The powder lab equipment and inhouse materials know-how in Shanghai enable us to locally develop and optimise powders for your production. 3
The ArcX capabilities Laser cladding Laser cladding is a technique that bonds alloys to the surface with a low degree of dilution. It is particularly suited to use in high-volume automated applications. It is a welding method that enables a metallic bonding with the base material substrate. A high-energy laser beam creates an intense heat input, and thus alloys are bonded to the surface with a low degree of dilution (<5%). Process information Cladding process Dilution: 3~5% Deposition rate: up to 8kg/hour and 1m 2 /hour Deposition thickness: 0.5~2mm Suitable for Fe/Ni/Co base powder Suitable for automation Capacity Positioner Ø 20-350mm L max 4000mm 4000kg Turning table Ø max 350mm - 300kg Equipment 8 kw diode laser with various optical configurations for round and rectangle spots. Ten-axis robot motion system. 8kW Photo: Jarvie Engineering Pty Ltd Laser case: Oil and gas Drill string stabilisers used in oil exploration are protected against erosion, abrasion and at times impact by laser-cladding the raised fins of the stabilizer with Rockit or 40% 1540 + 4590. The laser process is desirable due to the low heat input and the precise control of the deposit s grain structure. Photo: Zhengzou Coal Mining Machinery Group Laser case: Mining Hydraulic cylinders used in mining are clad via laser metal deposition. A variety of alloys for example X-431 Co are used to enhance resistance to corrosion and abrasive wear. 4
Plasma Transferred Arc Plasma Transferred Arc (PTA) is a welding method, thus it enables a metallic bonding with the base material. It is ideal for high unit volume automated applications, such as exhaust valves, this technique offers low base metal dilution and can be used with a wide range of consumables. It can be used both on cast iron and bronze base materials, including bronze containing zinc. Capacity Positioner Ø 40-600mm L max 1000mm 300kg Turning table Ø max 800mm - 600kg Pre-heat treatment Pre-heat treatment can be a determining factor in accomplishing optimised surface properties. This service is also offered at ArcX. Equipment 250A-350A current, integrated oscillator. 0-120 degrees table tilting angle Process information Cladding process Dilution: 5~15% Deposition rate: up to 20kg/hour Suitable for Fe/Ni/Co base alloy powder Suitable for automation PTA Case: Plastics Plastic extrusion screws are hardfaced with 2541 or 1550 to resist abrasion and corrosion at elevated temperatures from the fibreglass-filled feedstock. PTA provides efficient deposition and excellent control of dilution. PTA Case: GET Hardfacing earth-moving bucket teeth via PTA provides ease of control and ability to apply relatively thick deposits in one pass. Rockit or 40% 1559-40 + 60% 4570 is used on the teeth for resistance to abrasion and severe impact. Photo: Zhejiang Jingjin Machinery Co. Ltd 5
Process information Spray & fusing process Mechanical bonding Deposition rate: up to 9kg/hour Suitable for Ni/Co self-fluxing alloys Mostly for cylindrical parts Flame spraying This two-step process (spraying followed by fusing) results in a dense coating and a metallurgical bond. It is easy to automate and can be adapted for the spraying of cylindrical parts. Flame Spray Case: Oil and gas Sucker rod couplings in oil and gas extraction pumps are protected against severe abrasion and corrosion with a coating of 1360 or 74M60 that is applied via flame spray and then a subsequent fusing of the coating. Handling heavy loads Neither size, nor weight, is an issue at our Asian tech centre. The overhead travelling crane trailing the production hall provides the capacity to handle large-size components, weighing up to 5 tonnes. 6 5tonnes Application development By bringing the ArcX and Höganäs networks and innovative customers and partners together, we are able to explore new application areas for surface coating.
Pre-series and first-series production Implementing a new powder or application into your existing production lines may not pose a problem. However, we are committed to delivering quality. After demonstrating proof of concept, we are able to facilitate first-series production at ArcX. Photo: Commersald Impianti SRL Process data generation We have ensured an efficient and reliable way to monitor and automatically collect process data from our processes. Properly applying DoE, Design of experiments, we have a tool to find the optimal process window for various combinations of substrate and coatings. Training Recognising the importance of continuous learning and training, ArcX brings specialists from all over the world to conduct training in applications, processes and powders. Metallography lab With resources such as a scanning electron microscope (SEM), light optical microscope (LOM), EDX x-ray, macro/ micro hardness tester and salt spray equipment for corrosion tests, our metallography lab is well equipped for analyzing your finished product properties and support solving production problems. The lab also contains all the necessary equipment for the preparation of samples prior to microscopic analysis or testing of chemistry and particle size distribution. 7
