Smartfusion in Newcastle will focus on urban-interurban supply chain innovation. Demonstrate and evaluate: An Electric vehicle/2 nd Generation Hybrid Truck Demonstrate technology through existing supply chains; On the Newcastle University City Campus Explore the potential of: Urban consolidation centres (UCC) Telematics systems.

Newcastle University Campus Newcastle University is embracing Coherent Campus Initiative (est. 2008) with aim to improve the spaces between buildings to create a sense of place that is welcoming, with well designed, well linked social spaces Investigation of the application of Delivery Servicing Plans (DSPs) as a freight transport policy. A case study of the Newcastle University Campus; Second largest employer in Newcastle, 5,500 Staff & 20,000 Students (+ Northumbria University & x2) Campus buildings are located in the centre of historic city; therefore in non-car friendly built environment, Existing policy to promote sustainable travel to work. Complex logistics requirement with various materials including stationary, chemical, medical, food Combined analysis of procurement data and freight traffic count

SMARTSET aims to develop and demonstrate: how freight transport in European cities and regions can be made more energy-efficient. Sustainable by a better use of freight terminals. SMARTSET provides examples of good practice; support cities, regions and countries to contribute to the European Union '20-20-20' targets for reduction in carbon dioxide emissions and improvement in energy-efficiency.

NewRail are the Lead Partner for Clean Vehicles in Transport The objective of this is to facilitate the introduction of clean vehicles for last mile distribution and the use of intermodal transports. By distributing with e.g. small electric vehicles, local environment will be drastically improved in terms of greenhouse gas and particle emissions, road safety and congestion. N.B - Investment in the vehicles is NOT included in this project.

Cleaner Vehicles as part of a successful Business Model NewRail are collecting information on; Different types of cleaner vehicles are currently available to be used for urban distribution and services? In what way they can be procured (purchased, leased, rented)? How this can be financed, given local conditions in selected cities? The work will be carried out in: Gothenburg, Newcastle, Berlin, Rome

Before I go 6 EU Projects (Including Smartfusion & Smartset) Exhibition & Poster Sessions Networking Opportunities Expert Micro Lectures: Urban Logistics & Transport Operators Low Emission Vehicle Technologies Policy Initiatives & Business Models Urban Logistics as a commercial opportunity
