam and to prevent deposits and corrosion in steam boilers and associated systems. Understand the process and the purpose of water treatment for power boilers The aim of this course is to: Provide knowledge and warn about the potential and actual risks in the recovery boiler house, concerning respective equipment and different operational conditions, as well as deviating parameters, and how these can be avoided and handled. Inform about how the substances that may arise in the facility must be handled. Inform about procedures and routines required in order to minimize risk. Expand knowledge concerning safe operation.
